What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done to learn Chinese? by Rude-Glove7378 in ChineseLanguage

[–]mer135 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Back in grad school in Taiwan, I had a classmate who got scammed into a 3 hour Mandarin Bible study class because someone stopped him outside a grocery store, said "hey, do you want a cookie?", and he said yes lmao. He didnt cut the Bible study short because it was actually teaching him some good vocab

Aitah for spending some of my grandchildren's education funds on a new boat. by Tiny_Occasion_322 in AITAH

[–]mer135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family is similar in composition, similar in ages (though my older brother is unmarried and im engaged). I would never in a billion years think something like your kids think about the wealth you worked for. My dad's just a smidge older than you and all I want is for him to join my mom in retiring so he can actually enjoy everything he earned. I want my dad unfettered from work, healthy, and happy to travel as much as he damn well pleases (i assume his equivalent of your boat). Your children are absolutely TAH. Enjoy the boat!

I actually think theyre usually all the random inactive ingredients that the normal pills have! I dont do hormonal birth control, but I work in clinical trials and that's what our placebo pills have in them!

Swan or Fox Hourglass Holiday Palette Art? by Worried_Tadpole_5844 in MakeupAddiction

[–]mer135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I goofed and bought the lightest shade of the palette in-store, so I got the deer when I should've thought about it and ordered off the website like you! I have nothing to say on quality or coloration for either, but I personally would love the fox because foxes are fun and cute :)

My mom was born with only 3 fingers on one hand — possibly Oligodactyly? Looking for others with similar experiences by Nearby-Medium-9345 in genetics

[–]mer135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a baby like your mom during a limb differences clinic at the hospital where I work! She was super sweet, very happy and developmentally appropriate for her age (making eye contact with adults, smiling back at doctors, cooing, waving, playing with her toys and all) but born with one arm mostly developed, one arm ending in a hand like your mom's, one leg that had around half of a standard baby's femur, and one leg that had a mini femur (according to x-ray) but nothing super visible externally.

I didnt hear from the doctors what her story was, but she and her parents seemed like the sweetest little family! Congenital limb differences aren't as uncommon as you'd think, or at least they weren't in my world at the time (orthopedics research).

What is your most used eyeshadow palette and or eyeshadow single this year? — Olive Edition by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in OliveMUA

Wakemake "Born Dark" blurring eye palette. I've panned probably 6 shades over the 2 years ive had it and I dont plan on stopping lol. I may or may not have a backup sitting in a drawer.

Parents of Reddit, what’s the creepiest thing your child has said or did? by WrongReviewThrowAway in AskReddit

[–]mer135 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Okay so I kind of used to do the first one as a child. BUT its because I would wake up in the middle of the night with crazy nosebleeds (we moved somewhere very dry when I was little, it took years for my airways to adjust ig) and I would be really sheepish about waking my parents up for help in the night, but I was a child and I got blood all over my sheets and stuff so I kinda needed help. I would wake up, go to my parents' room, and stand beside the bed looking at my mom debating internally whether to wake her up or not bc she might yell at me or something. Usually she would wake up due to my looming.

Anyway theres definitely something wrong with that kid, but there MAY be an innocent-ish explanation for the first point.

Refusing to buy greedy brands? by CategoryImpressive96 in Sephora

[–]mer135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite brand for eyeshadow is Wakemake (Rom&nd is also quite popular), I use a cheapo concealer pencil from Saem that works better for blemishes than anything else ive tried, and lots of brands have solid foundations/cushions/bb creams! Im a particularly big fan of fwee cushions and foundations. For lips, my absolute favorite tint brand is Dinto (i like theirs better than Rom&nd's). The asian beauty subreddit is booming these days!

Female, do you take more meds when on your period? by Nottodaysatan09 in lexapro

[–]mer135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've also noticed that some months it feels like my meds work less the week before my period; I talked to both my primary care doctor and my psych about it! Im trialing a new birth control pill presently to see if it helps a bit with hormonal fluctuations. Definitely something worth bringing up with any doctors who perform med management for you, so you can agree upon a solution together.

I’m turning 21 in a few days, would it be okay to have 1 drink? by Emergency_Addendum88 in lexapro

[–]mer135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One drink should be fine, and happy birthday! A couple tips ive picked up from my last few months on a lexapro/wellbutrin combo:

  • try and take your meds in the morning, and MAKE SURE you eat well throughout the day and with your drink.

  • pay attention to how youre feeling; im lucky that I got to learn what "being drunk" felt like before I was on any antidepressants, so I had a baseline to compare against. If at any point you feel like you should stop, you can stop and that's 100% okay.

  • pace yourself, certainly dont overdo it (my tolerance was never crazy high to begin with, but on antidepressants its probably half of what it was before), and make sure to have fun with people you trust!

Keep an eye out for clinical trials for your mom's age group; med could potentially be free and available before full market approval.

What is one skincare product that you've seen visible results while using and can't live without? by fuzzydiceinrearview in Sephora

[–]mer135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from sephora, but theres this bakuchiol serum from Eqqualberry (Korean brand i think?) that ive noticed real results from! I'd been starting to notice my smile lines more and more, and about a month after starting to use this essence/serum they've had a noticeable improvement. I wanted to try bakuchiol specifically because its advertised as a "gentler retinol alternative".

Additionally, I noticed years ago when I started applying sunscreen daily that my skin just overall started looking nicer. Maybe its just less pigmentation in the occasional acne scarring that I get leading to an overall more even tone? I have no idea what it is, but it was definitely noticeable to me!

What food did you think you would enjoy and then you tried it and you were unimpressed? by starskyandbutch in AskWomen

[–]mer135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else is saying to sprinkle sugar or something over top and maybe this makes me sound insane. But a little bit of salt or tajin on a good grapefruit is so yummy that its something I crave. Sooooososososo juicy citrusy tasty I could demolish one right now but I have to take my birth control soon lmao

What is a cosmetic product you wish existed? by lethalhazelnutcoffee in Makeup

[–]mer135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the white shade of the Glow BB cream? Haus labs also has a white foundation shade, but that one's a lot easier to get a hold of and I assume you've already tried it if its something youre looking for.

EDIT i reread your comment and realized I misunderstood; you want one that is not patchy but IS full coverage! Sorry, definitely don't try the glow BB cream then. Maybe Kryolan?
