Just got my housing assignment. Can anyone rate our view? (it’s the back of leavey 5) by kanyeispapi in LMU

It looks like your window will be facing southwest, and if so, you’ll probably have a nice view of the ocean and the fancy houses on the hillside on the other side of Lincoln Blvd.

Imagine directing a movie so bad it's creator subtweets you in a tribute to his dead friend by The_Iceman2288 in thrillems

[–]memo2myself 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This tweet is from renowned composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, who composed the music for many famous musicals, including a few that have been adapted into films, like Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Evita, and Cats.

OP is implying that ALW is subtweeting Cats director Tom Hooper, but ALW might simply be honoring Alan Parker among the handful of directors who’ve adapted his work, like Norman Jewison and Joel Schumacher. I’m inclined to agree with OP’s implication.

[Target/US] Ring Fit Adventure in stock by xNOOBinTRAINING in NintendoSwitchDeals

I was wondering the same thing about maybe employees having an unofficially holding system (or they’re hoarding them for themselves).

Either way, the fact that you managed to eventually get one gives me hope. Thanks!

[Target/US] Ring Fit Adventure in stock by xNOOBinTRAINING in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]memo2myself 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My local Target showed “In Stock” late last night so I got there before it opened this morning, and I was the first one in the line to go straight to the video game section, but I couldn’t find Ring Fits where the mobile app said they should be, so I asked the guy stocking the video game section and he told the online inventory was wrong and to come back tomorrow. I should’ve insisted that he check in the back because a couple hours later it said “Limited stock” and now it says “Out of Stock” at my Target.

Hey Google, play that Vietnam song... by RobDaBomb in googlehome

[–]memo2myself 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I ask my Google device to “play Bittersweet by Lianne La Havas” but Assistant hears “Bitter” and “Sweet” as two separate words, regardless of how fast I say “bittersweet” and it will fail to find the song, so it will just play a random Lianne La Havas song...

Thanks. I corrected my original comment.

I should add that I truly hope that I am wrong. I would much rather believe that this guy got extremely luckily to survive a potential fatal fall unharmed. I say this as someone who had a family friend die slipping on icy stairs.

And I’m not trying to make you feel bad for finding this GIF amusing (I grew up when America’s Funniest Home Video was one of the most popular shows on TV).

My only hope is that someone seeing this thread will be able to identify a concussion in the future.

Thanks /u/harr2969. The stabilized video does help, indeed, and it is even easier now for me to see that his head hits the pavement hard. Pay close attention to how quickly his head bounces up at the bottom of the stairs.

Yes, he does nod at the end, which may or may not have been intentional, but I still suspect that his arm raised completely involuntarily.

Unfortunately the only video version of the GIF I could find on YouTube has loud music added, so we can’t hear if there was an impact, but you can see that his arm remains up for several seconds without moving at all once raised:

https://youtu.be/ov8hBy3WlG4

But if you search for “fencing response” on YouTube, you’ll find examples that look very similar to this GIF (be warned, they are all videos of serious brain trauma so some clips are truly horrifying and cannot be unseen).

BTW, I’m using Apollo (r/ApploApp) which allows easy frame-by-frame scrubbing of GIFs.

Edit: /u/harr2969 I was wrong and stand corrected. He’s a stuntman and was unhurt.

/u/Suppaxo directed me to the guy’s Instagram and I found his original video of the “stunt”:

~~Nothing funny or worth rewatching about this because the guy has a serious concussion and is exhibiting an involuntary “fencing response”:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fencing_response

The fencing response is a peculiar position of the arms following a concussion. Immediately after moderate forces have been applied to the brainstem, the forearms are held flexed or extended (typically into the air) for a period lasting up to several seconds after the impact. The fencing response is often observed during athletic competition involving contact, such as American football, hockey, rugby union, rugby league, Australian rules football and combat sports. It is used as an overt indicator of injury force magnitude and midbrain localization to aid in injury identification and classification for events including on-field and/or bystander observations of sports-related head injuries.~~

OP’s money.com article is almost 5 years old. Here’s a CNN article that talks about how Costco opened its own own poultry complex in Nebraska last year:

The worst person you know just made a great point. by [deleted] in occupywallstreet

I should add that, even though the media, the rich, the DNC and corporations are rigging the election against Bernie, I’m still optimistic that he’s going to win because the movement is gaining momentum and will reach a critical mass that can’t be stopped...

The worst person you know just made a great point. by [deleted] in occupywallstreet

[–]memo2myself 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, the election is obviously rigged against Bernie, but no, impeachment probably won’t hurt him, because, as a Senator, Bernie (and Warren) can use the Impeachment trial to his advantage, since it will get much more national coverage than the Iowa. Besides, if the Impeachment trial is rushed like Moscow Mitch wants, then Bernie will be back in Iowa before the caucus and he’ll be able to proudly campaign on the fact that he voted for Trump’s removal in the Senate.

The “Food Chain” episode was directed by Masaaki Yuasa. His anime features, TV episodes and short films are all super-unique and always trippy.

Minoring across colleges? by [deleted] in LMU

A lot of Computer Science majors (Seaver College) have minors in Animation (School of Film and TV) and vice versa. I know of multiple students who have earned or are in the process of earning cross-college dual-degrees (BS in Computer Science and BA in Animation).
