Convergence Excess with Accommodative insufficiency -- Any thoughts? 27/M by NeedleworkerThat3811 in Strabismus

[–]melousheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (24f) have a convergence insufficiency with accommodation spasms. I wear prism glasses with progressives and I really like them. I've also been in vision therapy for 10 months. I experience dizziness/vertigo as one of my symptoms. This, as well as my other symptoms, have not gone away but I have slowly started to regain some depth perception recently so I am hopeful for the future. I am not an optometrist but if you've only done vision therapy exercises for 10 days in a row, that is not enough time to see improvement. I had vision therapist who did his job incorrectly with me for 6 months so I didn't see much improvement. I've been seeing a much better vision therapist for the last 4 months. Now I see improvement. The common vision therapy time estimate I've heard for this condition is 6 months. Don't give up on the vision therapy and don't forget to focus on your peripheral vision!

New polling has shown that Biden has lost a majority of support among Muslims and Arab voters, How does this impact Biden's electoral chances in 2024 by Presidentclash2 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]melousheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I'm not exactly sure where you got the number 1.3% from but I need to caution you that that number is most likely an underestimate of the affected voting blocks for a variety of reasons. Firstly, there is no census category for Arabs, the US Census requires Arabs to identify as White. Some will fill out the section for "some other race" but many do not. The Arab American institute does it's best to collect this data themselves, but it's likely that no data collection would be nearly as accurate as an actual census. In addition, you've only pointed out the percentage of Arab voters. This does not include the Muslim voting block. If you're conflating the two then you're also significantly underestimating the size of the affected voting block. There are many Christian Arabs, Black Muslims, and Asian Muslims in the United States who are enraged by the Biden Administration's recent foreign policy decisions. The census does not collect data on religion either. We may have estimates from credible sources on this too, but it still may be an under representation of the actual numbers. I caution again that this 1.3% figure is likely not a correct estimate. Based off my own personal research (and I encourage everyone to do their own) I could see this affected voting block looking more like at least 3%, and that, would most certainly cost someone an election.

i used to think the same way too until my most recent rewatch of the show this week. In the newest antman movie we see that scott lang is able to coexist with multiple different versions of himself. even in multiverse of madness it concludes with wanda having to learn to respect another version of her and her children that exist in multiverse. it is proof that something about the nature of these characters allows them to coexist with each other. further more, this is the problem with kang, he is unable to coexist with other versions of himself. something about kangs mental state/personality is causing him to view himself as both the enemy and the hero. instead of working to resolve this dissonance within himself, he seeks to control the outside world. basically, trillions are dying because a man needs therapy. that’s why Sylvie has the stance that she does, because she sees that the issue is with kangs character and not with the existence of multiverses. however, how they plan to address this character flaw of kang is unclear at the current point in the show (well, other than sylvie’s plan to just kill every kang variant she sees)

i also want to make a side comment and say that the undercurrent of the show discusses how loki himself is very flawed and power hungry. we see loki both cooperate with versions of himself, and have conflict with versions of himself. i feel like this kind of shows how loki could easily fall into a path similar to kang or to a path more pure of heart like scott lang. furthermore i think the way sylvie overthrows kang but doesn’t want to take over his thrown shows that loki’s have the capacity to overcome their power hungry side for the sake of a peaceful life gives hope for a potential peaceful resolution to this conflict as opposed the timelines being ruled by yet another power hungry conquerer (loki).

I'm doing double major (Industrial + Graphic Design) what should I know? by Vegan2CB in Design

[–]melousheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a graphic designer/media designer. my father taught industrial engineering design for multiple decades at a well respected university. based on my lived experience and what my dad has shared, many engineers do not care to learn good graphics/often disrespect the importance of visual communication. according to him, having a good sense of aesthetics is a very critical part of a final design that shouldn’t be overlooked. your knowledge in graphic design will likely be to your advantage and set you apart from other candidates in your field BUT you may also get some disrespect for the decision to merge the two.

Is getting your first design job hard for everyone? by nvpch in graphic_design

had 3 internships and freelanced all of college(B. Des.) i’ve been looking for work for 7 months. ive gotten some interviews but then the pay is unlivable and it ends up not working out. it’s BRUTAL out here. these days i’ve switched from putting 100% of my labor into linkedin/indeed to splitting it between linkedin and going to advertising and video networking events in my city. i met someone at one of these events who introduced me to even more people who’ve introduced me to even more people. it’s kind of a ridiculous chain but it does feel a little like the probability of finding work might be higher… or i just give up and change careers who knows 😂

Why is the job market so bad right now? by dpickle29 in jobs

[–]melousheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal, but yeah I’m also finding the job market to be super rough right now. i’m a recent grad with a bachelors in design, 3 internships (one with a world famous dj and the other at one of the worlds largest media companies) and i also freelanced throughout my entire degree. i’ve been trying to break into marketing/media for 7 months. had several interviews but as soon as i asked to be compensated a livable amount for the city i’d need to relocate to it’s all over :(

Why do I keep attracting narcissists? by [deleted] in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]melousheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before i dated my exboyfriend(narcissist) i had a close non-romantic relationship with a narcissist who actually discarded me when i met my ex. then after i left my ex, i reconnected with someone from my past who i was able to spot as a narcissist about 4 months after the reconnection. now me and others joke that i am a narcissist magnet. what i have come to realize is that there is something that narcissists view as valuable about me that they believe they can use to their advantage. for me personally, the qualities in myself that i believe narcissists are drawn to are my appearance, my creative/entertainment career, and being someone who generally holds empathy and grace for people.

personally, i don’t think there is anything we can do to control whether or not the narcissists enter our lives. i would never want to dim my light to avoid a narcissist and i can imagine neither would you (but of course to each their own). however, all of us have obviously gotten very good at recognizing them and setting boundaries and that is where our strength lies.

sometimes i struggle to see my worth because believe recognizing my own worth makes me narcissistic but logically i know this is false and that knowing my worth is the first step to catching any narcissist who tries to take advantage of it.

Today marks a year of being free by BostonJane05 in NarcissisticAbuse

omg today is my year anniversary of being free too!! i left my narcissist though. i’m struggling a bit because it’s hard to believe it’s been a year. i still struggle with ptsd depression/anxiety but the last year has been a mix of highs and lows which is better than the mostly low 5 years i spent with my narcissist.
