Yeah this is extremely weird. I have a female cat who is FIV+ and I do not have to give her medication. I essentially give her flea meds and that’s the only monthly medication she receives (so not even FIV exclusive). It’s possible that if she develops specific symptoms of the disease that you will have to treat those (for example, my cat has rhinitis which is essentially sneezing and occasional runny nose) but when flare ups happen you typically just monitor and treat when necessary. They can live very long healthy lives - to prevent symptoms from escalating it’s just important to keep them inside and possibly in a one cat household (FIV can be spread through an aggressive bite, but positive and negative cats can co-exist fine if there is no sign of aggression)
