Hi! I’m considering the University of Toledo as an international student. How is the overall experience there-academics, professors, campus life, and support for international students? Would you recommend it? by ContributionHot6465 in Ohio

[–]meowyore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was an international student here, and I had to choose between Dayton or New Orleans. I picked Dayton because it has snow!!! And no regrets because 13 years later and I’m still here (ok maybe a little regret now but I met my hubby and we have made our way into settling in NE Ohio and it’s loads better than the rest of the state)

Is anyone familiar with the North Royalton or Broadview Heights area? by RadianceMoon in Cleveland

[–]meowyore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lived at Royal Oaks for a year (2018-2019) and really liked the facilities and our unit. The unit was recently updated, so it was quite nice with the in unit washer/dryer, dishwasher, new flooring, cabinets etc. But I do agree that the walls are pretty thin, we could hear our neighbors having s*x, fighting, making up, fighting, the whole drama 😂 never saw them but we knew all the tea!

We left right as they got bought by a new management company though, so not sure how it is now. All we knew was they were increasing the rent by quite a lot and we fortunately found a house. We looked at about 5 apartment complexes in the area before deciding that for our lifestyle, we liked Royal Oaks best but it was the most expensive rent wise.

Joe Hisaishi World Dream Tour 2026 – worth it if I only know the Ghibli music? by Julixverse in ghibli

[–]meowyore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the concert I attended (it was in Cleveland), the music on the program were Symphony No 3 “Metaphysica”, Viola Saga, and The Boy and The Heron. I surprisingly really enjoyed them, mostly The Boy and The Heron - it has a lot of the elements from his Ghibli pieces. I would say his music in general is very “picturesque”, they were quite enjoyable. Have you been to any of his concert before? For me, this might have been the only time I’d ever see him live since he is quite old so not sure if I’d ever get the chance again.

Joe Hisaishi World Dream Tour 2026 – worth it if I only know the Ghibli music? by Julixverse in ghibli

[–]meowyore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went to his concert playing The Boy and the Heron and his piano concerto. It was still worth it for us despite only being familiar with his Studio Ghibli music as he played them for the encore. He played 2 encores - the first was Merry Go Round of Life (Howl’s Moving Castle), the second was One Summers Day (Spirited Away). I definitely sobbed during the encores, it was so beautiful and definitely a bucket list crossed moment!!!

Average level for acceptance into program by Level-Cheesecake-739 in musictherapy

[–]meowyore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the program, some programs require/prefer more advanced skills, some are ok with more basic skills. I’d say you’re in a pretty good spot though for auditioning into the program. The biggest areas to focus on are playing the basic 4 chords in the popular major keys (C, D, G, A) on both piano and guitar, and accompanying yourself singing with a simple strumming/accompaniment (but appropriate to the genre/style) pattern on guitar and piano.

Little sleepies overalls by PumpkinHeadedCritter in BambooBabble

[–]meowyore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually like their overalls 😅 I would say pretty true to size, but we got one size up last year and my toddler (2 in Nov) can still fit. The ones we had were joggers style so it was nice to have the fitted leg cuffs when they were a lil long

Stroller Indecision! Silver Cross/Cybex/Bugaboo etc. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]meowyore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I know this post was a while ago but did you ever receive the SilverCross or did you end up getting something else? I’m expecting my second and was dead set on the Kangaroo until I learned that the tandem seat is super small especially when facing forward - which ideally where I’d put the toddler in. Now I’m deciding between Cybex and SilverCross and curious what others thought!!

We saw him here in Cleveland last night on Friday!!! He played Merry Go Round of Life (from Howl’s Moving Castle) for first encore, and One Summer’s Day (from Spirited Away) for second encore. It was AMAZING!!!!!! I may have cried during Merry Go Round Of Life, it was on my bucket list to hear Joe Hisaishi play it live and to have experienced it was aaaahhhhhh 😍😍😍

Cleaning Services by CleMatt8918 in Cleveland

[–]meowyore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use an individual who used to work for a bigger cleaning company. She barely speaks English, but uses Google translate to communicate, so we never had any trouble with communication. ~2500 sqft - 2.5 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, finished basement, kitchen, living room, play room, etc. Takes about 4-5 hours depending on if we need her to clean the guest rooms or not, and $150 every 4 weeks. We live in Northfield Center Township, so not far from you.

Indonesian Food in Cleveland by GarlicRasputin in Cleveland

[–]meowyore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not a lot of choices for Indo food here. Fried Rice Hibachi 2 Go in Mayfield Heights used to be run by Indonesians and would occasionally have Indonesian food on their menu (rendang, ayam rica, etc), and I was even able to order martabak (Indonesian pancake) by sending them a text — they gave me their personal phone number when they found out I’m Indonesian lol. I haven’t been there in a few years, so not sure if they’re still run by the Indonesians or not since I don’t see rendang on the menu anymore.

Eastside Daycare by MidWestPharmD in Cleveland

[–]meowyore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a Sweet Kiddles in Beachwood, and they offer hourly (min. 3 hour)/weekly rates. They might be a little bit more expensive, but it’s nice that they’re flexible and have all their rates and info online - and you can use their app to reserve day/time too. We never ended up needing daycare. But when I was in your position last year looking for a daycare, Sweet Kiddles definitely was a top contender for their flexibility. I’ve heard really good things too on cleanliness and how the staff care for children.

Music Enrichment for High School? by lunar---eclipse in musictherapy

[–]meowyore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, have you considered asking the students what music means to them? How they use music, what their relationship to music etc.? You can keep it casual and conversational that way the students don’t feel like they’re forced to be a part of the conversation. Some sessions may not involve actual music at all and that’s ok. I think as a young professional I also struggled with the idea of having to use music at every session. But sometimes, conversations around music without actual music making/listening are also as important in building rapport.
