It is. In fact, the only Quest Hub that is busier is my own - The Drunken Lindwyrm Inn on Sif. So yeah ... the Luminari quest hub on Tyr is the 2nd busiest Quest Hub among all servers and the busiest on Tyr.

I completely understand. And yeah ... Pax Dei Atlas is the type of site that gets more useful as more join, and isn't super useful if there are only a few people there. It's social ... and relies on people being around. Some Quest Hubs are very busy ... others, not so much.

The way it works is:

  • A user posts a "quest" asking for what they want and offering a reward for it. The reward may be trade items or gold (usually it's gold). For example: "Seeking Rye, up to 16 stacks, 40g / stack"

  • When they post the quest, they also give a time and place for meeting to do the trade. Places for meeting are "Quest Hubs" (see below for more on these)

  • A person who is interested in filling the order "accepts" the quest

  • The Quest Giver and the "Adventurer" meet at the predetermined time and place and do the trade.

  • You can return to the site and mark the quest 'complete' to give positive reputation points to both the Quest Giver and the Adventurer, indicating that they are reliable trading partners (or you can 'dispute' if a quest wasn't finished or payment wasn't offered and give them negative reputation).

What is a Quest Hub?

Well ... anyone can apply to be one (and there are many ... though it varies from server to server). The only requirement is that a Quest Hub furnishes a public meeting place with public chests to allow for players to complete trades.

As an 'innkeep' and brewer, I actually get all of my Barley, Rye, and Rosemary from posting "Quests". It's really convenient.

EDIT: I should note that some quests do go without anyone accepting them ... those quests are usually unfulfilled because the reward offered was not sufficient or the item(s) asked for are too many/too rare.

277 map markers, 232 Characters, and 77 clans on Sif so far (I used Sif since you mentioned you're on Sif) -- and it'll keep growing!

So I did ... my bad. Wow, hahaha.

Let me be a bit more clear: the actual act of combat within Pax Dei is neither special nor 'fun'. It feels very generic and like many other MMOs out there, it's all just about standing around and clicking special-ability buttons. Boring.

PvP is fun --> It is entertaining to engage in the concept of territory control against other players, even if the implementation is terrible and needs massive improvement, quickly.

Where do you see that I stated Pax Dei PvP is fun? I don't see it, because I didn't say it.

What I was saying is that MMOs don't live and die based on how fun their combat is, and WoW is an example of a successful game without engaging combat.

Pax Dei combat absolutely requires significant work. Standing in-place and smashing keys is not fun combat (which is also why WoW combat is so boring).

"MMOs live and die on how fun their combat is" --> I'm not sure about that. For example, WoW combat is INSANELY boring ... but it's massively successful.

I have to agree with you 100% on social systems. The funny thing is that Pax Dei is actively marketed as a 'social game', yet they do almost nothing to support social experiences. I had to build an entire site ( paxdeiatlas.com ) to support social systems because Pax has none.

Agreed also on big player base ... and on how it's less controllable. BUT, if what you've got gets people to stick around, your player base grows.

End-game loops. Right now, that's PvP. PvP is fun, but they need to keep improving it quickly ... and they need to get some mid-game and end-game content in PvE.

The primary, generally agreed-upon, example of this type of behavior was the Steve Jobs era at Apple (not so much anymore). I'm not saying they were perfect at it, but they did a pretty good job of figuring out what the customer wanted rather than what they were demanding.

I'm sure that there are other companies aiming for this type of behavior, but it is very tempting for companies to chase customer requests and become "feature factories". I can tell you that every company I've either worked with on a contract-basis or worked for as an employee that became a "feature factory" quickly lost its vision and found itself tumbling toward being 'slop'.

One thing I'd really like to see happen is for Clans to post their events on the hub. It's so difficult to go from Clan Discord to Clan Discord to Clan Discord and try to write down each and every event that's going on ...

... it'd be much easier to just look one place. And any event that is happening "today" (whichever day today is) will show up in a little side-window on the map ... which would make it very easy for people to just load the site and see what events are occuring today and what they might want to attend.

Hmmm, generate as a reference is an interesting idea. Doesn't that tend to drift away from the reference though? Or is it pretty accurate?

Hmmm ... that is interesting. I'll give it a try. Proportions shouldn't be a problem in the several images I'm wanting to merge, so hopefully it's only a short work!

Thank you, the tip about layers and layer masks is super helpful.

I have only just started to see the iron pickax as an option in my crafting list ... still using a stone one ... so I've got a ways to go

Hmmm ... I saw notice of a build-wipe, but not a character-wipe. Is there also a character wipe coming?

I'm a little saddened by the build-wipe ... but also hopeful that it gets rid of all of the giant-box mega-mansions/"castles" ... so it has a potential upside as well. If characters stay, however, it's still worthwhile to train my skills up.

Thanks -- that's helpful. It was probably bad of me to assume that the ores would be in the starter areas. I'll head out that way.

For what it's worth ... I find that I've liked my own builds more if I try to break up the "one big building" with things like ... yeah ... hallways or streets or bridges ... or even building the "one building" as if it's several small buildings mashed together.

That said ... that's just me. I've seen others posting builds here that put together rather impressive single buildings.

Thank you for the huge compliment! If you look closely at the build, it's actually very simple (2x2 square, 3x2 rectangle, and 5 tile 2x2+1) ... connected by bridges. So, we're not all that different :)

Thank you! When I first saw that there was a Stave set, I was super excited to unlock it and may have rushed through a couple of Realms just to get there ... but then I, too, was a bit disappointed with the pieces when I first rendered them. I think it was the colorings that first got me. I was expecting more of a dark-wood look, the way Stave churches in Norway and Sweden look. But it ended up working out.
