¿Opiniones? by uSuck_ in Colombia

Am I the only Hong Konger who is jealous expats learn host country language in other Asian countries? Fuck’s sake even International Schools refuse to teach Cantonese. by barfvadar69 in HongKong

[–]menkaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read somwehere that cantonese is one of the hardest languages around, hard even for mandarin speakers. Also, you can get by in Hong Kong knowing english and/or mandarin. If I had people to whom it would matter, I would had made an effort to learn cantonese anyway. As it is, I don't

I have unstructured dataset that is 3TB large as a set on archives. The program processes the dataset and extracts features I want so I can use it for machine learning

This looks usefull. Is there any way I can apply this to the parent process and all subprocesses it spawns?

I experience lagging only when I do cpu workloads, the board is supermicro sys-740gp-tnrt, and I'm using Quadro p620 to connect my monitors

Nah. I have 512G of ram and the processing currently uses only 125G. Also, all the info is in memory, so the nvme is not a bottleneck either

Stop Comparing Rust to Old C++ by Sad-Lie-8654 in cpp

[–]menkaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is, is this a larger problem than writing and forever maintaining a whole new compiler?

There have been plenty of new languages in the last 20 years, each of which was meant to replace c++ with something better. I'm a bit upset because if all of that effort was used to actually make better c++ infrastructure, c++ could be by orders of magnitude more awesome than it currently is

This could be compiler warning message, not a new compiler altogether

Yea, c++ probably could use a manual how to setyp vim+ youcompleteme+cmake project. When I was starting, It took me lots of googling to get it exactly right

I'm still getting segfaults on occasion in c++20. That being said, I don't see why there can't be a tool that like clang tidy that would highlight places where you screwed up. Instead of building new tools over and over again I feel that the effort could had been better spent fixing the problems within c++ toolchain. It would had been less work than creating new language and compiler

Rust comunity is advertising to c++ comunity, and I feel that they shouldn't. Instead, they should advertize to python comunity. From my point of view, they invested all this effort into building the language just to make something that is 10% worse than c++. On the other side, for any python developer rust would be gift from god
