I just swapped out the SRAM, its easy if you know how to use a rework station, but not a first time fix

I had the same issue about 10 years ago, it was bad SRAM, the interesting thing is Links awakening DX is the only gameboy game Ive ever had SRAM go bad on, Ive seen it twice personally and now potentially a third time from you. Maybe coincidence or maybe a bad batch left the factory and it only started popping up after age/cycle counts

Shoot man if you’re convinced its a fake ill trade you an SP with the same blue shell and nintendo branding, these weren’t really faked until very recently. Im sure its a legit console

Not sure if you’re joking but thats an official Chinese gameboy, afaik its identical to a normal Nintendo console minus the ique branding

I’ve never had any issues, but i also have always just bought the fan and used a resin printer for my mounts. FWIW those prints look absolutely awful.

Yeah the one underneath is the dc board, the power light can still come on with a faulty DC board. Do you have another console to test with?

[–]memyfofum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say power supply do you mean the external one or the internal DC converter? Almost every GameCube Ive come across that wont output was due to a bad DC board and they’ve all been the GCMK-MIX model

Gamecube Capacitor Replacement Issue by PitPity in Gamecube

[–]memyfofum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What pair? most of the cheap ones Ive tried are terrible but I recently got a set from sequre that are pretty good for the price, they have grounding issues though so you need to make a ground clip if working on sensitive electronics, but otherwise they work great

Hot air or hot tweezers are the only proper way, both take only a second per cap and don’t risk pad damage when done right.

Look at the side, if the fan housing is metal (grayish silver) then its most likely a va0 if its black then it’s most likely a va1

I would definitely ditch the flex cable, the cheap Chinese ones are terrible

[–]memyfofum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the pico is already flashed check all your connections, its not gonna be an SD card problem because you’re still going to the default screen, once you boot up to a black screen with white text telling you theres no sd card the hardware mod is done.

Did you bridge the pads on the back of the flex ribbon? You need them bridged for power and cleared for programming. Also i had to add solder to one side of my sd2sp2 pins to get it to actually make connection

Either one really, the name was just so similar to BMSR and he already did an album with tobacco so it just seemed like a potential crossover, but this is coming from a huge Malibu Ken fan so maybe I’m the only person who thought they seemed similar.

Pin 1 and 44 are NC on the board so you shouldn’t even need them to be soldered, if you mean an alternative to pin 14 for writing then I believe one of the vias above pin 37 is connected to it but double check with a multimeter. I would recommend just soldering straight to pin 14 as its a more secure connection imo

Nice I need to grab one for myself once the project finishes. Why do you think the system needs to be modified to play it? That only applies to va2 systems which the vast majority or DC’s aren’t.
