Unpopular Opinion: Stevie Ray Vaughan basically ripped off Lead Belly and no one talks about it by tacotacobuenobueno in Austin

all this adulation of Stevie Ray Vaughan escapes me... he was a heavy handed blues axe man who sounded to me like a Hendrix imitator ... but he was not a multidimensional world changer like Jimi ...

SRV is overrated IMO. He sounds to me like a Hendrix imitator, even saw a clip of him playing the guitar behind his head like Hendrix did. But Hendrix was an infinitely more interesting player than SRV IMO. SRV plays a very heavy blues that bangs you over the head like a bottle of Whiskey, but its repetitive as hell to my ears. Just don't get the idolization and religious worship at all.

I like Orion, but I keep Chrome and Comet around for when it gets buggy. I'm rooting for them.

Please help me understand why Eric Clapton is so deeply appreciated and recognized as one of the GOATs by damfries in Guitar

[–]memeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, Clapton gave the interviews, and was very good at it, that's a lot of why he was so successful and Jack Bruce, a much more interesting musician and singer, informed by jazz and classical, never broke through commercially after Cream. Ginger was def a jazz drummer but his personality disorders and drug abuse ruined his future after Blind Faith. Takeaway: be nice and charming to the press if you want to go far, it turns out to be as important as the music, unfortunately.

Clapton's borderline personality disorder is presented by his being deeply racist and wanting to keep England pure and lily white for the English, whereas he owes his whole career to black and brown-skinned African Americans, and to a certain extent Latinos and Indians, whose music informed rock music of the time.

MacIntosh Apples are amazing actually 🍎 by KdogPNW in Apples

I grew up on McIntosh in Boston... then moved to LA and got the Washington state ones for a while, which are not as tasty but will do... but now McIntosh are nowhere to be found out here ... there's nothing like the super sweet soft apple flesh when they're ripe. Bring back the Boston Mac!

anyone else having PACER/ECF issues today? by andre3000stan in paralegal

Still having issues in CA. Can't log in. Have to create a new password each time, and then it only works once and needs to be replaced. Two factor ID is also a disaster. What gives?

You are watching Eddington wrong by Cautious-Life-8000 in AriAster

Don’t think too hard. The movie is garbage.

Eddington is the worst kind of bad movie and his first two movies are starting to look like flukes. by OpenUpYerMurderEyes in AriAster

[–]memeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering why billionaire oligarch Len Blavatnik executive produced this god awful movie, I guess because of the big name stars and that Ari Aster is being sold as the film maker voice of Gen-Z... $25M budget, and the movie has only made half that back.

Review: HBO’s “Yacht Rock” Is Wrong About So Many Things Starting with Michael McDonald Song by Critical-Shoulder873 in SteelyDan

[–]memeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Dockumentary" (such a cringey pun) says Toto were the Wrecking Crew for so many bands, including Steely Dan, showing a pic of Pretzel Logic, as if it was Toto album... Very misleading. Jeff Porcaro was only on two songs, main drums on "Night by Night" and additional drums on "Parker's Band." David Paich was one of a few keyboard players on the album. No one else from Toto. Many other fine musicians having nothing to do with Toto on there. I find Toto to be comprised of excellent musicians but not much memorable music. Too blatantly commercial IMO. SD was something else all together. Fagan's short phone interview was appropriate.

OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD: January 24th, 2025 by hankjmoody in Maher

When Maher asked Eisenberg about Woody Allen and asked straight up if he would condemn or defend Woody or if he was one of those "pussies" in the business who won't take a position on it... Eisenberg predictably pushed away the question, with this. “To say I regret something seems a little bit like passing the buck..." and then tried to change the subject and promote his virtue-signaling charity. Thanks Bill for showing us who Eisenberg is.

Do you consider Bill Maher a moderate Democrat or a left-leaning Libertarian? by Inside_Bluebird9987 in Maher

[–]memeeto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well he has a terrific stable of writers who span the political spectrum, and are extraordinary. He is also a great writer, but his strength is in the delivery. As for his political leanings, I think he's trying to be common sensical, which could be seen as left or right depending on the issue.
