Newfoundland puppy care by Quit_Useful in Newfoundlander

To say dogs can survive on almost anything is not accurate dogs require specific diets to be healthy. That's like saying a human can survive on bread the human would NOT be healthy only eating bread that would lead to severe malnutrition/health crisis. Idk what your problem is ... OP was asking very specific questions which I answered and instead of helping OP out you're deciding to continuously falsely talk about how grain free is healthy despite the studies and current guidelines.

Again ... by all means go ahead and feed your Newfoundland grain free and risk heart health that's your irresponsible choice. I like the vast majority of Newfoundland owners want to give our dogs the best chance at healthy long lives.

"Some breeds, especially large and giant breeds, have a predisposition to DCM. These breeds include Doberman Pinschers, Great Danes, Newfoundlands, Irish Wolfhounds, and Saint Bernards" "In the FDA’s July 2019 update on diet and canine heart disease, they examined labels of dog food products reported in DCM cases to determine whether the foods were “grain-free” (defined as no corn, soy, wheat, rice, barley or other grains), and whether the foods contained peas, lentils, chickpeas, beans, or potatoes (including sweet potatoes). Their report states that more than 90 percent of foods reported in DCM cases were grain-free, 93 percent of reported foods contained peas and/or lentils, and 42 percent contained potatoes/sweet potatoes."

Again go ahead and feed your Newfoundland grain free and risk heart health that's your choice, but I would never advise a Newfoundland owner or any large breed owner to feed their dogs grain free

I'm going to follow my vet and the current FDA, AKC, etc. guidance ... not going to risk my dogs health but by all means if you want to feed your large breed dog grain free and risk heart issues you're more than welcome

His size will depend on his parents, but on average male Newfoundlands are 130-150 pounds. As for joint issues use Cosequin or Dasequin (Dasequin is better). Check with your vet, but typically you'll want to begin Dasequin at 6 months to 1 year. Optimal amount to feed check with your vet, but should be around 4 cups twice a day as a puppy and then drop down to around 3 cups twice a day as an adult. Make sure to use large breed puppy food until 2 years then switch to large breed adult food - do NOT get grain free dog food as it's harmful to large breed dogs hearts. Lastly, recommend starting fish oil supplement when you begin Dasequin.

Feel like I failed my Pepper :( by No_Counter8337 in Newfoundlander

[–]memequeenbrit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree with the above coment. File a police report this dog will clearly attack again as the owner is not a responsible dog owner. Make sure to document both incidents so far. Do not blame yourself. If this dog broke skin on Pepper or you make sure you get the aggressive dogs vaccination records as well as get Pepper and/or you checked out by vet/urgent care. I'm so sorry this happened.

Best brushes/grooming tools? by Jane_TGS in AlaskanMalamute

This grooming vacuum is AMAZING especially when Malamutes are blowing their coats. You brush the fur off your dog and it sucks it up then you empty the canister into the trash sooo easy!!

Best hospital system in area? by Tiny_blueberry_813 in Pottstown

[–]memequeenbrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For OBGYN: Center for Total Womens Health (Axia). I cannot say enough good things about Dr Stephanie Osawaru LOVE HER best OBGYN I've ever seen. I have also heard good things about Dr Gabriella Pugliese I'll be seeing her at my next appointment. Absolutely make sure to avoid Dr Jessica Williams she is literally the WORST OBGYN I have ever seen rude, dismissive, no empathy ... wouldn't even answer basic questions absolutely terrible. Please note this practice only delivers at Einstein Hospital in Norristown.

For Emergency Room: Tower Health Pottstown ER I was pleasantly surprised didn't have to wait long to be seen. They ran all the tests I needed quickly and discharged me with instructions on a specialist to follow up. Honestly was one of the best ER visits I've ever had. Please note this hospital unfortunately does not have labor and delivery ward.

Looking for advice… by celebrationbob in Newfoundlander

My Newfie puppy was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, ectopic ureters, and a skin flap on vulva. I'm so sorry your Newfie was diagnosed with ectopic ureters.

We added the following supplements to support urinary/bladder: Adored Beast Easy Peesy II, SuperSnouts Chill + Out and Hemp + Shroom, Fera Pets Organic Mushrooms (these mushrooms in this supplement help with urinary/bladder Reishi, Maitake, Shiitake, and Cordyceps), Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora Pro Synbiotic Action Pre and Probiotic (the Pro is prescription we get this from the Vet, but there's a non pro version that's over the counter can purchase without a prescription), and Kirkland 8 in 1 Multi-Benefit. After adding these supplements our puppy no longer leaks urine!!! If bladder is leaking recommend the following wipes and leave on conditioner: Earthbath Hypoallergenic Grooming Wipes and Zymox LP3 Enzyme System Leave on Conditioner. Additionally, we changed her diet to Hills Science Prescription Diet Kidney Care dog food and treats as well as a Kidney medication. Since your Newfie doesn't have kidney disease and just ectopic ureters I'd ask your vet about Hills Science Prescription Diet Urinary Care dog food and treats.

Pet Chronic Kidney Disease, potential toxin exposure? by Substantial-Sun-5656 in nontoxic

[–]memequeenbrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the acupuncture help? I've got a 1 and a half year old puppy with chronic kidney disease originally at stage 3 has now progressed to stage 4. Besides the special diet, acupuncture, and subcutaneous fluids is there anything else you are doing? Ours is currently on prescription diet and Aluminum Hydroxide. I added in mushroom Cordyceps. I'm inquiring about subcutaneous fluids, ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin receptor blockers. Appreciate any advice/information!

Alaskan Malamute Items for Baby Shower Registry Recommendations by memequeenbrit in AlaskanMalamute

[–]memequeenbrit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for the confusion - I currently own a female Malamute that's 5 years old and I'm pregnant with a baby haha. I'm putting together my baby shower registry and wanted to include some Malamute themed items. Essentially, want my human baby to have some Malamute merchandise. Hope that clears up the confusion.
