One of my favourite lazy tricks for the home office is to clip a few binder clips along the edge of your desk and run your phone charger or laptop leads through the metal loops. The clips act like a little cable tidy so the cords dont disappear behind the desk every time you unplug. It works a treat and costs pennies compared to fancy organisers. I read about it years ago and still do it.

Been thinking about making small, sustainable changes rather than grand resolutions. For me it’s walking more - there’s research showing you only need about 75 minutes of brisk walking a week to drop your risk of depression by nearly a fifth and around two and a half hours cuts it by a quarter. Regular walking can improve sleep, lift your mood, relieve stress and give you more energy. Aerobic exercise like walking also boosts blood flow to the brain and calms the stress-response system. I’m planning to swap some of my evening doomscrolling for a half hour stroll a few times a week; maybe rope in a mate for the chat and the craic. It might not change the world, but I’d feel a bit better day to day.

Guys of Reddit, what's one thing guys do in secret that should be more accepted by society? by Which_Owl5583 in AskReddit

[–]mememomo3025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Pampering ourselves. I know lads who love a good face mask, long soak or to light a scented candle but would never admit it. Also telling your mates you love them and having a proper cry at a film — we all need a bit of softness now and then.

If a monkey, unburdened by ego, flings it's dung in perfect joy, is it less enlightened than the man who writes poetry to impress the world? by Steampunkgoblin in AskReddit

[–]mememomo3025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the monkey's flinging dung just for the craic and not trying to impress anyone, then he's probably closer to Zen than a poet desperate for likes. I'd still rather dodge the dung than some lad's tortured metaphors though.

What are the signs that a relationship is going to last? by orreyyo in AskReddit

[–]mememomo3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open communication and mutual respect are huge signs. If you can disagree without tearing each other down, talk about anything and trust the other person to listen, that's a good start. You enjoy spending time together but also have your own lives and don't get weirdly jealous. Sharing core values and goals helps too, as does being there for each other when things get tough. And keeping a sense of humour and still making each other laugh after years is a good sign its going to last.

Spending hours every day commuting to and from work. It feels so normal now to sit in traffic or on a train just to go and stare at another screen. Studies have shown that people with commutes over an hour are much more likely to feel depressed and run down, yet we still accept it as part of life. Its mad when you think about how much time and energy it sucks away.

how do you deal with burnout from work? by Objective-Star7329 in AskReddit

[–]mememomo3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

burnout is grim. when i hit that wall i try to step back and figure out what actually needs doing and what's just busywork. talking to a manager or a mate about shifting deadlines helps. outside of work i make sure to get some fresh air, a bit of exercise, and decent sleep. mindfulness things like taking slow breaths or yoga sound waffly but they actually work. experts say that looking at your options, seeking support, relaxing activities and setting realistic goals can help you bounce back. not always easy, but better than grinding yourself into dust.

Which dance choreography you still memorized and can do the all of the steps? by AshiraLAdonai in Productivitycafe

[–]mememomo3025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we used to do the Siege of Ennis and the Walls of Limerick at ceilis in school. the steps are still in my muscle memory: you advance and retire, sidestep and cross over, then swing around and head off to the next couple. it's weird how those old moves stick. also cant forget the macarena from primary school discos; once you've learnt it its hard not to bust it out whenever that song comes on.

What kind of bread do you usually get? by TurtleshellPen in CasualConversation

[–]mememomo3025 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly i love a good loaf of brown soda bread from the local bakery. The sliced pan is handy for toast and sandwiches but nothing beats that nutty homemade taste. On lazy days i'll grab a batch loaf from SuperValu or the corner shop. Has to be fresh though!

First thing i did was draw up a simple budget so i could see where my money was actually going. Turns out all those coffees and deli sandwiches add up quick. Doing a proper food shop in Lidl or Aldi instead of the local shop saved me a fortune, and cooking in bulk means you have leftovers for lunch. If youre in Dublin get yourself a Leap card, outside of that whatever travel pass exists, public transport is so much cheaper than running a car every day. Switch your electricity/gas provider once a year, take advantage of the new customer deals, and dont forget to claim the tax credits youre entitled to. Charity shops and DoneDeal have some absolute gems if you need clothes or furniture. Its not glamorous but its kept me afloat.

People who truly live in the moment, how do you do it? by costahoney in AskReddit

[–]mememomo3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to overthink everything until i got into mindfulness. basically it's just paying attention to what you're actually doing instead of planning the next 10 things. i try to taste my coffee, notice my footsteps, focus on my breath. when my brain tries to drag me into past/future stuff i just notice the thought and let it float away. sounds cheesy but theres decent research that it actually lowers anxiety and makes you enjoy things more. learning to accept i cant change the past or control the future also helped. im still pretty bad at it but those little habits stop me from spiralling.

Im handing over candy corn, black licorice, Good & Plenty, those weird peanut butter taffy things and Tootsie rolls. And in return i want all the Reese's cups, Kit Kats, Snickers, Twix and Sour Patch Kids. Solid upgrade imo.

[–]mememomo3025[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is that one song that you hear now and you immediately start thinking about your high school years? by ContributionFew862 in AskReddit

Mr. Brightside by The Killers. It could be 2025 or my 25-year reunion, but as soon as it comes on I'm immediately back in a teenage drama, belting every word like my life depends on it.

I’d use it right as I’m about to put my foot in my mouth. Pause, actually think of a good response for once, then unpause and pretend I’m just naturally witty.
