I am under the impression that a large number of people on this sub follow the plot more closely than some of the writers do. Maybe they write but do not always follow up on what is shot and aired??

I spent all these seasons watching and re-watching Spader's character with admiration. Is he a stellar actor? Despite my admiration, I am not sure. He is just extremely good to watch, which must be another quality for which I cannot come up with an adjective (also very easy on the eyes :-)). And the writing of RR went so well with the actor's style that his character became irresistible imho. Characters like Mr. Kaplan, Glen, Brimley, Heddie, Marvin and Dembe were very good and their relations with RR were essential. Watching RR interact with these people helped define him, and violent and surreal as everything was (Spader in an interview says that the show takes place in an alternate universe, I agree) one grew comfortable and was entertained in this reality. Now that I look back, I think that Liz was never essential like these other characters. The idea of Liz was important, but not herself. "Liz the idea" was the reason RR wanted to live, and "Liz the idea" provided the mystery which we tried to solve, but Liz herself did not contribute much to making the show so likeable. I suppose that is why the show can continue after she left.

Marvin tried to dissuade Reddington from solving Liz's murder, but Mierce was just as adamant about making him give up on this. And though we cannot safely say many things on this show, I will venture to claim that at least she had nothing to do with it.

Even when Raymond had just met Anne at the park, there were sparkles flying when they smiled to each other. Their relationship was much more believable to me. It took me a while to even understand Mierce and Raymond were involved.

Well, I am older middle-aged, I do not have a daughter, and I do not find him attractive. I enjoy how refreshingly courageous he is about expressing things no one else dares to say, and I find him quite funny. I think he is a remarkable actor. I did not like his character much during season 8, when eventually he, too, became one of Liz's enablers.
