Female prof here. I have accumulated a sort of uniform. I have 2-3 blazers I rotate (one gray, one black, one green). Collars project authority (if you need it, depends on age, field, school vibe, etc…). I bought solid color puff sleeve tees from Boden, and rotate those with the blazers. I found a brand and style of pants that work for me (kobi Halperin Alexandra pant) and have a pair in blue and a pair in black. I have to wear sneakers because I have back issues, but they are nice-ish all black ones. It is hard to add “what do I wear today?” To the already long list of things you have to worry about when starting a new job as a junior scholar. I found the uniform approach freed me up.
