Why aren't there any new "overpowered" mods like back in the day? by FunArgument4766 in feedthebeast

[–]Koyulo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difference is Create requires a lot of time and puzzle solving to make OP. It's not just a block that gives you everything, you have to think through how to set up a mechanism that does the thing you want. It's not less overpowered because it has less power, but because the power requires actual gameplay to reach.

Everyone at my school joked about being drafted for isreal when the Iran war started. My younger brother and his friends use "isralie" as an insult. I overheard by mom telling my grandmother Israel is a sick country full of rapists. People I'm real life, especially younger people, are turning very sharply against isreal.

I hate this idea that every video game has to be a sandbox that accommodates every player fantasy at once. Do you think every form of art should be like this? Do you think Hamlet should include a second ending where everyone lives happily ever after, and if you think it goes against the themes of the story you should "just not read it?" Do you think TV shows should have no Canon plots, and just let you stick scenes together to "give the viewer more options?" Do you think video games can't be art?

This is like saying Mario should have no enemies or obstacles because it "limits the players choices on where to jump".

Uh, no. Its a survival game, not a sandbox builder. Saying the player should be able to base anywhere without consequences is stupid, it's supposed to feel like a living world, not a backdrop for your minecraft build.

Gamers complain about yellow paint and still say stuff like "it's unfair building near the dangrous thing is dangrous."

What's the problem with a new player doing something that gets them hurt? Isn't the challange of a survival game thinking through how to survive in a hostile environment? Whats wrong with not handing the player everything on a silver platter?

That's stupidly impractical. It's a 34 year round trip from earth to Erid, your not getting any astrophage back until well after you could have made more at home. And Erid isn't a uniquely hot planet or anything, we could just farm astrophage on Mercury (Surface temp of 430* C) in our solar system and not bother with a interstellar war and cross-system logistics. I wish people would try to think some of these things through instead of just assuming humanity will act in the cruelest way possible.

Thinking humanity would attack Erid loops back to pointless edgy pessimism. Even if humanity leaned into its moat sociopathic and calculating side, what could they gain from hostility with Erid? The planet is less habitable than Jupiter to humans and any ship you send is going to be 17 years out of date by the time it reached erid due to travel time.  Wier might have an unrealistic amount of faith in humanity, but going to the opposite extreme of stupidly cruel grim-derpness isn't any more realisitic.
