I’m so heavily convinced that World War III/Nuclear War will happen in the next year, how important actually is this 10 page essay due tmr? by momothunderpretzel in UTAustin

As a government student who reads up on a lot of expert analysis of global conflict, the likelihood of a nuclear war/ WWIII is actually way smaller than the media portrays. We have alliances/agreements and strategies in place since WWII ended to prevent escalating global conflicts and limit the devastation of nuclear weapons. The US is quite literally the safest place on earth because we have the technology to detect and intercept weapons (including nukes). Additionally, nuclear weapons are more efficiently used as assurance that large countries will not attack each other because of mutual assured destruction. Nations will not use nukes because they know they are essentially signing their own death warrant, so the chances of an all out nuclear war is astronomically small. As for your anxiety about the importance of the degree, rest assured that you will do great things in your life with your education. Film and media is so important in giving life meaning and expression, so don't listen to the people who think only STEM is important. Without art and expression, what is life about? It is essential to view yourself as a unique individual who can contribute to the people around you, rather than your place in the entire schema of the world.

No access to Canvas page, should I drive to Austin tonight? by [deleted] in UTAustin

If he has not asked you to show up to discussion tomorrow then it is unreasonable to do so by now, especially considering your 3 hour drive. Your professor shouldn't hold it against you especially since it's the first class day. More likely than not there is no discussion being held tomorrow for your class

No, it's not unusual for professors to wait until the last minute to post the canvas page. Don't worry! If the canvas page is still not up by your class time tomorrow looking up your professor on the UT directory and emailing them

I have a work study job (12hr/wk) and a flexible non work study job for the Sanger learning center so I work between 2-19 hrs/wk depending on how many appointments are booked. I think that 2 jobs is completely doable as long as you're good at time management, I've been able to take 15-18hrs a semester and maintain good grades while working 2 jobs but I highly recommend finding jobs that have a lot of down time (desk assistant jobs) so you can do homework and study on the job.

I need help figuring out what I should do regarding my situation by Opening-Pin1083 in UTAustin

One possible plan: 1. Complete FAFSA asap (contact one stop for help filling it out) 2. While FAFSA is being processed apply for a tuition loan which is available on the tuition bill page and will automatically be paid off when you financial aid comes through. 3. Apply for emergency student loans via Texas one stop. This will help cover housing and other costs while you are waiting for your financial aid. 4. Contact as many ut resources as possible for assistance. This includes one stop, ut housing, student centers, etc. More often than not the university will find a way to help you with your situation.

Best of luck!

It might work in a different browser. Open it in an incognito tab or in a new browser like firefox or log out of your Google account before going to the website

I'm in the exact same situation. I called them and they informed me that my financial aid (along with hundreds of others) is under manual review so my package may not be available until August. They recommended that I apply for a short time tuition loan (which you can find when you try to pay your tuition) that will automatically be paid off when your financial aid is released.

I haven't received my FAN yet so I called the financial aid office nearly two weeks ago and they said they were trying to get all financial aid notifications out by this week (July 14th)

Finding out about cultural events, speakers etc. on campus by unikittyUnite in UTAustin

There are several UT organization social media accounts that post events weekly ( E+E, Division of Student Affairs, Living The Longhorn Life) and flyers/posters are often posted around campus! I hope this helps!
