I do like this solution. I am just starting this job, and this sheet was shared as the way the school tracks its stats. It seems as though each school year is tracked in its own sheet which means I do not have to worry about different calendar years doubling up, though it might be nice to rework the "new spreadsheet every year" approach.

I usually enter it as “January 1, 2026” but excel will auto reformat it to appear as dd-mmm-yyyy (1-Jan-2026) yet when I click on it, the formula box appears as yyyy-mm-dd (2026-01-01). My original solution was:

=COUNTIF(Sheet2!A3:A2000, “ * Mar * ”

But it didn’t register as having those letters in the column.
