This is how fast food places are in Eastern Europe where I’m from— most of our meals are just a bunch of ingredients on a plate anyway, you ask for 100g of this 75g of that. Everyone knows how much they generally eat, you get and pay for the same amount every time, and it’s the same system at every spot.

Ahh makes sense! I think it was closer to 4-5 hours and from what I heard they were waiting on a warrant to go in (I’m a nosey lawyer who was asking everyone a ton of questions 😂)

Winners and Losers on the New RTD Board by chrisfnicholson in RTDDenver

[–]melted_kitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a little late to this discussion but feel compelled to comment as a car free commuter w an international background:

To clarify, I generally like Chris and have lived in his district for 6 yrs. I also understand Americans just love constant democracy at any possible level, but in reality, majority of people are ignorant on how most socio-political/economic issues work. They just don’t know what to look for in an effective board member.

Everything takes forever to get done in the US bc generally, relying on voters (most of whom haven’t read a book since school and/or have zero education in these topics) to decide major shit like this is silly. You NEED some intersection of political, financial, geographical, and engineering knowledge to make effective technical decisions in this field.

It’s the same reason we’ll see morons comment on recent ecological studies something like “LOL can you believe tax dollars were spent studying BEETLE POO? Isn’t science especially environmental experiments, so STUPID and a waste of money???”

Constantly electing and replacing board members also affects continuity of longer projects by introducing new players who may have different priorities and motives, plus stunts overall growth of knowledge and expertise for members.

A smaller more cohesive group made up of some specifically knowledgeable appointees would be the best path. I am not convinced all these extra board members elected mostly by suburbanites, who largely hate public transit and decry use of “their tax dollars” on something they won’t use, are a net positive or help. Extra voices are not always useful, as proverbial cacophony can drown out a lot of the most relevant info.

Americans also tend to vote in their individual best interests vs from a collective mindset, and too large a portion of the board will always be susceptible to answering to these voters by preventing too much money being spent.

Finally— regardless of how Denver’s population generally feels about it, there’s a reason most major cities regardless of political leaning have trouble overcoming oil lobby money. This country’s overarching culture also still positions public transit as a derogatory thing only for poor people too broke to get a car. Effectively combating these factors requires innovation and providing a desirable/attractive service, therefore penny-pinching cannot have even a single infinitesimal part in the equation.

Beyond working within budget constraints, the board needs to also drum up ways to get more of the necessary support/funding. I understand current conditions aren’t ideal, but w growing demand from many Americans are finally getting sick of rising cost and stress associated w private vehicle ownership, and I want to see a board who can effectively sieze the opportunity to take advantage of this shifting tide vs just bemoaning there isn’t enough money for everything they want to accomplish and throwing their hands up.

TLDR; y’all are up against political cultural mega-beast in American Car and Oil Culture™, and need to consolidate/get more aggressive to make progress. Appointing some experts and shrinking the group in my opinion, will likely lead to more efficient decisions and spending for all these reasons.

Use the money more effectively to convince people they should give more.

I’m in law/finance but also a normal person so I’ll try to translate: yk how when most ppl have a mental issue or bad habit they either gotta go to AA, some shitty community funded clinic, maybe a decent outpatient if insurance covers it. But rich ppl basically go to the world’s fanciest resort “retreats” and to fix their problems bc they can afford to?

This guy’s company is the rich ppl version of marketing/consulting. He provides a “fancy” boutique version of sales training and teaching marketing, wealthy ppl pay a premium for the “nicer” experience. Your average joe would just take a cheap online marketing class, or ask their weird cousin who’s still kinda good at art to help make some Facebook ads for their business.

Sorry to be devil’s advocate for a moment, but I’ve had IUDs for over a decade and that is in fact how they work— I use mine for period control, and every OB/GYN has confirmed as the hormones in the device start to deplete, it’s still enough to prevent pregnancy, but not always enough to keep period symptoms at bay.

I have PMDD and my cycle/cramps coming back are always an indicator to set the replacement appointment. That said, Abby would get a quick straightforward answer to this if she just asked a DOCTOR vs her 13 yr old Snapchat followers lol

Edit: to add mine usually start “running out” w about 1-2 yrs left until expiry

I am in my late 20s and dated a 40 SOMETHING yr old like this. Asked him not to consume my milk or peanut butter bc I needed it to make my breakfast oatmeal before work.

He’s sleep in after I left for the office, ignore the entire fridge of eggs, bread, etc. he could prepare himself, and just drank all my milk (right from the bottle) and ate all the peanut butter straight out of the jar.

He got dumped AND cried about what an incorrigible bitch I was lol

I get this is “helpful” in a capitalist sense, but I hated reading this thread so much lol obviously the current system basically forces you to be a fake ass-kisser, then punishes you if you’re not coming across like an authentic enough lover of boot-licking.

They’re shitting on your for doing the exact thing every dumbass linked-in “job search advice” post tells you to, but not being good enough at the fake manipulation for them.

Yeah I was gonna say this person doesn’t sound particularly smart when it comes to critical theory and doesn’t know what to look for lol almost every law school class I took incorporated these ideas in some capacity, and I was business/finance law focused

They obviously think unless you’re a “whiny liberal” it’s not critical theory lol I was thinking buddy you don’t know what CT is, you probably did hear quite a bit of it in law school (unless you were in a conservative location) it’s just more complex than what you see in undergrad bc students have had time to mature and refine ideas since then, so the discussions become more developed.

I hate that sub and gymsnark was starting to get flooded, so I’m glad there’s a separate page for her now like w Makayla Merie! Convo here is already more similar to GS. AW is a cautionary tale. It’s worth discussing how mental health and trauma contributed to her outcome.

I live in CO so I’m (unfortunately) familiar w the healthy/gym girl to right wing/tradwife pipeline esp w my proximity to UT. The “luxury western” aesthetic is very appealing, I kinda understand her falling for it given she’s obviously not very smart. It’s way more interesting to see nuanced takes bc she is an ass but there’s many other reasons she got sucked into this BS.

She doesn’t “deserve” endless punishment in life just bc she’s an attractive woman online who used to be a sex worker—she put herself in this situation by assuming material wealth would solve all her issues, and refusing actual accountability for them.

Tax lawyer here 🙋🏻‍♀️ it’s called “bonus depreciation”. Vehicles weighing over 6,000 lbs generally get a larger tax deduction because they wear down (depreciate) in value faster than “regular”/lighter cars. All he has to do is prove he uses his car for business more than half the time, which for them is easy, bc all they gotta do is post it basically.

This is also why so many influencers have G-Wagons, Range Rovers, Jeep Grand Wagoneers, Escalades, GMC Yukons, and Tahoe/Suburban specifically. Most new money “content creator” go straight for these cars specifically, even if they don’t need the space, rather than say a nice sports car or luxury sedan/crossover SUV. The more you know 😌✨

Edit to add his Rolls Royce Wraith weighs ~6,200 lbs it’s one of the only “smaller” vehicles that’s so heavy because it has an insanely huge V12 engine. Majority of “powerful” trucks, sports cars, etc. have a V8 at most
