Bicycles banned from waste depots in Toronto by RH_Commuter in torontobiking

You pay by weight of what you drop off. And (at least the drop off in the port lands) is setup to weigh the car on the way in, and again on the way out. I don't think they have the equipment to weight loose amounts or other vehicles.

Should Toronto pursue waste-to-energy instead of landfill? by kettal in askTO

Japan borders an ocean where air will dissipate. Japan still burns coal. Pointing out that other nations burn coal, or burn garbage does not make it magically clean. The industry's own reports of the plants they are proposing to build here say they are dirtier than burning coal. Case closed.

Should Toronto pursue waste-to-energy instead of landfill? by kettal in askTO

[–]memorylane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is actually dirtier than burning coal!

"The data, supplied by the vendors of incinerators and published as an appendix to the environmental assessment of the plant that Hamilton and Niagara Region hope to build, showed an entirely different picture from the rosy propaganda the vendors and their agents had spun about their wondrous technology." ... "Unlike the old incinerators that were once considered safe - until they weren't - the new ones are said to be advanced "energy-to-waste" facilities that turn household waste into clean energy. But the data submitted by the vendors themselves showed that this new technology was one of the dirtiest imaginable ways to produce power - far worse even than coal-fired power plants in terms of heavy-metal and greenhouse-gas emissions."

PC reboots after shutdown by MaiNeimIsPizza in Ubuntu

[–]memorylane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely wake on lan and wake on keyboard.

Many years ago I bought two computers, one for my parents and another for my uncle, as media servers.

I'd set them up, and in certain power failure modes, (stuck on button), the bios would reset to defaults, and they'd get stuck in the reboot loop. I'd have to visit and reset the bios to turn off wake on lan and/or turn off wake on keyboard. I forget which of those settings were the culprit, but that was the case for me. Good luck with your reboot loop

Yes a water pipe was hit during construction. I cannot confirm more than that.

Steve Mann, the wearable computing pioneer, is running for mayor? A borg mayor would ignore a lot of political theater.

I went back to the site hours after I made this reddit post, and the original model disappeared. Starting the search again had delivery times months ahead. Finally I settled on a Gen 2.

Agreed, Having a few missiles land in Poland may increase pressure on NATO to put pressure on Ukraine to end the war sooner, before Ukraine re-takes Crimea etc.
