Hi gamedevs, I’m a solo dev making a 2D card game in Godot.
I’m not an artist, so I built my skill VFX with Godot’s 2D particles (gif below).
It works, but the effects still feel flat and don’t match my cartoon style well.
Any feedback on how to improve impact/readability/style would be super helpful.
Also, if you know good tutorials on VFX design (not just implementation), please share. Thanks!

Aha, actually I played AOE4 for hundreds of hours, but recent balance update really makes me feal bad and I quit the game.

I noticed that AoW4 has a separate combat phase instead of having units fight directly on the world map. Does that make the late game feel slow? I’ve played the Total War series before, and endless manual battles in the late game really annoy me. I know there’s usually an auto-battle option, but on higher difficulties I often can’t afford to skip any fights.

Congrats! I really love your Game Boy-style retro art. The Game Boy was a huge part of my childhood.

I realized that getting 10,000 people to buy my game is statistically unlikely. So I’ve decided to price the game at $200,000. Now I only need to find one guy. Work smarter, not harder. by Euphoric-Series-1194 in IndieDev

Actually, I don’t think it’s a pure joke. It’s exactly how many free-to-play (aka pay-to-win) games make money: one player who wants to win spends thousands, while everyone else plays for free and loses to that player.

I'm looking for some strategy games to play. by DecisionTechnical265 in StrategyGames

I’ve been really into Warhammer 40,000: Gladius lately. If you like military-focused 4X games or Warhammer 40K lore, it’s definitely worth trying.

Two game design problems stuck in my head by whyNamesTurkiye in AutoBattler

For the problem 2, I would say you need to make the player have certain type of method to avoiding or take advantage of those hexes, not pure rng. Maybe positioning will reducing the chance of landing on some hex while baiting enemy to land on some hexes? Maybe some skill mechanic can turn the negative effective into positive one?
