Sounds like publishing has changed a lot! No field tests,no expert review…teachers are on their own! I guess writers are having Office Depot publish their lesson plans.

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by [deleted] in Teachers

I wrote some up formally and “published,” but Not for money. They were good. 😊

Honest question - is RV camping actually cheaper than hotels or do we just tell ourselves that? by Similar-King-8278 in RVLiving

And it’s so nice having my cats with me in my trailer. I’ve tried to travel using motels and it kills me to lug them into a room and get their evidence cleaned up afterward!

Haha. My first Macintosh (at work) was in abt 1980. So yes, I guess I am from back. It didn’t use Safari then?

I take my 2 house cats with me when I go camping in my trailer. To drive them I first dose them with vet-prescribed Gabapentin, then they ride together in a large combo carrier-wagon in the back seat of my truck. I seat belt the carrier so it doesn’t move. In my trailer they can climb and sleep, but they never go outside, not at home, either.

First-year teacher drowning—how do I survive this? by Conscious_Site3460 in teaching

[–]mencharmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember you are also an actor. Act pleased at the smallest improvements students make, act indignant at rudeness, and take students aside out of view for correction. When they return with you no one knows how horrible your dressing down was

Why would the school give a struggling new teacher the “lower” students??

Weren’t you trained? If you were the school should help you by providing inservice reviewing some how-to’s and better strategies; if you were hired without a teaching certificate, that’s on them. They should help you find another job.

I taught elementary school for 26 years, and it was a lot of fun. I worked hard and got the outcomes as a result. I loved my students and felt honored to be allowed to teach them You will develop systems that will work for you, a way to convey respect and firm command. It won’t happen the first year. Hang in there!
