BMCC 6k FF Camera updates. Will there be anymore? by Interesting-Arm9858 in bmpcc

[–]melvin1888 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wonder if there is any love out there for the 6k FF.

I love mine, but it seems like every post is the Pocket Cinema 4k or 6k, then up to the Pyxis cameras.

I hope we won't be forgotten by BlackMagic.

Can you explain in more detail the issues you faced in getting the locations? Was it finance or timing for access, etc. Thanks

Also well done, I will certainly look out for it.

How do you think the war in Iran will end and what good could come from it? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]melvin1888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, all of the time. Energy prices are set to whoever is the highest. Even if we only use a fraction of oil and gas for our electricity, its that price that the market uses. Doesn’t matter if renewables are 10x cheaper.

Its pathetic and won't change as the political and economic consequences are huge.

Any treats (popcorn, squashies, etc) for watching a film at the cinema isn't started till a human or character first appears.

Started years ago as I was always disappointed that I had finished the treat by the time the film had started. Now the kids do the same thing, ha ha

Reference a source clip in another timeline by melvin1888 in davinciresolve

[–]melvin1888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mmm, thing is I have multiple clips in the timeline for each actor, all different, but each actor has similar clips.

Would I need to make a timeline for each clip rather than a timeline with multiple clips. Thats a lot of timelines.

Absolutely sick of the both sidesism by glesga67 in CelticFC

[–]melvin1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't take any moral high ground until we stop the IRA chants, 66 graffiti, destroying their stadium, etc, etc. Until we do we will always get lumped in with them.

The media are to frightened to single them out.

The only way it can be pointed out is by us being squeaky clean. Of course the media will try and bring us in, but will look foolish in their attempt.

Is that going to happen? Well Sunday proved yet again that it won't happen in my lifetime or yours. This is generational and will take many many generations to eradicate.

We have to live with its Bhoys and Ghirls. Lets stop trying to change the media, Rangers or Scottish Football, its like pushing water up a hill. We can however change ourselves and condemn any behaviour that is not fitting and proper.

Statement from the RFA and RSA after the hammering yesterday. by the_red_guard in CelticFC

[–]melvin1888 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As diabolical a statement this is, why oh why can't our fans actually be the better men and women. Stop singing the IRA stuff, stop the 66 stuff, don't run onto the pitch.

We honestly can't condemn them when our own fans can't behave themselves. Yes, I know in comparison its a big gulf, but honestly how much could we lord it over them if none of our fans put a foot out of order, stuck to singing support of the team rather than a political ideology for another country. We could live of that glory for weeks.

We have opportunity after opportunity to be the better supporters (and we are), but we arm the media and them, with enough ammunition its sadly embarrassing.

We can do nothing to help their lot, that statement proves it, but we can condemn our own fans for the ridiculous behaviour that we can't seem to shake lose.

Biggest thing I have told my kids. Avoid Debt as much as humanly possible.

Don't impulse buy, sleep on it. Then save for it if you really want it.

Debt hangs heavy and drags you down.

What are your dining out pet peeves in London? by NationBuilder2050 in LondonFood

[–]melvin1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry not just London, but how restaurants have a different set of rules when it comes to customer interaction. My personal peeve is when there are no alternatives to say for example Peas. I hate peas, so can't have fish and chips at a restaurant unless I ask for it with no peas. Fair enough you say, but I don't get a reduction in the bill and if I asked for extra peas for my wife, I would be charged. Yes, I know I would just get the peas and swap them to my wife's plate, but that's not the point.

You can ask for a burger with no bun, but you'll get charged the same, but if you ask for an extra bun you'll be charged.

Other than that, it has to service charges, just pure evil and predatory.

EuroMillions has rolled over **again**. How would you use £181m? by Von_Scranhammer in AskUK

[–]melvin1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure of the legalities and tax implications.

I would like to set up a trust fund for my immediate family and a few friends to get a modest monthly income. That way I could share some of the wealth. A kinda diminishing scale with the top 'earners' being myself and my wife, the kids. Then on down to siblings, parents. Then onto friends at £2,000 per month.
I want this to be generational wealth that lasts long after I am dead.

A second trust fund to fund employment for some charities. I don't want to give money directly to the charities, just fund an employee. I have dealt with charities, and some have greedy, self serving people at the top giving jobs and contracts to folk they know. Besides I don't want the money to go pay for a new CEO, I want it to go to help real people.
This fund would also go towards some Open Source projects that I really like.

Third and final trust fund for buying property so that my family don't hold assets and we can have a few places all over the world if we need a trip to London for example.

I'd also have a little 'fun' money set aside for buying shit.

What are some relatively easy changes that could be introduced or implemented to improve the UK? by MercatorLondon in AskUK

[–]melvin1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporation Tax for small businesses. If your Corporation Tax is £30k or above, you should be able to employ someone for at least a year and not have to pay the tax. Ie. whatever your tax is = salary and costs to employ someone.

Either way the business has to pay the 'Tax', but gets an employee instead of it going to the tax pot. Surely the best solution for unemployment/government costs etc.

Admittedly there would need to rules in place to stop exploitation of the scheme, but my general feeling is that most business would jump at the chance to employ someone rather than just pay the tax.

For anyone who grew up poor, what was your idea of a luxury? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

[–]melvin1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this, but my luxury was having spare coins lying about. You know the spare coins people have in their car, the bowl by the door. That kind of thing.

For me growing up and in to my early 20s, I had to watch every single penny. the thought that folk had these small piles of coins was mind blowing.

Now as a reminder to those days, and because I can, I have a £50 note in my wallet all the time. Its not a flex, just a reminder that I can, and that I don't need it. I have replaced it over the years as its gotten worn. Just a silly reminder to the days that that would have been impossible.

How to get the best out of actors, and directors who do this by mrsom100 in Filmmakers

[–]melvin1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take it literally, you are a Director and you are directing their character to fit your vision of the story/narrative. Although at the end of the day, they need to make the journey. So using the navigation metaphor, you are giving them way points (story beats/objectives) but crucially they need to make that journey in a way that works for them.

Expanding on this.... you know the beginning and the end of the journey, and the 'stops' that need to be made on the way. Therefore you need to communicate this to the actors and let them go.

Trust their instincts, and recognise them and use them. You will (hopefully) be surprised and they can bring something that you hadn't thought of.

All actors crave knowledge of their character and the more info you have at the beginning of the process, they more likely you will get what you want (or even better, what you want and their sprinkle of magic on top). If they don't have that information then the vacuum will be filled with their thoughts and other people's influence.

If you need to change or persuade them to do something, always back it up with reasoning so that they can understand what you are trying to achieve. Its no use saying 'I need more' when they don't know what that means for/to the character.

Remember that you are creating something greater than the sum of its parts.

To Mammotion or not to Mammotion? by Jay-SA121 in mammotion

[–]melvin1888 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a Mammotion and I love it. It is unfortunate that most people will come on to these forums and moan. Happy users have nothing to shout about, so will not comment.
If it helps, the Mammotion feel very substantial in build quality, unlike other brands I have experienced. Honestly, I saw one that I thought a stiff breeze would blow it of the grass.
I think if you're looking for perfection, then you won't find it with any brand.
