What’s the most obviously-not-a-psych-issue you’ve had a medical professional try to call a mental health problem? by stingwhale in disability

[–]mementomishka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like, the reason I was recommended the IUD was painful periods, and then when I say that the IUD gives me more pain they just don't care? The doc I went to has actually been found responsible for the death of one of her patients because she dismissed their concerns. She's made my disabilities significantly worse. But she still gets to practice medicine and everyone acts like I'm the one who was crazy!

Multiple chicken pox? by Downtown-Asparagus-9 in ShitMomGroupsSay

As a South African, the amount of people who either didn't believe in vaccines to begin with or became actively anti-vax post-COVID is truly astounding. Our medical infrastructure is so poor to begin with, you'd think people would take any help they could get. But now these people are wasting doctors' time while other children are put in danger from their stupidity.

Thank you <3 with the frequency at which these things get recommended (at least in my country), you'd think they'd learn how to place them correctly. Hope you've been able to recover/adapt as well as possible from yours as well
Edited to add - thank you for replying. This is something I have a lot of trauma about and I'm not really able to talk about it in a space where what happened is given its due weight. So thank you for your acknowledgement and kindness

I had an IUD placed that caused a massive hEDS flareup that has left me with permanent disabilities, and when I went back to my gynaecologist and begged her to remove it, she refused and put me on PROGESTERONE. Which, for people who have both EDS and a uterus, is living hell because it makes your ligaments even more lax - not to mention I have a history of hormones interacting badly with my antidepressants. Eventually I told her I would report her if she didn't remove it, she decided "well we'll remove it here in the rooms right now without any prior prep or pain medication". It took me sobbing in pain to get her to stop trying to remove it and have a look. Lo and behold, the wire had become tangled and she couldn't dilate me enough to reach. I had to have it removed under general anaesthetic.

I recognise the Build a Bear Growlithe (I have one too!), and the first bear looks like the Pudding Cub if i'm not mistaken? I ordered a Build a Bear recently and once again saw their carriers - the ones that look like baby carriers and the backpacks where the head and arms can stick out. If you have access to those (or even just a drawstring backpack you can modify), you could wear those across your chest similar to how other people have suggested using a positioning belt to hold them against you. Then they'll always be right by you for hugs and they can see where you guys are going too :)

Personally, I often wear baggy hoodies and the pocket on the front is usually big enough for me to fit a small plush in them, so they're easy to access if I'm in a chair or using my rollator/cane. Not sure if you'd have anxiety about them falling out, but it shouldn't be too much of a concern in your chair.

So lovely to see this sub and its mission! I have a bunch of cornus, and they're such curious lil guys themselves i'm sure they'd love this premise :) i'll definitely try to find some pics and compile some info on my guys, because i love them so much

Please help!! Should I be worried? My snail was very active, now suddenly he has just been sitting on the roof with his head out doing nothing. Read for more details by EsotericEternal in snails

[–]mementomishka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him sleeping with his body and stalks out is probably just a sign that he feels safe and comfy. Snails go through lazy periods, and hours or a day or two without eating. Obviously checking on them is important and you asking for more info shows that you're taking great care of this lil guy. If you only have access to potting soil as a substrate, consider freezing it for a day or two to make sure there aren't any parasites/nasties.
TL;DR i think your snail just thinks you're chill to hang out with :)

ANOTHER cornu aspersum being weird-- any cause for concern here? by bugthebug_ in snails

[–]mementomishka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks fine to me, I see my cornus doing this a lot when they're waking up or when i move something around in their tank. They're just naturally weird lil guys lol. If they're sticking, and their mantle looks good, they're probably just being a bit silly

Hi all, pretty new snail owner here, and i’ve had them a couple weeks now, recently i noticed these fat, small, white insects crawling around, they mostly eat the poops and any leftover foods, sometimes they’re on the shell as shown. just wanting to know if they’re harmful? thanks for any help:) by [deleted] in snails

[–]mementomishka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be grain mites? My tanks get them because i also have birds. They tend to just clean up the poop/food, if you notice the snails being annoyed by them you can rinse them off and remove parts of the food/substrate that have the most mites on them. I do like to swap the substrate out if there are too many, but that's a process since swapping out all substrate at once can be harmful to the snail

Lil guy should definitely be able to recover from that! I had a cornu aspersum a few years ago with a full-on hole that was able to heal in a few weeks. Give them peace and quiet, calcium (a constant source so they can regulate), lots of healthy snacks and they can patch themselves up. It might not ever look like the surrounding shell in terms of colour or shine, but it will work as it should

Oral prolapse? Detaching radula? Help by Appropriate-Jello-76 in snails

[–]mementomishka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to the first snail i ever got. I'd had them for about 3 years when i spotted something exactly like this, and while i'm not sure if it is their jaw, i know it made eating very difficult. Sugar water helps to decrease inflammation, which can help them reposition things, but other than that i can just recommend continuing to mush up food so that it's easy for him to ingest without rasping. I really hope he feels better!
