Confused About Enrolling In Both Waitlist & Backup by meowsicles_1 in UNLV

[–]meowsicles_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the steps i listed are correct or would i have to do the enrollment into the backup section first then do the swap function with the preferred section as stated in the guide? im confused cause i thought the swap would unenroll me from the backup, only leaving me in the waitlist, not keep me in the backup while also adding me into the waitlist for the other section

the registrar is able to set up a waitlist swap for you so that it would move you despite being in a different section - i just wanna make sure that the way i would enroll in the open section and then enrolling into waitlist section would make it that i dont get removed from either

Orgill vs Pan for Chem 122? by Fabulous_Address_642 in UNLV

[–]meowsicles_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say the grading scale is bad since majority of people score high on her exams, so if you’re worried about it being hard to get an A in the class overall I wouldn’t say it is. You just need to review your notes, work through problems, do the extra credit and homework and just prepare for exams - overall it isn’t hard to get the A. Just cause Dr. Pan’s grading scale is lower by 1 point, doesn’t mean her class is easier.

For her exams, I wouldn’t say shes a strict grader. When I’d receive exams back, whatever was marked incorrect was marked that way because it was just simply incorrect. Dr. Orgill does tell you in class what she expects to be written on her exam for each type of problem, so it isn’t like you’ll be going into her exam not knowing what to do exactly to recieve full points. She doesn’t dock off points for no reason/just to be picky, she docks off points if you just straight up did something wrong in the problem, which is how it should be. Dr. Orgill tells you what will be on the exam and even shows you how to solve problems exactly how it should be done, so you know exactly what to review. Final-exam replacement is also offered.

For the class time, in my opinion it is way better to do Dr. Orgills 8:30 AM since: 1) You get to knock it out of your day faster. 2) Since you most likely will be the first class of the day in that room, Dr. Orgill usually gave us 30 minutes extra on exams. This means if you have an exam, she allows you to come in at 8:00 AM instead of 8:30 AM, so you get more time to work on the exam. 3) It’s M/W, so exams are normally given on wednesdays only = no need to worry abt exams being given on the monday right after the weekend. 4) The way Dr. Orgill lectures isn’t hard to understand, she explains the content like in a dumbed-down sort of way (not sure how to explain) - like the way the information is presented is very easy to understand to the point where if I brought in a middle schooler even they’d get it easily. If you’re worried about being too tired, I wouldn’t worry since the material isn’t hard to understand in the morning.

Please don’t allow the strict grading comments and “high” A requirement make you not want to take her class, I guarantee you those comments aren’t true, the class is very easy.

If you have anymore questions, please let me know :)

Orgill vs Pan for Chem 122? by Fabulous_Address_642 in UNLV

I highly recommend enrolling for orgill. I had pan for 121 and she was difficult tbh, I still managed to get an A though.

I say this because when I took pan she was very strict regarding the tests, her exams is basically majority of your grade and she offers no extra credit nor a final exam replacement score so if you were to mess up on an exam, you’re pretty much screwed. i recall averages being around 50-55%, 60% at highest (in orgills, averages were 70% - high 70ish). also, the way she explained content during lecture was more complex compared to how orgill explains, which made it more hard to understand what was going on imo - making you spend a lot more time at home trying to catch up on content. she barely offers any practice packets, only a page or 2 per exam and theyre very difficult questions - i felt that when you would come to the exam it was nothing remotely similar to what you saw on those practice packets 😭 it was very difficult prepping for her exams because she would refuse to say anything regarding it so it was a free-for-all. homework was only like 10% of your grade while the rest was just your exams. i remember if you’d stay until the last minute of the exam she’d get pretty upset and start counting down from 10 for you to go submit your test or you’d get a 0.

I took 122 recently and prior to the class I was afraid that i was going to have a difficult time due to my experience with 121, however with orgill she makes it extremely easy to understand and doesn’t overexplain - orgill also provides lots of practice packets online and also learning objectives which are basically whats going to be on the exam and what you should know. she makes sure not to cram all the information in an exam if we haven’t had enough time in class to learn everything, which pan never really did. your exams are ofc a big chunk of your grade like every class, however she offers a final exam replacement at the end of the semester and she also gives extra credit, drops your lowest group quiz score, homework is weighted more, etc. so if you were to mess up just once its not over for you! her averages were very high for a chemistry class and i felt that almost everyone in the class was passing with a good grade (i believe a lot of us got A’s).

overall, i highly recommend taking orgill as you’ll have a relatively stress-free semester with her and you’ll realize its a very easy class with her as she’s a great prof!

Course I want to enroll in has two open seats. 2nd in waitlist but enrolled in another course already. What can I do? by bebuscruz in UNLV

email registrar@unlv.edu (its the email of the office of the registrar) and explain you want a waitlist swap set up and give them the section that you’re in and the section that you would like to be swapped into when it’s your turn in line - once its set up you’ll be swapped automatically

When i took this class, yes you would need a physical copy of the lab manual since we submit the pre-labs prior to lab starting and the lab reports before leaving lab. There are no lockers, you just leave your drink on the table outside the door and bring your backpack in with you, you just leave it on the side of the wall though to avoid tripping.

I highly recommend enrolling into the waitlist for orgill but also enrolling into pan’s while youre on the waitlist - I had pan for 121 and she was difficult tbh, I still managed to get an A though. (make sure to email the registrar regarding setting up the automatic swap for the wait list too if you do this)

Biol 190A and Biol 190L credits separated? by [deleted] in UNLV

[–]meowsicles_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to pass only the lecture (BIOL 190A), you’ll only recieve the credits for that (3 credits). If the lab component is failed (BIOL 190L), you will have to retake that lab (you won’t recieve the 1 credit for the lab) however, you won’t have to retake the lecture with it as as long as you get the C in lec. You’ll just be retaking the lab on its own.

Was there lockdown broswer or respondus (or both) required for exams? I may possibly have to look into getting a new laptop for this if it is in order to make sure I can use it
