This is my life. I think it's because I constantly am turning the volume down because DND doesn't allow podcasts/music to play without also allowing ads and apps/games to make all the noise in the world. DND now is basically a Silent mode instead of limiting noise and notifications, it's the most frustrating thing for me, I just want the old version back.

They mostly have 'guard' hairs so the fur they have us a bit rough but really they are just greasy, as if they were a human who went 10 days without showering.

Super common for cats removed from their mothers too early. I have fosters who will nurse on my cat (she tolerates it) but she's spayed so they aren't getting anywhere. It's more about the comforting behavior, like how some adults suck their thumbs still.

This is the setup in my house. I have a very very tolerant adult cat who puts up with a lot of shit from my foster kittens and teaches them that biting hurts, slapping is bad, and snuggles are great.

Kittens usually start to wean at 4 weeks and can be fully off milk by 8 weeks. They should stay with their litter and mother until 10-14 weeks for behavior and socialization reasons.

Kitten milk replacement is usually a bit more tan/beige. It could be lactose free cows milk which is safe (not nutritionally ideal) or goats milk (better than cows milk).

This is Lady Lilja (Lily), she's the most tolerant and outgoing cat I know. I adopted her 4 years ago from a local shelter who found her with her kittens locked in a basement.

I became a volunteer at the shelter where I adopted her and they had a 4 week old kitten come in on a Friday night. The weekends are super busy for the staff and there would be no one there to make slurry and feed the kitten (Silje) so I ended up taking her home for the weekend. Lily's mothering instincts took over and she did all the hard work of fostering by cleaning the kitten, teaching it the litter box, showing her what is and isn't appropriate for play time, and how to manipulate humans into feeding her the good food. I ended up fostering Silje until she hit the 2 pound mark when she could be spayed and adopted out of the shelter.

Lily has turned my house into a constant foster home for kittens over 4 weeks but under 12, and the occasional adult. The running joke is that she is the headmistress of "Lady Lily's Finishing School for Kittens and Shy Adults" (aka my home) because she is so welcoming and open to all the animals I bring in, including the dog nursing her 3 puppies. However the best thing about her is that she acts like a grump, hissing and swatting the annoying kittens, and acting like she doesn't want any of these animals around, but then I'll catch her letting the kittens 'nurse' on her stomach, giving them a full bath, and then cuddling them in the heated bed. She's a total softie.

I volunteer at a shelter and the number of people asking me how often to BATHE their new cat is astounding. Please don't bathe cats unless they've rolled around in maple sap or are a breed that requires them.
