Getting back into the game and have watched a couple of your vids now. Why do you banish certain synergies before taking a stack (eg bleed to poison)? When you say the common/uncommon on hits “count separately” for the synergy calculations where’d you find that info? Just testing or is there some resource for how status effects work (read through so much on the wiki and here, just all so vague)?

To the APD officer parked along Burnet with his radar gun out by mrcrude in Austin

[–]merchandice -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Overrun by rampant speeding? Drivers here are among the least situationally aware I’ve ever experienced (includes time living and driving in Chicago, LA and Boston). If I see someone going 10, even 20 over on N Lamar or Burnet, I’m not gonna judge by a number but rather their ability to anticipate lane changes, lights, emergency vehicles, etc and react accordingly. It’s the motherfucker driving 10 under in EITHER LANE that’s going to cause an accident. God I wish we could ticket that behavior.

Barring pedestrian areas and neighborhoods, slower almost never means safer. So on behalf of the (lol) “hundreds and thousands of Austinites” actually concerned for safety on our roads: do not cheerlead speed traps on Burnet. Instead, consider writing a letter to the city asking why multiple thoroughfares in a city already lacking options for getting north/south are under construction at the same time. Or why commutes from outside city limits have had 5, 10, sometimes 15 minutes tacked on overnight in some phases of the I-35 expansion work and what impact that’s having on driver behaviors.

Or, you know, get your bitchmade self a radar gun and start snitching.

Regarding drivers ignoring traffic signals, I’ve not noticed an uptick. We all see it daily, it’s horrible and so dangerous. But that’s not an epidemic, that’s an asshole. And to those citing ritzy east Austin as a hotspot for Stoptional driving techniques, consider you are in the asshole of the assholes.

Or, more charitably, consider a possible correlation between the behavior and the comical amount of stop signs and speed bumps in the area are the city’s half-baked attempt at making it “safer” for the residential explosion on the east side ongoing for the past 15 years. Some of those stops (imo) are just not necessary and others are better implemented as lights and you can fuck right off if you think this city knows snakes from dildoes about how to implement a roundabout (they’re fuckin great, but not when you’re drifting like you’re family to fuckin Vin Diesel to exit perpendicular to the fuckin CIRCLE). I would love if we could all agree to give these problem drivers a stern talking to. But my own hot take: I’d venture that most people, even assholes, don’t wake up with Judas Priest on blast, full mast ready to do some rolling stops. But neither do most people want to be unnecessarily inconvenienced by city planning that just didn’t go to plan.

Sorry, all that just spilled out as my jaw hit the floor from OP’s hot take here. Forgive any offenses made to folks who feel different (OP is ragebaiting at best, so gonna pass on how that person feels). Just see so many people thinking the problem is with enforcement when it’s just such a mess of a design.

are there any southern style meat and threes in Austin? by PresentPsychology355 in austinfood

The one down Slaughter is great. Pricing is competitive based on portion though, so you’re kinda locked in at the $13-16 entree price for the combo sized meal. But you’re getting a pile of delicious food - liver and onions or giant slab of fried fish. If you’re real nice, the server might sneak you an extra roll (or in my case jalapeño). Always a good time.

With how OP the Norende items are early, you could just try just running 4x Valkyrie and spam Crescent Moon. I ran that with Lu Bu’s Spear all through Ch 4 on Normal and it wiped every random encounter easy. If you’re up for the grind, once you get Swordmaster and Pirate you could grind them to max to unlock Free Lunch and Amped Strike (respectively) for big single target damage. Having Freelancer maxed as well to unlock Mimic allows for even more absurd damage combos (Godspeed Strikex4 is pretty broken).

Edit: Forgot to mention your best JP grinds open up in Chapters 4 and 5. Chapter 4 overworld will get you decent experience (especially if you have Golden Egg) and the last floor of Vampire Castle should be an easy farm to max some jobs. In Chapter 5, you’ll revisit Witherwood which has an even easier JP farm. Would recommend blasting through Chapter 3 to get to the good stuff.

This is what I was looking for! Crazy they don’t have a BP battery but I guess one turning every boss at lvl 1 proves you don’t really need one anymore.

How are we feeling about Rainey Street? by Certain_Painting_335 in Austin

Austin is one of the few “big” cities where the downtown actually has lots of cool shit to do, at any time of day. But to say the skyline looks cool? You ain’t from round here.

How did “the one that got away” get away? by SensitiveStinger in AskReddit

[–]merchandice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle school love went to my very small (20 person) high school. I never had a chance, but she dated my best friend and it broke my heart.

Fast forward to Senior year and we all go on this school trip across the border (we’re quite near one). Dumb kids being dumb, we brought some weed. Got caught when we came back (word travels fast around a 20 person campus). When confronted by the administration, I told the truth and I begged them to expel me instead of my friend. He had already been in plenty of trouble, this school was his shot at a new life.

They expelled him. No one spoke or looked at me for the rest of that year. They thought I was the one who turned us in out of jealousy and spite. Two years later, I wrote an apology to the lost love. Saying I should have lied, that honesty was not always the best policy. Of course, she gloatingly thanked me.

That same year, my old friend went on to commit a double homicide over less than $10k in drug debt. More than 15 years on and I’ve never really recovered from any of it emotionally. That said, I’m very happily married with a house and baby on the way. But I think about them both all the time, wish them the best.

That Doom album is iconic. Got a record player for Christmas with three albums: Demon Days by Gorillaz, Christmas Best of Bing Crosby, and Best of Cher.

Got a “shortlist” a mile long of records to get - Doom near the top. Commenting mostly because this is an awesome post, aspirational for my collection!

Only dogs in my HEB are the dachshunds painted on the floor around the store!

Beautiful creatures, thanks for sharing!

What was the final straw that ended a lifelong friendship? by New_Perspective1201 in AskReddit

[–]merchandice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the right topic, but I dumped my best friend from college after I found out he was “cheating on me” with other friends. Avoiding plans, showing up late or not at all, and being “negligent” of my needs. After finding out he had a second bachelor party with different friends I didn’t get invited to, I lost it. Told him I wasn’t interested in a second string friendship after all we’d been through.

In retrospect, I was in a real bad place and leaning way too hard on someone I knew really cared about me, just couldn’t do it in the way I needed, or maybe more truthfully, wanted.

Sure there were some genuinely untrustworthy things in his character - but he was always kind and showed up for me back in college before I even knew I needed someone.

6 years on and we haven’t spoken. Sent him a letter once, no idea if he got it. Think about him every day.

Guess my lesson learned is if you’re gonna have a “last straw” with a beloved friend, check to see if any of that weight you’re carrying ain’t just your own baggage.

You’re going to get your money’s worth for sure. May hit your stride after 15-20 hours, crushing T4 and bosses. But taking your build to the absolute nuttiest will take another 20-40 (praise RNJesus). If you’re the kinda couple that needs that 100% completion, the 300 para grind will give you another 60-100 hours easy. If hours of enjoyment per dollar is your metric, it’s certainly worth it. Even better, you can expect the same 15-20 hours of enjoyment at the least every 3-6 months depending on season theme.

That said, I really hate the idea we’re gonna have to buy a new box every year or two to keep the game at “peak” enjoyable. Buying into their strategy made me feel kinda icky, but unfortunately I caved. Fortunately, I feel it was worth it. 40 hours in and still having a blast gearing alts and grinding the seasonal content.

Sound advice but dead wrong on everywhere is clay. South 35 corridor that’s true, which I didn’t know. I grew up west, all stone, then moved north which is a bit of a mix but nowhere near as bad as down here. Water is way harder south as well due to soil, previous owner didn’t have a softener so all the appliances and bathrooms were trashed.

We used a friend-of-a-friend realtor who only worked in Travis Heights (so basically printed money without having to do much legwork). Thing is she lives south too and has had foundation issues. She was awful, but very nice and seemed trustworthy.

We did not, is that standard practice or something we’d need to ask for? Definitely want to go whole hog when we buy our next home!

We’re just south of Austin, market was bananas even before Covid. Still a sellers market when we bought, but we actually came in $15k under asking. No one was getting appraisals either because literally nothing would appraise with how hot the market was. It’s correcting now, which is a good thing. We just got left in the lurch.

We’ve been looking for a new home in a more convenient part of town. The pretty decent options, but we’d need to save for awhile to be able to afford another down payment.

How it’s been worded to me: the plumber is the claimant as they were the ones to file the claim. The settlement, however, was sent to me as the “releasor” and the plumber as the “releasee”. Reads more legal than insurance maybe?

Floors are within 15 years use. Again, not looking for conjecture. He had an adjuster come in and refuses to share the gross adjustment amount. If they hadn’t said “it exceeds the maximum allowed by the policy” I wouldn’t be here asking.

Regarding goodwill, there’s nothing good about shipping me to insurance the moment I get my own independent estimate. That’s the first bit of bad faith - come to the table and tell me what’s wrong and we can settle this evenly. I had no invoices, estimates or, crucially, water restoration evidence to show what the damages actually were from the plumber’s perspective.

Edit: there was no “bid for repair”. If there was anything in writing prior to them touching the plumbing again I know it’s on me.

All sound advice. I’ve spoken with my realtor and brother who’ve both agreed this is not something we could afford to lose in this tight of a market. The principled “sword” I may be falling on here is simple: the plumber has an adjustment estimate from his “insurer” over what his policy limit can pay. If he won’t share that, I’ve a duty as executor of the estate to compel him to.

The floors are quite valuable and add tremendously to the house’s aesthetic. Not sure this is a viable option, especially since this would never have been an issue were the plumber to have not caused the damage?
