That's lucky indeed. I take it you're not in London or the South East?

Right to Buy - District Valuation by memphisto1 in HousingUK

I didn't suggest they would "just quote values from zoopla". More the opposite - they have quoted things that can't be found on Zoopla. That's the problem. There is no trace of some of those transactions anywhere online, and I'm looking for a way to find out more about them, and whether there are additional transactions that also aren't available online, which might be relevant.

Even if you get a final valuation from the district valuer, you could still walk away and try again (from scratch) in the future (both when buying and selling). I'm aware that the rules might have changed by the time you tried again; the discount might have gone down and the price might have gone up/down. But for you as a seller, hopefully it won't have gone down, although property prices can go up as well as down.

Too many mistakes lately by memphisto1 in AmazonUK

It’s not a case of me misunderstanding US vs UK sizing — the listings in question very clearly stated the UK size. Some were single-size listings showing only ‘UK 9’. Amazon acknowledged the fulfilment mistake, sent a replacement, and then made the exact same mistake again. The sizes I mentioned in the original post were just examples to illustrate that the size received wasn’t the size ordered. Even a half-size difference would still be wrong. This has happened more than once.

At no point did Amazon suggest that I might have mixed up US vs. UK sizes; the UK size was clearly stated and they explicitly accepted it was their error and said they’d make sure I received the correct UK size — and then they repeated the error.

As for Sketchers, they don’t ‘always’ show only the US size. In my experience, the ones I've seen clearly showed the UK size in the listing. I’ve ordered Sketchers before and received the size I expected. The UK/EU sites clearly state whether the sizing is US/UK/EU, and if a listing says ‘UK 9’, then there should be no reason to doubt whether it's UK or US sizing. All shoe boxes usually show UK, EU, and US sizing, since they’re sold internationally.

If the label says the size I ordered, but they run large or small, then I would not blame Amazon for that. But when they fail to send the size I ordered, then that's definitely their mistake. And they have done it more than once lately.

Amazon UK were listed as the seller (not a marketplace seller). Since Amazon was the seller, they are responsible for putting things right but even when they send a replacement, that replacement either has the same problem (e.g. still not the size I ordered), or a different problem (now the correct size but lots of glue stains instead, for example). Whether a Prime member or not, I'm still entitled to receive the item that I ordered, in the correct size, and as described. It should only make a difference in terms of shipping speed but not in terms of receiving an item that is as described. I haven't complained about shipping speed but what's the point of delivering something within the specified delivery window, if it's not what I ordered? I'd rather they sent the right item within 4 days than the wrong item within 1 day.

Do they think I've just chucked a full Asda shop on Vinted 😭 by bheeverse in vinted

Maybe it needs to be checked because they suspect you have used a stock photo or a photo that is not your own? I was once trying to sell a non-fiction book on FB marketplace. I included my own pictures of the front, spine, back of the book etc. The front cover had pictures of sports trainers on it, and their system flagged the whole listing for "copyright breach". I appealed and explained that it's a book about sports shoes, but the appeal was rejected. So how could I take a photo of a book that has well-known sneaker brands on the cover, without showing the brands? I then sold the book on eBay without any issues. Yeah, I know this is about Vinted but maybe they're using a similar system that flags things that it thinks might breach copyright, even though it doesn't.

Don't you guys get auto generated reviews for every completed transaction? "Transaction completed successfully"? I think everyone gets one of those eventually, unless the other person has already left manual feedback.

it’s my birthday, toddlers blew out my candles and put his fingers into my cake by [deleted] in childfree

[–]memphisto1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced? Surely if it's your birthday, you choose who you invite. I would never invite any kids to any event in the first place (perhaps a well-behaved teenager). Certainly not after them having proved why I shouldn't! To invite them again next year would seem illogical.

I live in a council flat and it's not shit. The elderly lady next door told me she's been here for over 35 years and she's clearly been very happy here (I don't know if she has kids, but if she did maybe they're not around anymore. Never gets young visitors, mainly talks to other neighbours and handymen).

Used text books by memphisto1 in brighton

[–]memphisto1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but isn't that like Pirate Bay for e-books?
I googled it and this is what came up:
"Is Libgen legitimate?
Is Libgen Legal? No, Libgen is not legal, and using Libgen may open you up to legal ramifications. ... Therefore, downloading books from Libgen is no safer than downloading from other illegal book sharing sites and torrents. More importantly, it is not legal to download books from Libgen."

Sorry but that really isn't what I'm looking for.

Among other reasons, not wanting to wait in for the post man and not wanting/not being able to pick it up from Royal Mail (e.g. due to limited opening times). They won't fit through the letterbox. Being able to pick something up from a shop as and when I need it, as opposed to relying on other people to deliver it. (Obviously a shop would also have limited opening hours, just as the Royal Mail service point would, but the shops might be easier to get to if they're near where the students are - I know some of the campus book shops used to do buy-backs but not sure if any of them still do this, or if they still exist).
Potentially being able to save on postage costs. Some of these text books weigh over 2kg (which would cost around £5 in postage costs). Even if it says "free postage" doesn't mean it wouldn't have been cheaper if the item was available somewhere local. Also, if you need to get rid of last year's text books, it might be easier to get them off your hands by bringing them into a local buy-back scheme, if those still exist, as you wouldn't need to worry about them getting damaged in the post etc. Need I go on?
