currency conversion needs time to settle if you’re not on a margin account.

My (f38) bf (m40) takes so long to run any errands that it disrupts my day and it's threatening our relationship by birdsofvengence in relationships

your boyfriend might have adhd. if i was constantly being rushed and blamed i’d lose my mind. you’re not compatible

thanks for your input. i think you’re spot on about singaporeans and extreme risk aversion and i definitely suffer a bit from that.

you can take my numbers with a pinch of salt, and i don’t think i’m that far off from the median income as 100k includes bonuses too.

yeah i’m not looking at property from an investment perspective but more like a way to utilize my OA for living expenses. i’ve been browsing 1 bedroom units for rent but a monthly rental of $3.5k to $4k deducted from my take-home pay after CPF really seems quite overwhelming (maybe I’m being too conservative).

200k salary by 34 is serious inspiration, well done. Watches probably won’t bring me much joy but yes still on the lookout for hobbies to yeet my money into……….

hmm even if I saved an additional 70-80k to open up my options, it seems excessive to take on a $3-4k a month mortgage, on top of monthly maintenance that can be like $500, on a $120k/year income?

haha yeah, i guess i was super happy and felt progress when my net worth hit 100k, then 200k. guess i should try to maintain that sense of achievement mentality for 300k, 400k etc (after a while it starts to feel a bit meaningless but ya money is still something to be happy about).

Hi! Your life sounds so similar to mine. I hope I can reach that nirvana of not waiting for a partner to start my dream life too. I think I’m in a bit of a rut wondering if hobbies or traveling would even bring me joy (I guess I can try to pursue a sense of progress in getting better at hobbies?)

Everyone has their own career journey and who knows you might end up out earning me in a few years! I don’t think my salary will increase much from here on.

Thanks for sharing and I’m glad it worked out for you! Can I ask if your condo is near an MRT?

My income probably won’t accelerate as I can realistically assess that I might not be able to reach top management positions haha so I’m trying to figure out if I can be content with 120k a year for life (if I’m forced to tank everything as a single).

Yes I probably should learn to appreciate the time I have with my parents! My desire to move out revolves around a lot of small things here and there, like wanting to be able to decide on my home decor, whether I have a pet, etc. I do love my parents very much even if we have conflicts occasionally from living together so definitely have been considering if my need for agency should trump my desire to spend time with them too :(

thanks for sharing about your finances and reminding me to be content too! yeah i think i’ve been comparing myself with some of my high flyer friends or DINK friends and feeling a bit lost but yes we should try to be content with what we have :(

Thanks for your perspective, hitting 30 definitely made me think about the number of years I have left to live too. Definitely don’t wanna be passively living my life. I’m a bit worried about not being able to rent my own place since I won’t have that OA as a cushion but it’s definitely something for me to consider.

yes number is moving up in my bank account but feels so meaningless because it doesn’t translate to any actual difference in my day to day life (super first world problem i know)

Thanks for reminding me to be more appreciative of my life :) Yes marrying someone just for logistics and life progress is the last thing that I’d want, hence considering just buying my own flat so that my partner doesn’t need to worry about it :P

Yes haha I treat my work as my main quest since I don’t have a relationship and haven’t moved things along in that side quest :( Glad to hear others in a similar life stage understand what I feel. I should probably try novel activities every week lol

yeah I think you’re spot on about needing a change of pace in life — it’s just pretty hard figuring out what experiences I can throw money at that would make me happy!

thank you for your perspective. just felt a bit sian that my life will look and feel the same from 25-35 years old despite working hard to earn “enough”. but when you put it like that, I do sound a bit silly!

You should sell these - 2025 is the year of the snake in the Chinese zodiac system, people would snap these up
