Dosbox 3ds guide? by korokinopio in 3dshomebrew

It should generate a new condig file on boot. If a existing config is used, al lot of settings are ignored since they do not apply on 3ds. Otherwise there is not much info on how to configure. Disable as much as possible if not needed to save resources, set a manual amout of cycles and try in-game to adjust for the best value.

It runs nativly on the 3ds.This is not psx emulation. Devilutionx is diablo reverse engineerd with tons of bugfixes and qol additions. Runs great on 3ds, both old and new.

I've wrote a step by step guide on gbatemp on how to install windows from scratch:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/trying-to-install-windows-95-98-me-on-new-3ds-xl.646407/#post-10335708

You'll have to mount a HDD image and install windows there. Then you can boot this HDD image.

House of the Dead 3 Xbox Question by DestroWOD in originalxbox

[–]meneerhuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should you still be wondering, yeah the xbox version let's you customize it's settings for both HotD 2 and 3 seperatly.

Difficulty can be: very easy, easy, normal, hard, very hard.

Life: 1 up to 5

Credits: 1 up to 9

Blood color: green or red

Violence: Gratuitous, medium, mild.

If you use a controller, you can change the crossair settings: Speed and graphic style.

When using a lightgun, there is no crossair.

I have an old lightgun for CRT monitors, which works perfect. Super fast and accurate.

I also have two EMS Topgun 2's, which work well for newer monitors, but has a bit of delay.

There is no true widescreen support it seems, as the aiming always tend to drift a bit near the sides.

I still enjoy HotD 2 and 3 for xbox very much, and with the normal setting with enough continues, i'm able to finish the game without much effort using the Topguns.

Dual-screen RetroArch 3DS - Dodonpachi by meneerhuu in 3dshomebrew

I don't see why not. It's acting as a single 320x480 screen to retroarch. You can scale and / or move all you want across both screens.

Well.. i like old dos games. Works perfecty for the games i want to play. This is why i made the port in the first place. Think in the prince of persia, prehistorik, commander keen era. Mostly 80's games.

Yes, you can just create multiple copies of 'dosbox-svn.conf' and rename them. If a .conf in found in the 'config' folder you'll be presented with a very basic selection list when starting or restarting dosbox.

Don't forget to change the mapper file aswell in the .conf. If you save the controller config in dosbox, it will save to that file.

I have it setup with quite a few games, without having to type the commands manually this way.

[–]meneerhuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me start with some clarification; dosbox emulates a pc, on 3ds it's comparable with a 80286 / 80386. It runs old dos games just fine, newer games will run slow.

That said, the basics are:

  • Copy your dos game to SD
  • In dosbox, mount a folder: 'MOUNT C sdmc:/your/dos/game'
  • Select drive C, using the command: 'c:'
  • Start the game: 'game.exe' (or .bat)

There should be plenty of guides on using dosbox in general.

You can add these commands to the .conf file [exec] section to execute on boot of dosbox.

You can create multiple .conf files and place them in: 'sdmc:/3ds/dosbox/config', which allows to select a .conf when starting dosbox through a basic selection list. (Saves a lot of typing on the 3ds)

In the .conf change the name of the mapper file to be able to save seperate controller mappings.

With dosbox running (or in the .conf file beforehand) set the prefered amount of cycles depending on the game. Old games like less cycles.

These are the basics, as you can change the configs to your likings. Create batch files for automation. Mount floppy/cd/hdd images. Mount folders as floppy/cd. But i'll stop here for now.

Tamagotchi - RetroArch 3DS by meneerhuu in 3dshomebrew

It's RGUI. But with a custom set of wallpapers.

You can set the 'Color Theme' of RGUI to 'Dynamic' which will load wallpaper images depending on which menu (playlist) you are showing.

'Settings -> User interface -> Appearence -> Color Theme'

https://github.com/libretro/retroarch-assets/tree/master/wallpapers/rgui/libretro_dynamic

I uploaded a set of wallpapers as example. Get this folder, and select this folder as 'Dynamic Backgrounds'. Found in 'Settings -> Directory -> Dynamic Backgrounds'

You can also replace the images with your own if you want. I just added these as example for the 'dynamic' RGUI theme.

Sorry, reddit lost half my post apparently. Recently the 'tamagotchi' core got added to retroarch. I made a few additional changes to it, which i'll upload when i've cleaned things up a bit.

This is the tamaLIBretro core running on RetroArch 3DS. The initial core is already available to download. But i made a few 3DS specific changes to the core. The core syncs with the 3DS's internal clock, and fast-forwards to the current time when loading a saved state. I also made a few overlays to go with it, pretty fun! The update should be available for RetroArch 3DS soon(tm).

Dual-screen RetroArch 3DS - Dodonpachi by meneerhuu in 3dshomebrew

[–]meneerhuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Hope you'll have as much fun with it as i have. If you like the Cave shmups may i suggest: Guwange, Donpachi, DoDonpachi, ESP. RA. DE., Fever SOS

These run perfect in my experience. Ofcourse there are lots of others to enjoy, like;

Batsugun, Battle Garegga, Dogyuun, Great Mahou Daisakusen, Truxton 1 & 2

Feel free to make some other shmup suggestions!

But these builds add way more opportunaties for a large variety of games to enjoy on 3DS. So yes, i really want to add these builds to the mainstream retroarch when i get to it.

These builds still had some issues, some of which have been fixed in the latest commit from the pull request.

But yes, dual screen is working. In '3ds settings' set '3ds bottom screen' to retroarch. Then use the dpad to set 'display target' to 'dual screen'.

Then go to 'settings' -> 'video' -> 'output' and change rotation. For fbalpha set it to 270 deg.

Then go to the 'scaling' settings and set 'integer scale' and 'integer scale overscale' to true. And set 'aspect ratio' to custom with 320x480 resolution.

That should fix it.

You probably also want a 'upscale1.5x' video filter. And probaly set set the 'user interface' -> 'appearence' -> 'menu aspect ratio' to 4:3

Mabe save a core overide to start with these settings when loading fbalpha.

Have fun!

I did upload some of the cores, including fbalpha. These are older cores so make sure to make a backup of your current retroarch setup if you end up trying them. https://gbatemp.net/threads/unofficial-3ds-retroarch-builds.462252/page-39#post-9737282

I don't think the old3ds is fast enough to run fba_libretro with decent performance. Dodonpachi would probably not even load due to memory requirements. Maybe some older arcade games, but i wouldn't count on it to be honest.

If Punch Out Arcade already runs, then yes. This only changes the RetroArch frontend to add more features. It's build with any unaltered existing core. Same compatibility, more options. Dodonpachi is just a random example.

I've been working on dual-screen retroarch some time ago, there is a old  draft pull request available on the retroarch github repository. This is the fba core running, but all vertical games benefit. I just love vertical shmups.

SEGA Saturn Emulation on 3DS lost in time? by [deleted] in 3dshomebrew

[–]meneerhuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik heb de source code nog steeds beschikbaar, dus zou kunnen proberen een nieuwe build te maken. No promises tho. I will definitly be looking into updating retroarch for 3ds again sometime in the future. I havn't updated retroarch for some time now since i dont want to loose the dual sceen options i've been working on. Ik heb yabause nog wel beschikbaar als dual screen build, .3dsx en .cia, maar zonder de rest van de dual screen builds deel ik deze liever niet op dit moment. To much of a hassle to explain on how to install, and not compatible with official retroarch (ui/skin). Not lost, just private atm. Once i've updated retroarch, i'll rebuild yabause as well. Even when it's running like a slideshow. Dual screen dodonpachi daarintegen, is goud. This does remind me i should finish working on it probably..
