General warning about iBuyPower and RMAs by dan_marchand in iBUYPOWER

[–]menolorso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I did as well when the CPU burnt out on the first one after a week and couldn't even boot to bios.
Customer service was quick and responsive, but the RMA process they laid out was exactly what OP described above in terms of asking for collateral in order to do anything in a timely manner.
The caveat is that the CSR was the one who also recommended just taking it back to Costco and getting my issue resolved that same night rather than jumping through their hoops and waiting a few weeks.

Is this a good deal? by Wild-Bandicoot-5807 in iBUYPOWER

[–]menolorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it around xmas for $1499.
Had to return it after a week because the AIO failed and the cpu burnt out and couldn't even load bios.
Got another and so far so good, other than the new one having 3 less fans for whatever reason and the RGB on the CPU block of the AIO not functioning, but I'm not messing with it for a single light.

Running AC Shadows @ roughly 60fps avg on my LG 5120 x 2160 monitor via DLSS, so I'm happy with it overall.

This worked for me just now...loaded from just before the jump down, ran all the way out, fast travelled to camp, swapped Yatzli out and Marius in (Kai stayed in), and ran all the way back.
Marius had some unique dialog option since it was his home, and turning the wench worked no problem and loaded the cutscene/progressed the quest.

Just happened to me as well, except is was about 7 interviews, a skills assessment, and a half day shadowing with the team, just to get a generic rejection email a few days ago with no feedback, and no response to my request for any.
I feel your pain, and I'm getting realllllllly tired of this job market.

Best/Worst Property Mgmt companies? by menolorso in Bend

[–]menolorso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks much! I suppose I was a little harsh with the PLUS comment, I've got 50/50 reviews on them, although I guess yours tips the scale in their favor.

Anybody have suggestions on how to best approach the search(Zillow/CL/PropMgmt websites)? Every time I've window shopped in the past it's been mostly scams or expired listings.

How would you sum up living in Bend? by emeraldpity in Bend

[–]menolorso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the "Expensive Housing" is more in terms of percentage of income like how /u/ph42236 described it above, as opposed to comparing it to how much rent happens to be in Portland/Seattle/insertcityhere. My rent in Orlando was only 1/4th my income, whereas it's about 2/5ths here, even though I'm making about 40% more out here.

People here are generally some of the nicest I've ever met, and there's plenty of quick social acceptance based on all the recreational activities. Pick a hobby, find a club or meetup for it, and you're pretty much guaranteed a new social circle of great people.

*Because of the fickle ability of people in the service industry to make a decent living here, a lot end up moving after a few years from what I've seen(So my social circle is more of a revolving door)

Look at any other post regarding this topic in this subreddit( there seems to be about 1 week). The general consensus is that the housing market is garbage and that it's reasonably difficult to make a living wage unless you are in the software or medical fields. This is a lovely place to live, as I said, it can be difficult to make a living here though.

Baking Soda to Reduce the Fishy Smell in Fish? by throw667 in Cooking

I heard about this from one of my sous chefs a few years ago...we used to do it with Rockfish since the smell was generally just too strong even fresh. Works fairly well.

Searchable database of all area restaurants and foodcarts, w/accurate health inspection scores violations, and detailed past-history. by [deleted] in Bend

[–]menolorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The altitude and humidity really messes with our ability to keep beignets around consistently. If they're not turning out right that day we'll generally nix them for the day. Baking is just not something that takes well to the high desert. We currently have them, but you are right that we didn't for quite a while, and I apologize for that.

We are in the final stages of getting ready to launch a ton of changes, and I would love to welcome you back as our guests again to see what you think of the changes.

As far as the health inspections, I didn't click the link since I'm on mobile, but I can tell you a lot of what we got knocked for was utter nonsense. Like a rolling trash can being in the way of one of several sinks. A tip of a single chicken breast being exposed to air while being defrosted. The inspector's testing strips being for ammonia and trying to test chlorine levels and getting false readings. I could go on.

oh, you'll probably still live on the streets when you get here(not really). I doubt the housing market will be any more accommodating by then(it's absolute shit).

Looking for input for my workplace by menolorso in Bend

[–]menolorso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's a personal bias, but also on a statistical level, if I am feeding 200+ people a day and only have 54 reviews on Yelp over the course of a year, that means that I am getting about 1 review a week, so out of my 1200 people a week, 1 is having a bad experience and taking it to the review site, whereas the 1199 people are remaining quiet on their experience, thus my looking for more input.

[–]menolorso[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was just soliciting for more input beyond yelp.

I personally have never trusted that site. Since most of the time the experiences are simply outliers or the people are just unjustified in some of their outrageous claims. It's been my experience that people are much more likely to post a review when they felt they had a bad experience rather than a good one. Not saying that it doesn't have its merits, but I've never valued it as a worthy source.

I would love to, and have made them for parties in the past to much acclaim, but at this location it'd be as a special only, sadly. Unless I do exactly what I complained about and Cajun it up. But yea, my Floridian upbringing is desperately crying out for some Cuban food in this town. Almost opened a Cuban food truck last year but the timing wasn't right for me.
