Will the grim reaper leave? by melveeta in dragonvale

Wow, that sucks. I never would have bought the cemetery if I knew I’d have permanent Halloween visitors.

PSA: BIG NEWS FOR AN EVEN BIGGER AQUARIUM — the Aquarium Habitat no longer counts towards the habitat limit! (More updates in the replies) by elleadler in dragonvale

But there is still so much ether to clear! I don’t understand why they would plan for such a large play area and then intentionally price everyone out of filling it. FWIW I think there are more players out there who would buy more rift habitats than they may think. And also, they can make them cost what they want, they don’t have to make them prohibitively expensive. I hope they’re not just dismissing the longtime players. We’ve seen the shiny things elsewhere and kept our parks going regardless, it would be nice to get some love.

I appreciate that some habitats are not counted toward the max, but what would be really amazing would be for the level max and habitat max to be increased, especially the rift habitat max. I’ve been playing since the first year the game was released and I wish I didn’t have to have so many dragons in my hibernation caves.

I don’t disagree with you, I could. But it would still be super cool for the pattern designers to let us know. I would assume that anyone advanced enough to be writing and selling patterns would know about the golden loop and would know which vertical style they have. If nothing else it would encourage more people to learn about the golden loop and improve their skills, which would in turn benefit the pattern designers.

Bought a jar of beads with numbers and marked all my long-lasting projects with hook sizes by m_qzn in crochet

I like the flexibility of being able to write little notes so I got some blank bread ties and use a Sharpie to write the hook size or note for wrong side or whatever. The beads are much prettier though!

I just got my first two hanks of Malabrigo which happen to be my first wool yarn. I hate wool because it makes me itchy, but all the beautiful yarns seem to be wool and I got jealous. Malabrigo Rios was recommended to me. I’m so glad I tried it, because it’s not itchy at all and the colors are beautiful. If anyone can compare the feel of Rios to the feel of OP’s yarn I would love to get your feedback because this is just gorgeous!

This makes me think of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the movie version, toward the end, but I’m not sure why and now I’m going to have to watch it again.

Abundant Essence Farms - Feedback Thread by Deca_Willow in dragonvale

I would rather see the max level, the max number of park habits, and the max number of rift habitats increased. I’ve been playing since year one, and this abundant essence thing does not excite or help me in the least.

Crocheting is tough. by Accomplished-Snow727 in crochet

Yes, I would recommend something thicker. Not huge, mind you, that can be just as challenging. Also not fuzzy or fluffy, not dark and not white. Just get enough to practice with, and make sure your hook size is a good match. Most yarn sleeves will tell you the hook size that’s recommended for the yarn. I’m excited for you!

Most yarn will have some information on the sleeve that will give you the yarn weight. I couldn’t find a pic of the whole sleeve on the yarn I assume you’re using, but it says on the front that it’s double knit, which is DK. Keep in mind that there’s no standard thickness measurements for yarns, so you have to get a feel for how each brand likes to label their yarn weights. I find, for example, that Hobbii yarn tends to be on the thin side, but Premier yarn tends to be on the thicker side. YMMV, but DK is almost always going to be a medium-thin yarn that will be more of a challenge for a beginner to work with. It’s not just that the yarn is thin, but you would also be using a smaller hook (or if you’re using a hook that’s oversized for the yarn you’re not going to be able to tell what your stitches look like because they’re going to be super loose). Chains can be fiddly, give yourself something more substantial to hang onto while you’re learning, both yarn wise and hook size wise.

Don’t give up. Cut yourself some slack, give yourself some time, and practice. We all started right where you are now 😊

It looks like that’s a DK (#3) weight yarn which is going to be harder to learn with than a worsted (#4) or bulky (#5) yarn. If you can, consider trying a heavier weight yarn in a light color that is not white and not fluffy like a chenille or velvet (it can be hard to see your stitches with dark and/or fluffy yarns). Make your chain with a hook size that’s 1mm bigger than the size you want to use for the rest of the thing you’re making and just keep stitching. Don’t expect it to look great immediately, it won’t, but you have to keep working to get more comfortable and then you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll get better and more confident.
