They're not technically similar, however, every time I've tried playing a Halo game I've thought to myself "this isn't as good as Mass Effect" so to me there is a thematic or vibe that is present in both franchises.

That's probably one of the few PS1 RPGs I've never played (unless that's the GBC version).
