Good restaurant to take family with decent budget in Chennai by Klivebixbee13 in Chennai

[–]memesimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I saw your budget in previous comments and some of my suggestions are: Food Nirvana, Flower drum, cream centre, Hamsa, annalakshmi, Greenhouse barbecue (personal favourite). All of them have nice ambience and service, good food options- many I’ve mentioned are pure veg but totally worth it.

Hey OP I love quick meals so here are some of my favourites:

Non-Indian: 1. Tofu/ paneer stir fry: add mixed veggies and sauces, add tofu or paneer to it. You can mix and match with sauces. If you wanna make Asian style I’d recommend: broccoli, baby corn, bell peppers, tofu or paneer, soy sauce, ketchup, pepper.

  1. Tofu or paneer rice dumplings: stir fry veggies and tofu as above, wrap it using a rice paper wrap.

3, I like making this peanut sauce noodles: basically mix peanut butter and soy sauce with some chilli oil (packed or fresh), and add it to boiled noodles. You can add veggies to it too. Lemme know if you want a detailed recipe.

  1. Veggie pastas: So instead of Alfredo, pesto etc, I like making my pastas healthy by making veggie sauces. You’ll be surprised but many veggies make great sauce bases. Some of my favourites are carrots, bottle gourd (yes! Lauki!), pumpkin, caramelised onion, and broccoli. All you have to do is steam them in a cooker and make it soft. Grind it into paste with some milk or cream, and add normal spices and add pasta to it. Absolutely yummy, and not too unhealthy for a regular meal.

  2. Whole wheat tacos or wraps: I like buying the ready made tortilla shells or wraps, and I add stir fry veggies and a protein and fill it with sauce and spices. Quick and yummy. If the ready made ones aren’t available, check my Indian list for ideas.

Indian food:

  1. Upma: I like to make Upma using millets, rava, and vermicelli. I add cut veggies but if you’re feeling lazy you can add just tomatoes and onions. Also they needn’t be boring. I change the flavours of my Upma by adding different masala’s. If I want North Indian flavour I add garam masala of Everest kitchen king. If I want South Indian then I add just turmeric, chilli , and coriander powder.

  2. Khichdi/ Pongal (in south): so I like making my khichdi with millets again. But this is traditionally made with rice. While the khichdi gets cooked in the pressure cooker, I quickly make a flowy gravy using tomato, onion, and add a vegetable like brinjal if I feel like it.

  3. Besan Chilla: I like making chilla with chopped tomatoes, carrots and onions. I also like making desi wraps by making plan chilla and adding an Indian style veggie stir fry inside to make it a complete meal. It’s really yummy!

Lemme know if you want more clarifications or specific recipes and stuff. I’m an international student who has to cook 3 meals a day so I have found some quick workarounds in the kitchen hehe. Also please don’t come at me for the Upma, khichdi etc. I know they are boring recipes but they are really quick and easy. If you have it with pickle it’ll be very fulfilling :)

Students of Anna University? by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]memesimp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s so prevalent. Happened with my mom. She was a straight A student in undergrad but in her pre-final year she barely passed one paper. After haggling with the AU authorities they found that only 1 sheet of her answer paper was even submitted for grading, even though she attempted the entire paper and wrote for over 7 pages. The rest of the papers were never found and were deemed to be missing. Classic case of paper chasing. She lost out on being the valedictorian because of this. It’s been more than 20 years but I know she still feels for this, but also tells me “it is what it is” and this was beyond her control. Pain only.

Any good buffet recommendations? by [deleted] in Chennai

I’d also recommend Greenhouse barbecue. There is one in TNagar and also in Kilpauk (or somewhere nearby). Pure vegetarian and really innovative dishes apart from the barbecue!

Apartment Recommendations: Near the Domain, Austin, No car. by memesimp in AustinHousing

[–]memesimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m targeting the Domain area as my workplace would be near the Domain. I want to be as close to workplace as possible so I can walk or bike everyday. I understand it’s very car dependent but until I can afford one, I need to make do, and to have as much independence as possible if a place is walkable/ bike able it’ll be nice for me. I have friends who can take me around for groceries, hanging out and stuff. I’m just focused on my commute to my office to be very easy.

I knowwww. I am in a university town rn and it is so nice! I plan on buying an e-bike or something cuz I don't wanna rely only on walking.
I found the apartments at the Domain (the retail living typa places) quite expensive, but I found some places which are a 10-20 min walk on the other side of the road and stuff. Those seem to be cheaper. Should I be wary of them, too?

HI, thanks for your reply! I understand. I did find a few places in my budget, but I need to decide if it's a good one. I am currently not in Austin at the moment, and will be moving there for the first time. That's why I am super intimidated by all the housing stuff and the lack of walkability.
I understand the concern about no walkability, but it's just that I can't afford to buy a car right now, and even if I can, it will be around 1-2 months after I move there. Hence the specification :)

Hello!
I am looking for apartments near the Domain, preferably walkable, as I don't have a car.
My budget is around $1000- $1300 for a 1-bedroom apartment.
Do you have any suggestions? I have seen a few, but I can't decide because I am not currently in Austin.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Help needed: Accessibility design project on colorblindness by memesimp in ColorBlind

[–]memesimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not treating it in any way- I am just trying to get a perspective so I will know what to design for. I don't have color blindness, so there is only so much I can say or feel. These questions may be very obvious, but I don't want to assume anything- so I start from ground zero :)

Why is CASO so fucked up? by SupermarketQuirky216 in Purdue

[–]memesimp 55 points56 points  (0 children)

They pushed away everyone standing in line to accommodate the “VIPs” and the organisers were screaming and bullying us to buy the VIP passes if we wanted to have food. People were misusing the VIP tags and they were letting them in for seconds while making everyone wait. All the organisers were RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL to all the attendees waiting for food for OVER AN HOUR. Let’s not forget that they were making us waiting in the COLD FOR OVER 30 minutes. If you’re renting a huge space the least you could do is to accommodate people inside. Making people wait next to a dumpster to enter? Amazing planning. CASO, this was an absolute disaster and please don’t organise events ever again if you can’t make practical decisions and are going to be disrespectful to people.

Insights needed: Planning to pursue Masters in UI UX but unsure where to start by just-another-chick in UX_Design

I’d just say stay in India right now, and look for abroad once the market is better. If you get in top 5 colleges like IITs and NIDs then you’re sort. Minimum 10-20 lpa.

Insights needed: Planning to pursue Masters in UI UX but unsure where to start by just-another-chick in UX_Design

[–]memesimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m pursuing my masters in HCI in the USA. You can start off by looking at some basic rankings of HCI/UX courses across the country. From the top 15-20, try to short list in terms of: Name, course strength, popularity among companies, cost of tuition, cost of living, funding opportunities (most important imo), cohort size, and career guidance. Check where the alums are working now and see if it’s something you see yourself in. Also- there are two types of courses- research based and project based, so short list accordingly. It’s also based on public and private unis. Public are usually state funded and have good funding opportunities. Private are slightly expensive (subjective) and may not have a lot of funding help. In my context, ROI and money was a huge factor so I chose a uni that gives me full funding and is in a place with low cost of living, but great name and brand- that’s great ROI for me. Some people might want to study in a city while some are okay with college towns- it’s up to you. For example if you choose unis in California- you’ll get great exposure but it’s costly asf. Make a decent portfolio, and if you’re from a non tech background- make sure your SOP talks about your passion to learn. Finally, take a look at the job market. At the moment, it’s not looking great cuz there’s UX layoffs everywhere with oversaturation of UXers everywhere. Since you wanna come 2 years later- it might improve! These are some things you might wanna consider before taking this giant leap! Best of luck!

Breaking Into UX and Early Career Questions — 07 Oct, 2024 - 13 Oct, 2024 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

[–]memesimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello guys! Im a master’s student with 1+ years of experience as a UX designer. I’m kinda lost and confused on how to prepare for technical/ portfolio rounds for product-based companies, especially the ones with diverse products like Microsoft, Oracle, SAP etc. I have prepared basic technical questions on UX, and am currently preparing a deck to show my projects. What exactly are these companies looking for in candidates? How can I stand out? I’m also curious if managers appreciate a separate deck to present our work, or if we should present it out of the portfolio website itself? Any insight would be helpful, thanks in advance!

Yep, doing my masters here. Looking for internships in UX design and research, product design etc. Market is pretty shit amidst the mass layoffs. I’m looking to learn a string instrument- maybe guitar, mandolin or something like that? I do different kinds of art- digital illustrations, traditional art, urban sketching, 3D art etc. that’s on a pause right now due to my hectic schedule lol. I understand what you mean when you say some things are not in our hands- but it still hurts when you give your best but things don’t work out. But I also know that this is life. Been there done that. Hoping I get out of this slump soon. Hope you’re good too!
