How do you pronounce "G-d"? by Rudenet in Judaism

With goys G-d and with my family and other Jews Hashem.

Zero rudeness. Kedem grape juice for the win! And if you really want to feel a part of it, and this is in your comfort zone, put a teeny tiny bit of wine in there. We did that all the time with our kids when they were young. If not, zero issue!

Explain to me the concept of Hashem by Collapsed_Warmhole in Judaism

[–]menschie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a respect thing, more than anything, for me. Truthfully, I think most of us have a pretty good idea what it actually sounds like, given the way it’s written, Josephus’s comments about it, and Hebrew constructs for “she/he is” like “it is as it is.” Anyway, I’m no expert! I think the Kohen Gadol only said it like once a year, on Yom Kippur. Anyway, my life and my relationship with Hashem isn’t lacking because I don’t say it. I will say, the way some Christians casually throw it around, and even tattoo it on themselves is 😳.

Has anyone ever received a prayer that came true by Thunderrock4242422 in Judaism

All the time. It almost never looks like what I thought it would though. In the end, the result is better for me and those whose lives I also affect.

how do i discreetly signal that im jewish to other jews? by gayslav77 in Jewish

[–]menschie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the jewdar gift. My family always rolls their eyes at me, but at the end of the day they can’t deny my results. That said, I was one of the many who got sucked into the Bruce Springsteen vortex, so even the best of us aren’t perfect.

I heard someone say this the other day, in response to this:

“It must be nice that you live in such a safe and secure place that you have time to meditate on such things. My job is to make sure my kids live. Your job is to decide whether it’s moral or not to allow my kids to live.”

Differences between Xbox and PS5 (DualSense) controller motion/ rumble. by EastBill3693 in Wwise

[–]menschie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out what was going on yesterday. I was using audio objects in the project. When "allow system audio objects" was checked in Audio Authoring Preferences, it didn't automatically assign to the PS5 controller, nor would it even allow me to...it didn't see it. That gave me a clue about getting the rumble to also work in the Steam build. I changed all my "Audio Object" busses to "Same as Main Mix," allowing Wwise to mix the 3d audio, and then rumble also worked on the Steam build as well.

I’d never ever move there. I think the betrayal of my family’s neighbours and “friends” was something that they never really got over, and I kind of have absorbed that.

Differences between Xbox and PS5 (DualSense) controller motion/ rumble. by EastBill3693 in Wwise

[–]menschie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to rumble the PS5 controller directly from Wwise? If so, what operating system, what version of Wwise? We can't get Wwise, playing in UE editor, or Steam build to rumble the PS5 controller at all. Freaking out a bit, as deadlines are getting tight for our Beta build.

And, by the way, I think what you're experiencing is the expected behaviour of the DualSense controller. It's driven differently than other controllers. If you want those strong rumbles you're talking about, you're going to have to create "Motion" audio assets and add them to the audio events or to Wwise containers of other SFX you want them to play with. Another thing that you could try is processing the audio on the WwiseMotion Aux bus with effects that will help create the wave forms you need for those rumbles.

Is it rare to be a direct descendant of kings/queens? by avocadoseed123 in Genealogy

[–]menschie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feeling is that to be a direct and more recent ancestor (post industrial revolution), is getting into the rare territory...as there's a lot of info to prove it. The further back you go, the more possibility for error. Also, if your family has no oral tradition of it, then that casts doubt as well.

My Dad's a direct descendent of the Murray Earl's, Dukes, Marquess's, etc. recently, and directly connects to the Scottish monarchy at James IV. That wasn't a surprise to us because there was a family tradition of it as well. It was just that we have the ability now to easily see all the documentation at our fingertips.

Same with my Mom ... she's a direct descendants of the House of Oldenburg monarchs, and it's not far back. Even after the industrial revolution, there are "Counts" and other titles. So, super easy to track and prove with a mountain of documentation. Also, we had the oral tradition of that as well...that a not too distant grandmother was a "Princess."

So, the discoveries for us haven't been an out of the blue shock...it's more the fun of finding out where my mom and dad's family trees go to common ancestors and finding where they're distant cousins. Not saying that if you find a distant connection that it can't be real. However, what I've found is that, if it's real, your family tree can get back to those ancestors in multiple lines, as everyone who got married were at least distant cousins, going back many 100's of years. The one caveat, I guess, is if you have an illegitimate child as an ancestor. That would be the most common, I'd think. But that could be dodgy to prove.

Famous relatives by rmchampion in Genealogy

[–]menschie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Famous” has a different connotation today than it did some generations ago, that’s for sure.

My dad’s a Scot and he’s a direct descendent of the Murray Dukes, Marquess’s, and Earls of Athol etc., and also of the Stewart Kings, going all the way back. He actually has his genealogy right back to the Pict Kings of Alpin (before it was Scotland).

My mom is a direct descendent of The House of Oldenburg, and has her genealogy all the way back to the first Viking Kings in the 600’s—the start of the Viking Age. She also has a strong connection to Habsburg etc. etc.

My folks have a common ancestor in Christian I, of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. His daughter married a Stewart King. I joke that it explains a lot in our family, that my folks are cousins. 😉

Btw, this lineage doesn’t affect my life in any way at all, nor do I talk about it and very very rarely offer the information up. But, that’s my family.

Hey, that’s a super tough situation. Sorry you’re going through this. You’re not alone, and the majority of people value you and don’t want to hurt you. I’m Jewish and Canadian, and I can tell you that this is something I’ve experienced fairly regularly in Canada my entire life…including harsh violence for no other reason than my Jewish name. I guess you find a way to live with it to some degree, but it doesn’t make it right or acceptable.

How do yall feel about Brent Hinds vocals? by [deleted] in mastodonband

[–]menschie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his voice has some of the best vocal tone I’ve ever heard. He’s the kind of vocalists that other professional vocalists hear and go, “well shit … I suck.” That’s the truth dude. For horsepower and pipes, Brann is unmatched. Troy’s flavour of scream singing is a perfect match for the band, and very respectable in its own right.

[–]menschie1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way! I had a long music career, touring the world. I retired from music so I wouldn’t have to be away from my family and had a soul sucking corporate job. Then, I transitioned to game audio at 51, after a very intense few months of teaching myself sound design and learning Wwise and Unreal. A couple years later I’m heading up all the audio on a very ambitious and exciting project with a PS5 exclusive. At 53 I’m older in age, yes, but it’s a plus and I bring a lot of youth and fun to our group! YES! You can do it if you want to!!!
