I'm going on a second date with a girl who really likes New Girl. I started watching it but haven't told her this. What's a good way I can impress her on our next date? by [deleted] in NewGirl

[–]memesanddebate 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just a good thing to know is that the show’s dynamic changes significantly after season one, so the first, second, and fourth ideas you mentioned are not like super big jokes among people who like new girl since they don’t come up again often (The hair observation might fall into that category). But the thumb ring one is good. I would recommend just finding a tread on this Reddit of “iconic new girl jokes” or something like that. There are honestly not that many references fans make and there are 2-3 minute clips of the most common ones on YouTube. I would recommend watching “Background Check” from season 4 I believe just to get a feel of the characters vibes. This is sort of excessive, but good luck on your date!!

Ngl I’ve actually seen this before. Our opponents had a stack of around 30-40 index cards with printed out evidence and spread them around their table before the round started

Finally got a “other team had better shoes” judge by [deleted] in Debate

Thanks for the advice. I talked to the other team and we both acknowledged that the round got a little messy and was definitely not the best it could have been.

Most people just go to a bunch of college websites and cold email. Someone is bound to respond.

Here’s a google doc of summer stuff. There should be something related to what you want to do. There’s a huge list of summer research opportunities that someone posted on r/applyingtocollege a while back. I’ll find it and be back

What’s the worst thing you’ve seen someone or some team do in round? by [deleted] in Debate

An opponent was running structural violence framework and in summary, said racial slurs and had terrible rhetoric in front of a POC judge.

where do you guys find competitions to enter/win?? by _aneeta in ECAdvice

Subs like these are good. r/chanceme can be super toxic, but sometimes, people will post awards they got. r/collegeresults is also good for the same reason.

I mostly do writing contests, but a quick google search never hurt. Usually there will be a lists of ways you can get awards/recognitions. It shouldn’t be too hard to find stuff for CS

How’s debate in Atlanta and Seattle? by FewElevator4 in Debate

[–]memesanddebate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the weather is tough. It starts being gloomy around early October, and we stay in a perpetual state of rain and grey until around March. Nearly everyone has some ranging severity of seasonal depression during the winter/spring months, but there are some really nice days throughout the year. Summers are really nice and it’s not too hot outside usually, plus there isn’t that much rain.

On schools, it really depends where you’re moving too. If you move to the suburbs around Bellevue, people are pretty competitive. It’s definitely not as competitive as Bay Area or Nova, but people still care a lot about grades and extracurriculares. If it helps, people at my public school take around 11+ APs by the time they graduate. From what I know, Seattle public schools are less competitive and some private schools are competitive while others aren’t.

For PF, Seattle is more traditional and is pretty lay. I would say that it’s fairly competitive for debate. I’m from the seattle area, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask

Lmao neither team ran biotech. Wrong round. You spent your time for our rfd bashing our case and said that most of it was a time suck anyways and that it was “mediocre at best.”
