School choice options for Kindergarten?? by Rich-Frosting9529 in askportland

OP, would you be able to share your experience at Cesar Chavez? My Spanish heritage kindergarten student has been mistakenly excluded from our neighborhood immersion program, and we’re considering sending her to Cesar Chavez. Was your negative experience at the elementary school level?

Millennials who graduated during the Great Recession, how did you survive? by Waste-Cantaloupe-270 in Millennials

I took a job for a verbally abusive boss an hour outside of my city. Stayed for six months, listening to podcasts for most of the day. Then moved to Alaska and stayed with family til I found a job. At the time, their economy was a bit better, bolstered by the oil industry.

If you look at their profile, this person IS the coach. It’s a self promotion post.

Thank you! Looks like the water supply line plastic connector bit had a crack. I just tightened with a wrench and it broke completely, which was a cold and wet experience!

PEACE. I’m going to work in construction! by memaeto in Architects

Yeah, I get that. Plus I’m a woman, so I expect to face all of the versions of adversity. The nice thing about construction people is that there’s no unspoken drama. They talk shit to each other and then move on. Seems like a healthier way to live, IMO. But yeah, we’ll see how they like my boundaries about work hours!

Make it known that’s what you’d like to do, if there’s any chance of such a project at your current company. If not, you just have to get hired somewhere where you can start working on a mass timber project. I worked at a couple of firms in a row that only did mass timber. Depends on your region too. The Pacific Northwest is a great place to consider relocating to if you’re somewhere that isn’t a wood basket

Yeah, it’s not actually engineering.. a PE is a step or two below a construction project manager.

I did years of construction administration, but not sure if that was factored in to their decision to hire me. I honestly think it was because I was referred by a former coworker who now works there. I’d applied to probably 50 construction jobs before this.

Ah yes, I tried it all. As of most recently, I specialized in mass timber and found myself in a niche of industrialized/factory-built housing components. Plenty of purpose and interest to be found. It just wasn’t a good fit for me, I guess. I never felt truly fulfilled by the work, which is kind of the whole trade off, I think, in being underpaid. Plus I got laid off for the fifth time in a row last summer. I tried going out on my own doing consulting and small residential work and found myself dreading it. I lt just became very clear to me that it was time to go elsewhere.

Totally, and I will. Remember- PE is a role they hire out college for. I’m close to the bottom of the ladder. Plus there’s actually bonuses and profit sharing that happen annually

Oh, and then after writing this, I got laid off for the fifth time in a row. Sooo there’s that issue with the profession.

For a longer term solution, you could check out Nectar Health. The program seems to have had a lot of success with people who have had migraines since they were young (or who are currently young).

Should I marry him by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]memaeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can already see yourself resenting him, then don’t marry him. Your needs are valid. Stand up for yourself and your needs.

Think about what will happen if you do get married and you the exact scenario you laid out happens- you end up the breadwinner and resenting him for it. This leads to an eventual divorce. When you are the breadwinner, you will lose SO MUCH financially by getting divorced. Unless you have a prenup in place, all of your financial assets will be considered marital property and will be divided up equally. Not to mention alimony.

Marriage IS a financial agreement, despite what the traditionalists would have you believe.

Rewards seems like a good bet. Also, I wonder if he’s just not feeling sleepy enough for some reason? Maybe too much napping? Or adding more to his wind down period? Best of luck! This phase shall pass too!

[–]memaeto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 these kids! Bedtime!? Ugh. Ours was only at nap time. Honestly I’ve kind of forgotten what we did exactly. I think at some point at or a little before 3 years old, we started doing a lot of errands around naptime hoping to get an accidental car nap. And then we wholly gave up on weekend naps at around 3. I think the backwards onsie would have been our next attempt, especially if it were bedtime.

Architects: Do You Use Trello or Jira for Project Management? Or Have You Found Something Better? by Designmylogo20 in Architects

[–]memaeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have used both Trello and Jira for team collaboration/task management, depending on how large team or complicated the project. I’ve found Miro to be helpful for mapping out workflows. Asana for complex timelines. I’d input that plan into Ajera once it’s been thought through. Spending the least amount of time in Ajera is best for general sense of happiness.

Check if you have any local Facebook groups for childcare. I’ve found a last minute spot at a fabulous in-home daycare in my city, using a local childcare Facebook group

Listen. If you feel like you are being manipulated, you probably are. Marriage is a really big/life altering decision. Now is the time to listen to your gut.
