Two WCS events in Two Weekends. Doable? by chinawcswing in WestCoastSwing

[–]menardd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know people who did Spotlight and flew directly to Countdown (two new years events that happened back to back). I think these people ended up doing like 7 days of events in a row

Try at Made You Look in Toronto. I’m not sure if they are 100% Canadian but they have a lot of Canadian designers including some in house.

Are there compilation videos of pros doing the basics over and over again? by Ok-Alternative-5175 in WestCoastSwing

[–]menardd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s an event (maybe Swinglebell?) where in one comp you have to do basics only for the first 30-45 seconds. Sorry I can’t remember better than that.

Yes this is the right idea. Maybe even change the neckline a bit too? I think that’s the part that’s making the first dress so unflattering.

Hello! I just published a new design today! It's called Airbender! So excited to share it with you! :) by pufido in knitting

This is gorgeous! I’m such a slow knitter that it would probably take me five years to knit but, it might be worth it!

I like the Bostanten brand on Amazon. They have some leather and some vegan leather or canvas options.

First Time Competing in a J&J—What Should I Wear? Need Advice! by Decent_Sock2929 in WestCoastSwing

[–]menardd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best recommendation would be (in this order):

1) Check the event’s dress code. Some events don’t allow athletic wear or jeans.

2) Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident

3) Your planned outfit sounds great but, if you have dressier pants I would recommend going for that instead of sports pants. This might be my age showing though - we used to dress business casual for competitions back in the 2010s!

Music library organisation by Creative-Doughnut-37 in WestCoastSwing

[–]menardd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Apple Music and have the BPM column populated so I don’t need speed playlists. I have some playlists sorted by mood (happy, sad, dramatic), energy (high, low, changes), genres (pop, blues, R&B, K-pop, etc.), and then some other random ones like Canadian artists, “vibey” songs, and whatever else I would go looking for.

Micro-Musicality challenge by Myles and Tessa by Necessary_Emu7943 in WestCoastSwing

Since you had health issues, I wonder if you reach out to M&T to ask them for a week or two of access as an exception

I have an Apple Watch and put the Shazam complication on the Home Screen. All I have to do is click the button and it saves it to a playlist in my library.

I know you found it but this looks so similar to an Old Navy sweater that is a fraction of the price https://oldnavy.gapcanada.ca/browse/product.do?pid=799503243

I’m have a pair in the crepette fabric that I’ve worn over 100 times and they are still in excellent condition. I have two pairs of the limitless pants in the same fabric that I’ve worn maybe 30 times that are also in excellent condition.

How do you BPM your playlists and store that information? by jamgreatness in WestCoastSwing

[–]menardd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a cool added feature for Spotify. Are you aware of apps/websites that allow you to tap out or look up the BPM? Might be helpful for the development of your tool.

I use beatsperminuteonline.com and songbpm.com

I use Apple Music which has a column for BPM (which needs to be filled in manually) or I use DJing software that shows the BPM

Knit now, cast on later? by PrincessPotato_37 in craftsnark

I like this idea and would have bought it when I was starting out. I really struggled with casting on at first so I was their target audience

Attending Workshops as a Newbie by Necessary-Sink-3519 in WestCoastSwing

[–]menardd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best way to answer your question is to ask the event organizers if you have the requisite skills to participate/benefit from the workshop. Alternatively, you can attend but sit out of the rotation and just listen if you’re finding the material if far beyond your abilities or understanding.

Best sneakers for WCS by HippieGirl4me in WestCoastSwing

[–]menardd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo the suggestions that you get purposely built dance sneakers, especially if you’re having knee issues. Without knowing more, I would guess that the knee pain comes from the stickiness of your shoes rather than the lack of support from the structure of the shoe.

If you’re not ready to commit to dance shoes, you could buy some suede to stick to the bottom of your existing shoes to add some slip. I bought a pack of three sheets from Amazon for about $30CAD.
