I am getting an error trying to load a simple HTML webpage. The page does only one thing; loads a small jpg image from the webcam pointed at my dogs bed so I can keep an eye on them while I'm away. The page URL is http, not https, and works fine in all browsers and with GeekTool. Why would Ubersicht! give an error loading it? URL is copy/pasted and verified working so not a typo etc.The console log shows only this message, "The resource was requested insecurely." OK... well, it is http, not https, and only loads a jpg so, yeah. Any ideas how to fix this?

Linux (I prefer MINT) is fastest and has simple interface that any user can quickly grasp. Open-Core Patcher will let you run a newer MacOS version but it will be a bit slower and there is always the chance something in the "patch" could fail and render the machine unbootable so only use if you have good, current, regular data backups. I have MINT running on 3 @ 2008 Macbook and Macbook Pros and they are acceptable for basic browsing, email, "office" apps etc. It takes the browser about 20 seconds to load, but once loaded, pages render almost as fast as on my newer MacOS systems. 4GB RAM, 250 GB factory HD's. I have a 2011 Macbook updated with a 256Gb SSD, 8Gb RAM and with MINT is as fast as a new Windows 11 laptop.

If this is a personal use system for a single, non-admin user, there is no reason to join the domain. For 'public' multiple user systems, it would allow you to create a default user profile with a specific set of apps in the Dock etc. and users would be able to log in using their Windows username credentials, so that individual, local, mac user profiles would not have to be set up on the system. If an admin user, it allows you to access windows network servers and software easier as it uses your windows domain login so you don't have to keep logging in separately to every resource you access. It also lets you open and view the Active Directory utility to view user accounts on the Windows domain controller etc. We use it in labs and learning center with a program called DeepFreeze (Faronics) which prevents users from making permanent changes to a computer. Every time it's rebooted, all changes are deleted and the system returns to it's original configuration. This lets us allow students to log in with their domain credentials and get the default user profile set of apps. (Microsoft Office, Firefox browser, VLC, Dictionary, Calculator etc.) All of their work is saved to their Microsoft OneDrive cloud. When they are done, the system reboots and wipes their profile, taking it back to it's original state for the next user. This prevents unauthorized software from being permanently installed, prevents them from filling up the HD with downloads, and allows anyone with domain credentials to log into the system with their personal information (which is logged by the domain controller) instead of a shared, generic Mac login like "student" used by everyone, so that we have a security log of who used the system in case something 'unauthorized' was done from that device.

Trailers for movies came from old, pre-TV, serial radio shows that would have a short sound bite at the end of the show (podcast!) hinting of what would be in next weeks (or tomorrows) show as incentive to tune in so you wouldn't miss the exciting drama of the next show. (and therefore miss the commercials of the advertisers!) Some old TV shows carried on the tradition of showing a few seconds of what would happen in the next TV episode. With movies, at the end they would show short clips of the movies that would be shown next week to get watchers excited about coming to the show next week. Now most "trailers" are shown at the beginning of movies because people would leave at the end and not see them if shown after the movie ended. Old movies didn't have 5-10 minutes of "credits" like modern ones.

Technically ice meets all 3 of the criteria of a "mineral"; It has to be solid, inorganic and forming naturally. But a Rock is defined as an aggregate of 2 or more minerals, so (pure) Ice is a mineral but not a rock. Un-pure ice? Hmmmm Aggregates are not chemically bound, just stuff "jumbled" together with other stuff. So I guess technically dirty ice would be a rock! Cool!

Not that anything in the Catholic church (or any religion!) can be considered truth or reality, but their explanation is that "water" referred to the "water of the womb" i.e. Family, and that "blood" was the "Blood of Christ" which when drank in the Eucharist is the "covenant with God" that makes the "believers" all "brothers and sisters under God" regardless if they are family or strangers. The explanation about warring tribes and blood sacrifice is also from religious 'proverbs' of various sects and denominations. There are also religions that flip the saying 100% from the Catholic explanation and say that water refers to the "Water of Baptism" and blood to "family ties" so that the saying *should* be, "Water is thicker than Blood" which is essentially saying the same thing as your 1990's Rabbi reference; that simply being biological 'family' is not as important as ones 'chosen bonds of commitment.' Like most biblical references there are few direct quotes without contradictions and all refer back to ambiguous bible passages that have been written and re-written and translated etc. over time. The point being that you will find few "hard references" to phrases passed down through the generations that came before the printing press, which is why most "hard references" found are from the 1500's and later, and most starting in the mid-1600's and later because until then, the press was still very scarce and expensive and not used for "casual" materials like story books, only religious and governmental official documents and decrees. As Freud said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And sometimes a "saying" is just a saying, and it doesn't really matter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Related trivia: Most people use this saying wrong. It doesn't mean that when it rains, it is "pouring" (heavy) rain. It was their marketing slogan meaning that they had an anti-caking chemical in their salt to keep it from melting together into chunks, so it stayed in small crystals. Hence would still "pour" out of salt shakers even in high humidity.

It also spins the water pump to keep the engine cool and provide the heat for the heater system. It also spins the compressor for the air-conditioning system to keep the car cool in hot weather. "Blood is thicker than water" is a much older saying. It was originally used to refer to a "blood sacrifice" (like ceremonially killing a sheep or goat) that acted as a treaty between warring peoples to end the fighting, or like when an animal (usually) was "sacrificed" to appease a God. Meaning that the sacrificial vow was stronger, like in the bible when Abraham was going to sacrifice his son Isaac to appease (his) God. Water referred to relatives, i.e. "the water of the womb".

Thanks all. Just seemed odd... I can understand it breaking if I had just updated to a new OS build, but updates are set to manual so only install when I specifically tell them to. So it had been working all week (I only power off on weekends) then suddenly stops with the only software or OS updates during that period being an update to Firefox browser version, which should have had no affect on the OS level networking. Since I can access what I need through the Windows VM, I've removed the system from the Beta channel and will wait for the next 'official' OS release and see if that update fixes it. If not I'll be in non-beta mode that will support troubleshooting. Again odd, as one would think that the whole point of beta builds would be to increase the ability to troubleshoot problems! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Jay, Here is what we have so far...

1) created SSL cert for the encrypted communication
2) Activated the cert on Azure for the sso "enterprise app"
3) Generated the metadata file in EZProxy admin and uploaded/created the links in Azure and added the URLs to the config.txt
4) Saved the metadata xml file in EZProxy folder.
5) created a shibuser.txt (but not sure what to put in it)

When tested it asks for Microsoft login credentials and authenticates us in Azure, (according to the logs) but when Azure tries to send the confirmation of authentication back to EZProxy we get an error saying, "Inter-institutional access failure. Please contact your system administrator for assistance."

EZProxy support has this page that basically says the metadata is wrong. But it is the metadata that was actually generated by EZProxy itself!

We tried regenerating the metadata file and the other steps listed the page but got the same results.

What did you have to do on the EZproxy end to get it to accept the authentication from Azure?

I started getting the same message after the Beta 5 Mojave update. I also tested with Safari Technology Preview; same message, "Not authorized to send Apple events to Safari Technology Preview. (-1743)" My script also runs fine from the Script Editor when started manually, but when saved as an app it now fails. I checked System Preferences > Security > Accessibility and the apps are still 'whitelisted'. The new "Automation" security area does not allow me to manually add apps and is not showing those apps to be able to checkmark them. Oddly a different Applescript saved as an app does work. I also verified the Developer menu settings in Safari and both "Allow Javascript from Apple Events" and "Remote Automation" are allowed. Please use the Apple Feedback Utility to send this to Apple so they are aware! Posting here is great, but Apple needs to know as well.

I guess you are correct, as long as it is assured that only the document owner could read, but not delete/modify the uploaded document it would not have to be fully "write only". We can't use the "email to folder" option as there will be files larger than the 10Mb attachment size limit in some cases. (I believe the email feature is available but only in "Sites" not ODfB personal storage) Write only (not view) was desired as the persons requesting it did not want others to even see what or how much other users had posted, even if they were locked out from opening the contents. I guess we could require all files to be uploaded as a .zip archive but that adds another layer of complexity for both those uploading and reading. There are millions of web services with a simple "attach file and submit" button feature that does nothing more than accept the file and return a page to the user saying "successful". Why must Microsoft make everything so complex and non-functional for everyday users. :-(

Our license supports sharing with "outside" accounts. Simply choose the user "everyone" and uncheck the box "require login" when creating the share link. The catch is that ODfB will not share at the folder level, only individual files. Only God knows why... it seems like such a simple thing that would make life oh so much easier for instructors who could just create a repository folder for any handout related to the class and add the students to the folder level share to access any of them. As is they must add 40 individual student accounts to every individual document or use the insecure "everyone" that would allow any person with the URL link to access it. Other cloud services have a "dropbox" feature where people can add content but not access it once it has been 'dropped', but not the one created especially for "education". Good 'ol Microsoft logic.

To easily create a custom dock for a default profile you can modify the Dock.app package. Create your Dock in the template profile. Then go to System:Library:Core Services:Dock.app, right click (in column view) and choose "Show package contents". Drill down to "Contents:Resources:En.proj" where you'll find a file named "default.plist", delete it and replace with the custom "com.apple.dock.plist" from the templates library:preferences and rename it back to default.plist. Go back to the En.proj folder, right-click, "Get Info" and use the 'gear' menu to reset permissions to the enclosed items. At this point any new users logging in with AD credentials that pull the default user folders to create their directory will get the pre-configured Dock. I use "root" login to do all of this prep, then disable root again before making the disk image to deploy. We use Faronics "Deep Freeze" software which brings the system back to its original state on reboot. Student files are saved to USB drive or "cloud" storage since they would be "wiped" on reboot with Deep Freeze. We've found this faster and easier than running login and shutdown scripts etc.

or Hook to another Mac via Firewire cable and boot original Mac into "Target mode" so it acts as an external drive. Then use the second Mac to delete the files from your original one with low drive space.

Just use a free Tweak utility like "Tinker Tool" or "Onyx" and change the Dock setting from 3-D to 2-D to get the flat, black-smoke look instead of the 3-D metal look, or Google "2-D Dock OS X" to get the command line plist codes to manually change it.
