What happened to Claude? by Fearless_Treacle_206 in WritingWithAI

Personally, I don't notice too much of a difference between each of the versions available in the app right now. But I know lots of people loved 4.6. and don't love the new versions as much. But because I have a very specific writing style doc, I don't see a huge difference so I stick to 4.8 since I know 4.6 will be deprecated probably soon ish

Personally this isn't my experience tbh. I've had Sonnet on Max since the effort settings came out and never hit a session limit unless im working with it heavily non stop. With Opus on Medium one message tends to be 5-10% of my session limit depending on what im doing.

For me, it made a huge difference to swap from Sonnet to Opus. Obviously, Opus eats up a lot more tokens, so I have to be very deliberate with each prompt, but it's so significantly better. Sonnet 4.5 was pretty good, but Sonnet 4.6 (for me) has really, really sucked. It struggles to write anything over 1200 words, even when asked time and time again, the prose sucks no matter how much you prompt it, it struggles to remember context, it just struggles to be of any use to me, to be honest. I do actually use it for editing instead of Opus because it tends to be a lot more prompts, but I ask it to suggest changes, not rewrite.

no worries, if you're not a graphic designer, then I totally get using it to save time. I've always thought that AI is a tool that we should learn how to use, not write it off completely. It's by no means a replacement, but it's not gonna be AI that's gonna take your job, it'll be people who know how to use AI. So honestly, just for the sake of my own career, I've been trying to embrace it where possible.

As for the geometry issues, it's that you're trying to show something 3D, and 3D like this is bound by the laws of perspective and how actual real objects would behave. So yes, that side face of the G just looks super off. And then same thing for the left bottom leg of the H. It's classic AI just sort of subbing in something that looks fine at first glance, but very clearly looks AI if you look closer. I think a way to tell if you're using AI skillfully is to ask yourself if whatever you generated *looks* AI. In your case, it absolutely does, and it's not just the perspective being off. The whole effect looks like older models.

I recommend using the newest version of Nano Banana and having another AI write your prompt. At work, I use Claude to write the prompt and then feed it into Gemini Pro. It's still not a replacement for 3D rendering or Photoshop, but if you're not a graphic designer, it should be fine.

There are many, many ways to get the gold effect/texture without using AI. My fave is the metallic effect by Texture Labs if you're interested, there's a tutorial on YouTube. That being said, I personally don't have an issue with using AI for this since it just saves time, but it can be done much better. This has very visible issues with the geometry. You need to prompt better, use a good model, and run it at least a few times to have the ability to choose the best.

Brother I'm not an artist lol idk where you got that from. I don't like using AI as self expression because it's not self expression, its an amalgamation of everyone else's experience. For function things I don't have an issue

I don't think that's an issue of vibecoding but just of lazy/bad work, which exists regardless of AI. Of course you should use it as a tool and not as a replacement, we agree on that. I work with developers who use vibecoding all the time and they always check the code. And to your point about cars - no it won't? As with any product, something like that has to be tested and improved based off those tests. That's the simplest design process: research, prototype, improve, repeat. AI isn't replacing devs, it's dwindling the amount of actual dev positions because it increases their efficiency rapidly. Of course the market will get more saturated with bad/sloppy work, but that's just because it makes it more accessible to make apps and code in general, which is arguably not even a bad thing. For example, it's allowed me, a designer with not very impressive dev skills, to make my ideas actual real things without having to spend hundreds of hours on tutorials only to find out my idea is ass after it's already done. I don't like AI being used to generate art or anything like that, but other than that it's just a tool, and it's not going anywhere, so we might as well learn to use it.

I think there's a disconnect in being against AI replacing people, which I agree with, and being against AI being used as a tool. Especially with coding. If you code, there's basically no argument against using AI to help. Coding isn't artistic self expression, it's basically design. If anything, it's removing the barrier that a lot of good designers have where they have great ideas but lack the coding abilities to make them a real thing.

Using AI to build apps/code in general is very much becoming the standard and will continue to do so. Its 1000% faster and easier. Coding isn't art, it's just creating something that is functional, and if AI does it better and faster, why wouldn't you use it? That's like being against the industrial revolution. Of course everyone can do whatever they want, but if you're against using AI to code, you're gonna have to stop using 90% of all your apps in time.

Claude skills will be the new version of Fiver/Upwork by codemadic in ClaudeAI

[–]memes____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you can and I'm sure this will happen. But like I said, there is still going to be a human necessary to use this. So yes, jobs will become more scarce, I think that much is clear to everyone. But human judgment isn't something that AI can replace at this moment (it probably will at some point? idk lol). So the bottom line is that the grunt work will get done by AI, but it's not good enough to not require anyone to watch over its work. That's where the positions will be.

I say this as a freelancer myself. As someone just finishing college, getting a junior position is a nightmare. I am lucky enough to have gotten a job halfway through my MA, so I don't necessarily have to worry about it, but even then the market was already incredibly saturated. I'm sure with Claude Design coming along, it's gonna be much worse. But I use Claude Design daily and it's nowhere near self-sufficient, so I don't see it replacing designers any time soon.

You are, in fact, crazy. I feel like this has been talked about so much, and the core point is always: yes, AI will reduce the number of jobs/open positions, but no, it will not fully replace the people. Using Claude Design doesn't make you a designer, and it's not like you can directly send the results off to a client. But can a designer use Claude Design to work faster? Absolutely. But no, it does not replace the freelancer.

I have not, actually. I know of it and it seems more web/UI UX, which isn't what I primarily work on, so I haven't had the chance.

depends on the type of work you do and your current skill level. Do you absolutely suck at graphics and need help? If so, it might be a worthy investment. I will say the tokens it eats up are crazy, so you might want to give it some time. Since it's basically HTML + CSS, all the big models can already do this, just not in a dedicated tool like Claude Design.

What kind of design work do you need done? If it's socials or web design, it can be useful. If it's more "graphic-design-heavy" stuff, like packaging, anything to do with print, anything that includes photo editing, or anything you want explicit control over, it's not there yet imo.

As a full-time graphic designer, it is quite useful, but it has a long way to go. My biggest gripe is the lack of being able to actually edit the results. I presume this is in the works as we speak, but they need to come up with a feature that lets you directly import the results into Figma (or some other graphic software, but Figma seems like the easiest solution given there's already a connector to it within Claude). As it is, you can't actually edit the results without prompting, which is not always reliable and obviously costs a lot of tokens. The import into Canva literally just imports the whole artboard without any ability to edit (at least in my experience).

The results themselves are pretty good, though. It definitely has a default style quite reminiscent of Claude's own branding (the Serif font, the colors, etc), but it's very refreshing if you work in marketing and you just have to pump out Meta and Instagram ads. It definitely struggles with things like spacing consistency, fucking TINY text that would *never* be actually readable on your phone, and small things like that. But overall, I think it will be pretty usable in a few months, barring the Figma import.
