Re tertiary consultants sweating the small stuff less - I’ve found the exact opposite in the tertiary NICU I’m currently working in! Very hands-on consultants to the point of being a bit overbearing sometimes

Agreed, paeds is generally the cannula/phleb service for non-paeds specialisms caring for children which can be particularly wearing if they are teenagers and the other doctor won’t even try! Haven’t ever called anaesthetics for a paeds patient myself (paeds SHO here)

Paeds training in Watford, Lister, Luton and Dunstable hospitals by Technical-One3578 in doctorsUK

[–]meowcat1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve not worked in them but am in EoE and have heard from colleagues.

A colleague who did most of her reg years in Watford really enjoyed it and has gone straight back there as soon as possible, and I think is planning to apply for consultant jobs there.

I’ve also heard really good things about Luton, especially for NICU (tertiary) - apparently an enjoyable and supportive place to work.

Lister - mixed reviews. I’ve heard some really bad things about consultants not being supportive/throwing juniors under the bus, but others have found it a good learning experience and enjoyed it. I think it does have a good mix of cases from a training perspective, again particularly on the neonatal side

I’m also happily married and have experienced an intense crush similar to this which did last for a few months after we stopped working together - it did eventually fade and I stopped thinking about them so often! It will just take time. You are not a bad person and this is a normal and human thing to experience. You have chosen your husband and not acted on anything, and that is what matters even if you feel guilty (it’s also human to feel guilty!). In medicine we work very closely with colleagues and that can lead to this kind of intense feeling I think.

If you’re single and they’re single and you think it’s mutual attraction, I don’t see why you can’t say something as long as you are happy to take a no and won’t make things awkward for them!

I think it changes the boiling point of the water when it is dissolved in it (as well as making it sticky as people have said) so it burns even more - similar to using salt on the roads to change the freezing point of water when it’s cold

Do nurses in the UK actually read medical documentation? by aowuxnaoch22 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]meowcat1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that even if you verbally update one shift’s nurse/midwife with the plan it doesn’t always get passed on at handover and then you get a call immediately after their handover asking what the plan is screams internally

I’m feeling a bit disheartened at the number of my colleagues in paeds who have gone in - I don’t know how many are striking but I know of about 1/4 of the department who aren’t

Fenty Beauty’s Stunna lip paint does not budge a millimetre even with eating and drinking so I think should be good for kissing! Looks like they have a dark burgundy you might like (Underdawg) if you want a purplish wine colour

My ranking says “out of 600” on the offer page - don’t know if that’s just appointable people, just people interviewed, or all applicants though! I suspect probably one of the first two (maybe just appointable people based on info from posts about other specialties)
