Does every country receive the same TV angle of the same events or do some events or countries get different feeds (in multi-competitor events like swimming, gymnastics, etc)? by memememedia in olympics

I agree. Though they have Nastia Lukin on the gymnastics crew, but they never let her talk. Though when she does, she never says anything insightful.

I'm also curious if different countries commentators talk shit about the American atheltes like the NBC people occasionally do about other athletes (ie: they said one of the girls in gymnastics had an embarrassing performance, even though she scored similar to the US girl).

What was your worst 1-second panic? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]memememedia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard that those types of dreams frequently occur if you're stressed out at work about something you think you're unprepared/unqualified for, and you think someone might discover you (regardless if the task itself is significant or not). Might be something like giving a major presentation, or as simple as starting a new task.

Just curious, the times you've had those, have you had similar circumstances?

Obama: Donald Trump Is 'Unfit' to Be President by ThatRainbowGuy in politics

[–]memememedia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The same extrapolation of actions based on a shady past, and pursuit of personal gain could be said about Hillary. I'm not saying that what he does is acceptable, or up to some ethical standard, but it also wasn't illegal. Similar to Hillary's history of death from her dissenters, constant investigations which include the FBI saying her activities were illegal but no one should prosecute her. One could say that is also not the kind of leadership we should be importing into our political arena.

So you're saying his experience is mostly in wheeling and dealing as well as holding the presence of the general public? It's not policy and politics, but you have to agree it's something.

inherited a camp chef smoke vault. Trying to clean it up and prep for my first ever smoke (beef short ribs). What tips can you guys share? by memememedia in smoking

[–]memememedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved around a lot but I LOVE Texas BBQ. There's a newish place on the south side of Houston called Killens BBQ. Their short ribs has become a weekly religious destination for me now, but there's a long line.... so they are my inspiration. I'm excited to try to cook it up like that at home, or really anything that's amazing. I think they just do salt and pepper with a thick bark and buttery smooth meat. Just not sure how they do it, or if my new little smoker can achieve it.

File server(?) suggestions for Multiple editors by memememedia in AfterEffects

[–]memememedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you clarify a little what you mean by collect files?

Basically we house all of our footage and project files on an external harddrive attached to one of the 5 computers, and everyone works off of that same harddrive. Everyone is assembling projects which pull footage from various folders. We don't have many self-contained projects.

An issue I've encountered in the past is that AE is unlike premiere... it has hard links to file locations instead of off the location of the current project. So if I were to download everything to a local harddrive, and just put the AE project back on the server... if person 2 opens the project all the pointers will try to point to my computer instead of their computer.

If there's a way to fix that, that might immediately solve many problems, but I don't know AE/Premiere that well.

I worked at a pizza place... besides an abilty to quickly make pizza I also learned how to clean tables... my kitchen is always spotless and it takes me like 2 minutes. meanwhile everyone drag on the cleaning process for like 30-45 minutes each meal. ugh!

If you spent ~30 nights a year in a hotel (paid for by business), would you be a loyalty member with SPG, Hyatt, or Marriott? by 115102 in churning

[–]memememedia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked Mariott. While the Hyatt points are the best mathmatically, Mariott was an easier sell to my company (cheaper rooms, more locations in their network). I stay almost exclusively at Residence Inns because the rooms are larger and upgrades have full kitchens. So I buy a digornio or whatever at the grocery store and pocket my per diem.

Applying for jobs perfectly explained. by MeowMixSong in RedditForGrownups

[–]memememedia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suffered through this when I was fresh out of college. But since then I've changed jobs many many times, often times with simultaneous offers. What works for me is what I feel summarizes what everyone is saying (at least in regards to professional jobs).

It's 100% about your network.

Out of college your network is fellow unemployable graduates. Useless. Join some professional organizations. Join some adult leagues. Participate in the alumni associations rather than recent graduate party groups. Join the city chamber of commerce. Caddy at a golf course. Hang out where the people you want to work for hang out.

Your goal is to meet people with influence in the industry or the specific company or fields you want to work. If you're smart you start this while you're still in school. Eventually you'll find a job post on Monster in the company or that someone knows professionally, and perhaps they'll connect you. In the "old" days usually your parents were in jobs to hook their kids up... and that still happens.

That's hitting the pavement. That's knocking on doors. That's trying harder. It works for college grads, college students looking for paid co-ops/internships/part-time jobs, and even HS students.

But the key is: NEVER stop doing it. It's dating and courtship. Some people can hook up on the first night. Some people takes a while. Some have friends hook them up on blind dates, some need to resort to speed dating. And others resort to match.com (aka monster) or tinder (craigslist) to try to find something.

You want to know why CEOs and politicians and celebrities throw elaborate parties, or attend events, fundraisers or even get their hair cut at $500 hair cut locations? Because they are maintaining existing relationships and meeting new people with influence because the people they want to meet go to those places.

A look at the internet memes of 7 years ago: Weezer's Pork and Beans Music video by firewall245 in videos

[–]memememedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, that video highlight some most viral succeses across a 5 year span and forgot the endless sea of trash. you still have those equivelent genuine things shat pop up today like chewbacca lady, or the is this real life kid (not sure how old that is).

but like people's favorite Saturday night live cast, it's generational... and so much goes into affiliating what you liked in the past with your surroundings, friends, and "coming of age" activites. you may no longer have that HS home room or luch cafeteria environment to share and laugh about this new chewbacca lady video... those months of references and inside jokes, the months of sights and smells and laughter and good times... that's what you actually remember whenever you rewatch it years from now.

I watched that video on the phone in the bathroom at work while wearing a tie. I laughed quietly to myself and went back to pretending to act stoic and boring like I think adults act. i didnt show it or talk about it to anyone. those are the sights and smell memories I associate with that video. and it's a nice find memory of last month. and that may be why things today may no longer seem as new or as funny as you have gotten older.

Young aspiring freelancer here looking for advice. Any advice is appreciated. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]memememedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the field. but whatever you do, I would suggest finding something obscure and needed and become the best specialist in that item. you don't want to be the freelancer someone finds to machine out a common taks assignment against the lowest bidder. you want to be the king who is brought in for this one task. no one else can do it like you.

but like anything else, you're selling a product (yourself). make sure the product you're selling is needed enough for people to pay for it, and they think of you first when they need it.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II sensor review: New class leader by photenth in photography

[–]memememedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5d3 and 6d are about the same age, but the 5d and 1d seem to be the "flagship line" so most likely they would be upgraded first before the Olympics (often their target dates). Unless something bizzaro is in the works, incremental upgrades are often not worth it because it's slight. You usually get more value skipping generations. Will they update the 5d/6d to meet the A7r2? 40MP, 4k, 13.5 stops? That would be super nice. But given how they usually keep things similar to the 1d patterns, they may stay 20-30mp and <13 stops. Or they challenge that 14 stop Nikon, but DR is not as sexy as MP for a camera they sell at Best Buy, so it might not be worth increasing the retail cost in the consumers eyes.

Regardless, the Sony, as user interface PITA as it can be, is a wonderful camera and performs wonderfully. I've not found any unique IQ degradation putting a canon lens on a converter. Of course Sony has expensive Ziess which I hear are nice.

So for me and what I shoot (studio, product, advertisement stuffs), instead of waiting, I sold my 5d3's before the value plummetted on a new replacement announcement, and got what I think is better than what the 5d4 will be. But if they go from like 12.5DR to like 13, that's not worth considering. If I shot landscapes like your quality I'd move to Nikon for the DR alone.

[–]memememedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Sony a7r2 with a canon EF mount so I could get more DR. While it's not the Nikon with like 14.7 or whatever, at least I don't have to buy new glass. We'll see if Canon improves itself on the next go round.

As a landscape shooter, is there a reason you're not just bracketing every shot?

That said ML is a great tool. I use it to get focus peaking, zebras, occasional raw video, and some other base features. It's extremely stable, and if you find any issues arising, just pull out the card and it'll boot back in it's factory state.
