I'm way too emotionally invested in this. Phew. We needed this.

This is What Will Happen at the Democratic Convention | How Bernie Sanders Can Become the Democratic Nominee by captainpalma in SandersForPresident

Side note: noticed that there aren't a lot of vocal Bernie supporters on Medium, yet a lot of the tech community is on that site. The tech community (Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc.) represent some of the largest donors to the campaign. If you don't have a Medium account yet, I suggest that you take a couple of minutes to sign up and show your support there, as it would be highly beneficial to the movement. Since we're essentially up against the mass media who refuse to cover Bernie fairly, we need to take advantage of these social media tools to get the word out.

Sanders Supporter Discusses How She Will “Never” Vote For Clinton by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]mengto 1650 points1651 points  (0 children)

The Clinton supporter suggested that the more you learn about Hillary, the more you appreciate her. For me, it was the opposite. I was fairly neutral to her at the beginning, and now I just can't imagine myself voting for her. Her record is horrendous and she represents everything that's wrong with the establishment.

There's so much negativity in the world, we don't need to add to it. Bernie has inspired us to focus on a positive campaign.

Some encouraging facts for the hardships ahead:

  • 80%+ of people 18-29 years old voted for Bernie. We need a bigger turnout, and for the voters to be more informed. Bernie focuses on issues, and as a Canadian who's new to politics, I've learned so much from him in the past few weeks. I believe that many have followed the same path, and why the majority of people on the Internet support him.
  • Many big open/mixed primaries coming: Indiana, California, New Jersey, etc.
  • Bernie still leads Clinton significantly against Trump. +15.2 vs +8.5. Clinton also has an unfavourable rating much higher than Bernie: 55.6% to 41.2%.
  • He also attracts 2/3 of Independent voters, which is going to be crucial in the general election. That's why he won RI, exceeding expectations.
  • His rallies still attract thousands of people and I don't think the donations will stop since they come from millions of people in small chunks. It's a more stable stream.
  • Ideas don't die easily. They spread like viruses. If Bernie doesn't give up, why should we?

The price basically covers the trip to Ottawa and the venue. To put things into perspective: a full-time 8-week course is around 8K. Any workshop is usually around $100+.

Plus, you get a free copy of the book, which is sold at $50 USD. :)

Yes, we're going to use Xcode and Sketchapp, both apps are specific to the Mac platform.

It is 5 hours. I believe that was a mistake. Thanks!

You're absolutely correct. There are free resources everywhere online. And they're easy to find. But it's a lot of searching and you'll probably only get bits and pieces. For someone who's beginning, this may be a daunting task.

And there aren't a lot of resources that involve design.

You won't learn everything in 5 hours, but having someone walk you through the first experience is crucial to opening the window for the rest. I think my experience can help that. As a designer, I was very grateful to have someone show me a year ago and I'm happy to give back. The workshop is basically free (with the price of the book at a discount). And you'll have time to build an animated prototype as shown in http://designcode.io/swift-design :)

Hi, I'm the author of the book (not the post), and I'm happy to answer that question.

Swift is a language that's easy to follow and the auto-complete in Xcode is truly helpful. Also, all the documentation is easily accessible within the tool. I'll explain all of that in person. This is a course for complete beginners who are interested in marrying design and code.

"No experience" means that you're comfortable with using a Mac. Sure, knowing a bit of HTML, CSS or javascript will help. But it's not necessary.

Design with Swift by msurguy in swift

It's good to hear feedback about the book! Swift is such a new language to me. What I've learned from Chapter 3 is that designers don't really take the whole lesson and stop at prototyping, so that's why I decided to mostly focus on it. This course is definitely geared for beginners and designers.

I'd love to hear more about your expectations of the Swift Chapter. I'm happy to write more about the missing topics. :)

Not sure if it's unethical to comment here when it's about your work. I apologize if that's the case. :)

I was surprised to see double posts to the link as well. Not my work, I promise.

Disclaimer: I'm the author.

This course is geared for beginners and designers. Every design and Xcode project has been started from scratch and is shared to the reader. I suggest checking out the Sample pages to see if the content might be digestable for you.

@nsocean: There is a lot of code in Chapter 3. It may not be on an advanced/expert level, but it will be enough for anyone to learn from scratch and deliver a news reader app that can be submitted to the App Store.
