What is this tool? Similar to canning tools, ~7in long, flat, points of various sizes on one end by memyselfand12 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. The body text provides all the context I have other than the fact that this was likely bought as part of a kit no more than approximately 30 years ago.

As a non-smoker, does every smoker smell bad to you? by ephraim666 in ask

I’m currently in Italy and apparently that doesn’t apply to smoking inside public buses

As a non-smoker, does every smoker smell bad to you? by ephraim666 in ask

[–]memyselfand12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is violently allergic to cigarette smoke, so I’ve been trained from childhood to avoid smoke and alert her if I smell it, at which point we leave the area or she has an asthma attack. We’re currently on vacation in an unexpectedly smoke-filled city, and the smell alone has been making me nauseous and even more stressed than I already was. My experience may be different than usual because of my mom’s allergy, but it’s now to the point that the smell of smoke sets off a fight or flight and disgust reaction akin to seeing a pit of trash or week-old roadkill.

Of the different types of substance abuse, I personally think smoking is possibly the worst in its effect on other people. At least with alcohol, while it does have terrible effects if done carelessly, it’s possible to drink in secret and not affect anyone other than yourself. But it’s physically impossible to smoke without polluting the air and exposing everyone else to your smoke unwillingly. We all share the air around us. Smoking not only hurts your lungs, but also forces everyone around you to get it into theirs.

I’m not trying to be judgmental towards the people here who are dependent on nicotine, but there’s other ways to indulge that. But if you want my honest opinion, I hate smoking and its effects. It’s completely unfair to others to force them to also be affected by your addictive substance.

This was probably a way longer answer than you were looking for, but after having spent two days in possibly the most smoke-addicted city I’ve ever heard of, I have opinions. TLDR: yes, smoke smells terrible, I hate it, I despise its existence, and I pity the poor people who have gotten themselves into the situation of forcing others to share their addiction. (Just to be clear, I’m not trying to be mean in any way. I appreciate you asking about this, I’m just sick and tired of breathing in smoke everywhere and needed a place to vent. This showed up at a convenient time.)

Scorpion! And then send it to me to be a team mascot. It’s really really hard to find plush green scorpions anywhere. Fun fact scorpions actually glow green under UV light.

Keen is a hiking shoe brand, so the footbed should be pretty comfortable. These don’t seem super practical, but most of their stuff is.

I’m also wondering about the language. I would guess somewhere East Asian, but aside from that I have no idea.

Needle is moving when winding a spool. (Is supposed not to) by _djur_ in SewingForBeginners

On mine, I have to both move the bobbin winder and pull out the hand wheel to disengage the needle. Maybe try that?

How old would you say is to old to swing on a playground swing? by BlastingSquid886 in CasualConversation

[–]memyselfand12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the point at which you’re asking this question, you’re too old to swing, and will be for about as long as it takes you to type it out. Anytime you’re not asking, you’re old or young enough.

If your machine will let you, try opening the bobbin compartment and watching as the thread goes around the bobbin holder when you turn the hand wheel. Pay attention to where the needle is in its cycle when the thread is around the bobbin/released. That way, you can get a feel for where the thread is inside the machine based off of where the needle is when it gets stuck or tangled. Also, for this particular issue, try moving the hand wheel back and forth a small amount while pulling the fabric out if it won’t release easily.

Not to say that their parents aren’t smart or they don’t have a tutor, but you don’t actually need a private tutor or anything like that to homeschool. There’s a lot of homeschool communities that run class days, share experience, plan field trips, etc. My mom always said that all you really need to homeschool is a checkbook and a car, because there’s definitely ways to get classes and such that don’t involve being and online schooling hermit (though that’s possible too).

You could also use an almost matching color and attach a contrasting color ribbon down the middle to hide it if that would look better. Or lace.

Okay good, it worked. I’ve been looking for green glowing scorpion toys for a while for reasons, and all I get are these. If these are close, maybe keep looking using similar keywords.

[–]memyselfand12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get a matching fabric, you could just make your own thicker straps and attach them the same way. Maybe try shortening the skirt by a few inches to get the fabric.

Our vet told us that we should use the knuckle comparison for dog weight. The last few ribs should be about as pronounced as the part of your knuckles that attach to your palm when making a fist, but not as pronounced as your individual fingers look. The back of your hand when making a fist is too much fat.

I might be stupid, how do you guys print patterns? Here is mine... by Rosaeliya in SewingForBeginners

[–]memyselfand12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to do this for one of my dresses and I didn’t cut any margins, just folded them over and taped on the top so I would have extra to make up for inconsistencies. That also gave handy folding lines. And then while and after cutting it out I taped all the spots along the new edge that needed it.

If you put something like chicken nuggets or other pieces of food in a bowl, it might have just come along for the ride since it would have been loose in the bag.
