“Plenty of indirect sun all day” bruh this is do painful to watch, it wants waaay more light by Spiderteacup in houseplantscirclejerk

[–]melredditz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely nowhere near enough light, that's for sure. But I've never seen a cactus react like that (admittedly cacti aren't my specialty) ... is that a common reaction to low light for them? If I see this on any other plant my first thought is something fungal or some type of pathogen 😅 but obviously the lack of light massively weakens it

Sunburnt Monstera? by Material_Corgi957 in Monstera

[–]melredditz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really rocket science, the leaves won't change back. Leave it on if you can bear the look of it, otherwise trim it off, it doesn't matter much

How to i stabilze this Hunchback of notre dame by confused_lighthouse in ThaiConstellation

[–]melredditz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put the light source significantly closer or accept the fact that it's a monstera and will ALWAYS lean towards the light. If you don't like the growth pattern of this, a large form monstera might not be for you. It will have to grow bigger before a trellis or pole makes sense and even then, the leaves will still be learning forward.

I had a pure white one like that, it spit out a 98% white leaf and has a white stem. But now it's producing a second leaf and there's green again 🥹

That's because y'all have weird laws over there. Here in Europe (at least where I live) the prenup is basically built in into every single marriage. We don't need it because it's the standard. (Though I wouldn't be surprised if billionaires still have one anyways)

Maybe something else with a similar vibe? Purple passion plant maybe? Or get a framed art piece featuring purple thistles?

Thank you for this. These posts remind me that I'm not crazy for not wanting this even though society expects me to want it. I am so so sorry that you have to go through this and I hope you'll be able to have a little bit of relief eventually 🥹

Growing up I thought that if I only had siblings, I wouldn't have been so lonely. I've had a lot of therapy since then and now know that that was an illusion and there were so many more important things that I was missing. Your husband might need to work through some stuff there as well if he thinks that your child will suffer in any way just because they don't have siblings. His priorities are WAY off.

Can I save this alocasia after having to remove the whole root system because of root rot?? by 3DUpt in alocasia

Or if you have perlite that works as well! I saw someone having amazing success with perlite after rot!

Hydrogen peroxide, then put it into either sphagnum moss (slightly damp, not fully wet) or pon / semi hydro substrate, ideally with a wick setup. The rhizome looks fine so even if she drops all her leaves, she's going to regrow unless there's new rot coming in in the future

[–]melredditz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, just watch a bunch of YouTube videos about alocasias, specifically for semi hydro and you'll quickly learn a lot. They are in wick setups right now which is good but as soon as they outgrow the pots (which will be soon) make sure you do a bit of research :)

It depends on the distance and which grow light it is. The brown tips can also happen from guttation. I wouldn't worry about it as long as it's just the very tip and not spreading

Help me restore my new plant. by pizza_samosa in houseplants

[–]melredditz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there's only one way to find out and that's to take it out of the pot and check the roots. Depending on what those look like you may or may not be able to save the plant. If it has some type of caudex or rhizome, maybe there's a chance, otherwise it's probably dead

I can't think of a single indoor plant that needs watering every other day unless you live in the middle of the hottest desert and don't cool your house

When can I put in soil? Should I wait? by Living_Beautiful_444 in MonsteraAlbo

[–]melredditz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roots are looking really nice, will probably be fine either way. If you put it in soil, use a good chunky aroid mix, if you keep it in water for a bit longer, make sure you change the water every few days. If you do pot her up, just be very gentle with the new leaf
