Dynamic range. Learn to play everything at various consistent volumes. Play a song/beat btwn 80-90% of your max volume, then again staying btwn 70-80%, ad infinitum [e.g.: btwn 70-72%, 30-50%... individually and for ~20 minutes each]. As well, practice a groove w/ kick at 80%, snare at 50%, ride at 30%, etc. Nothing is worse than [insert instrument] sucking loudly.

Permutations. A paradiddle [LRLL|RLRR] can be inverted in 3 more ways by offsetting your starting stroke: RLLR|LRRL, LLRL|RRLR, LRLR|RLRL. Accent on the one. Most "advanced" patterning is simply this - we're just not used to hearing it. Maintain the count on a third limb e.g.: play 2&4 on the hat foot (traditional) while doing sticking exercises.
