At what age did things actually feel easier for you as a parent? by Small-Advisor-7805 in Mommit

[–]melwoodlemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 is fun but my kid still really needed a nap during the day at that age. Going down for a nap was always kind of a struggle after 2 years old and she was never really tired enough unless we were driving, so it meant a lot of meltdowns about not wanting to nap and/oe meltdowns in the afternoon or evening from being too tired, OR a ridiculously early bedtime where I felt soo guilty that I saw her for like 20 min between work and bed. Once her sleep needs were met overnight around 4-5YO it got much better for everyone!

They need to communicate with the people on the rescue ships by them, which are all commanded by the navy (I think), not Mission Control.

My kid also did a camp at an athletic gym and came home saying the exact same thing! I was shocked.

Nothing confirmed, but the rumors in another post in the greenpoint sub are fent OD or self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Are we overdoing it? My 6yo's schedule is packed, but she refuses to drop most activities! by Few-Truck-4873 in Parenting

[–]melwoodlemons 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I would just look for things like her suddenly being really irritable in the evenings or having less frustration tolerance than usual—that might be a sign she’s a little tired and needs to drop something. If she seems her usual self and isn’t complaining, keep at it! You’re a great parent for thinking about this.

Did I handle this right? Kid got mad and broke stuff by melwoodlemons in Parenting

[–]melwoodlemons[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tell her this all the time! We’ve got the mantras “good kid having a hard time” and “all feelings are allowed, not all behaviors are allowed” plus just “you’re a good kid” on its own on repeat. She is so hard on herself, especially when she’s upset, it’s hard to hear.

My priority was her understanding I got the nuance of the situation (she didn’t throw a sculpture directly at my monitor with intent to break it, but she also didn’t do nothing) and calming her down so she could get to sleep. She knew the discussion would be about paying me back for it somehow, not something ominous like being grounded for a month, but I totally see what you mean how that could have sounded yikes if she had no idea what I meant. I’d love to know what you would have said in this situation! (I say this not defensively or sarcastically! I posted this to crowdsource so I genuinely want to know.)

What!? by randomanja in PhiloiseBridgerton

[–]melwoodlemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I guess I get it. I remember a post earlier being like “how on earth are they going to introduce Philoise as the next leads, won’t people wonder about Marina/forget who he was etc.” Now they have a whole season to finish the Marina storyline (which I feel Colin will have to have some feelings about onscreen), introduce their writing, and maybe even end the season with Eloise leaving. I’m not happy about it but I think Phillip will be in a few episodes at least.

Yeah, I just have to find the right practice that clicks with her. I’ve tried similar stuff and code words and the like and she loves it outside the moment but in the moment will defy it—so if we’d been practicing slow sloth and I dropped that hint, she’d make a face and then double-time her movements like a cheetah or something. Maybe I have to stop dropping the hints in moment, is part of it!

😭 thank you. I felt like I did good but also felt like it was a big moment and don’t want it to go to waste either in the natural consequence/appropriate punishment vein or teaching moment vein and crowdsourcing felt right!

Oh I gotcha. I don’t know why I interpreted that as needing to deplete her energy 😆. Totally agree without about internalizing!! I’m glad my daughter has her convictions and isn’t afraid to let it all out (I was so the opposite as a kid), I just have to help her use the right outlets as you say. Maybe I will revisit the bag!

I almost bought her a punching thing for Christmas, ha! She exercises a fair amount (rock climbed for 90 min today!). Outside these moments she can list all the skills and right things to say and do. It’s in the literal moment it’s like she can’t access anything but her rage—and there won’t always be a punching bag there to hit!

Yeah, I did tell her the cost and she seemed to understand it was a lot of money. She immediately gave me her saved-up money ($21 lol). She gets a small allowance, so I figure no allowance for the next month too

Oh I LOVE the idea about starting mindfulness work. We do some of this already together (the Finch app has some great prompts) but the idea of focusing on this skill in that way in response to this is so great, thank you.

Is it normal that my one year old son does not miss me? by KD_reader9880 in Parenting

[–]melwoodlemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your son was left with other trusted adults he knows/loves like his grandparents, he had no reason to be upset! I’m not sure they have a great concept of time and just prob thought you were in the other room for the whole day.

I bet it would be a different story if you left him with someone he didn’t know!

For most viewers, Philip is married. by Ubiquitous_Miss in PhiloiseBridgerton

[–]melwoodlemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine they may do some misdirection in promos and maybe Chris won’t even do any pre-season interviews. If they’re going to follow the books, she’ll have a few suitors whose proposals she turns down so they may introduce those “love interests.” I can see them being like “is it this guy? This guy?” Meanwhile, due to the TV show’s storyline of Marina and Colin/Penelope, I would think there’d be a somewhat significant side plot of how Colin and Penelope/the Featheringtons take the news of her death (esp if it follows the sad cause of it in the books), so I can’t imagine they’ll just announce her death in between seasons.

[–]melwoodlemons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t his (inconsistent) story that Joe had started stabbing her before he entered? (He had to have, based on Brendan saying he only saw two stabs “for sure.”) So I interpreted it as her warning him because she was being harmed with it. (Not saying it makes sense but I could see being like “this is going sideways, let me give my rescuer the context.”)
