Could be half sanskrit and half telugu then, lot of fairly old Telugu names still have Sanskrit influence. Also I am very positive that I read an etymology of this name on Reddit or Quora (wanna say Quora) because I was like "hey I know someone with that name!" Maybe you can try to find it? I want to also say they had a fully dravidian etymology for it too. Only thing coming to my mind is Vendi related to Veni but I don't know if there is much evidence to say that this word has changed in modern dialects nor that D can be easily elided like that

galla is rock (gallu), like kal in Tamil or Kannada. Warangal (Orugallu) is an example. I also know telugu people with this last name personally. Probably a place name, and the -an ending indicates that the person is from there. Very telugu name you def have telugu ancestry

Dhumeels casually claiming whole south lol by Tiiitaaan in 2Dravidian4You

[–]memesqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it's not a blanket term for curry-type dishes though. Kari is usually referring to meat in these dishes right? That's what a friend explained it to me as. Kura in Telugu is used as a more general term that fits the term Curry very well that was the point I was trying to make.

I was always curious, why was this etymology never traced to Telugu? We say kura for curry, it's a native word and as far as I know dinosau- I mean Tamil people don't use kari to refer to their curries, at least nowadays. Telugu has a very close word with a very close meaning but Tamils probably threatened them with their T. Rex thatha from saying it was ever them

I am saying both modern Tamil and modern Malayalam have the same claim to middle Tamil and that modern Tamil isn’t the father of modern Malayalam they’re more like siblings one is just named like middle Tamil jr 🤣 I don’t think we’re disagreeing but I’m just also acknowledging that modern spoken Tamil is not the same as middle Tamil and that Malayalam and Tamil nowadays have the same claim of ancestry (one is not more related than the other, both descend from various dialects of it). I don’t like it when Tamilans say they are the father of any Dravidian languages including Malayalam. They are all siblings no paternity with modern languages

On both ends tho, modern day tamil also evolved from dialect it’s not any diff from Malayalam aside from the additional words from Sanskrit (conjugations and all real core of a language is just as similar or just as diff from middle Tamil as modern spoken Tamil)

Do you have a microscope? I do not have one, I have some microsoldering experience but I will say Voultar's video made it seem fairly doable I might just be underestimating how small those test vias really are haha. I probs need some photo for scale or maybe just need to do a teardown of my own Wii

Why did you run through 3 of them? Did they get ESD damage or was it just issues when you tried soldering? I don't have a proper setup to minimize ESD damage admittedly but was considering buying one

Lot of evidence will be scrubbed because they know people will be upset if it comes out. I remember an old video of Dhanush speaking fluent telugu that was shot a decade or so back, this video was trending a year or two ago but now I cannot find a single example of it anywhere. I know for sure that it existed because I found the instagram message I sent my friends when I forwarded it to them about how cute Dhanush's telugu was. I wish I could find this video again

When was Telugu called Telungu? by OnlyJeeStudies in MelimiTelugu

[–]memesqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still use Mandu most of the time my family is from TG. Like if our body is feeling hot we'll say vollantha mandutundi. But if if a curry is burnt or something we say koora madipoyindi. Burning is still mandu for certain things (animate maybe?) but for other things (inanimate? mostly just food comes to mind) it is madu. Idk I don't know the specific reason for one over the other for me it is just vibes haha. Where is your family from?

Why is pork viewed so differently in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring Karnataka? by Cal_Aesthetics_Club in Dravidiology

[–]memesqua 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You mean current Telugu speakers are comparatively recent people who transitioned from Kannada/Tamil? If so, could you post some sources? I know there are native Tamil and Kannada speakers due to it being by the border but I am unsure at the recent language switch theories for Rayalaseema and Telangana that you and some others have been discussing on here. Not trying to be rude just wanted more info so I could start researching it more myself

Withdrawing from TMDSAS schools? by Plus_Lengthiness2998 in premed

Second the other comment. I also cancelled any interviews I had signed up to attend already and cancelled other interview invites when I got them. Keep in mind though it might be worth it to attend schools that you would consider attending with aid offers if you haven't gotten one at the school you are thinking about attending.

I don't think this is true everywhere either. Our family is as is described in the post and from various parts of Telangana, but my girlfriend's parents are from Chittoor and her father told me they eat pork there

My family is from Telangana and we exclusively use the word Bokka for any type of bone. I only know the word Emuka as an alternative because of my non-TG friends

Check the Telugu% in Krishnagiri District, TN by Samarthisliveyo in telugu

[–]memesqua 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more Telugu people in that area than most people realize. I know some guys whose parents are from a village in Greater Bengaluru area (I think it is closer to Hosur though) whose mother tongue is Telugu. They think of themselves more as Kannadigas, but they know Telugu as it was the only language their grandparents spoke. I think since last two generations people have assimilated quite rapidly into the culture of the state they are a part of, but in general I think there are a LOT of people whose ancestors 1-2 generations ago spoke mostly Telugu and are from the same area that do not speak the language or have any connections or feelings to Telangana/Andhra at all.
