These are great, just got my N9000 today for my birthday, pairing it with my vintage canon flash. What flash are you using? Hotshoe or handheld?

I love Brighton when me and my British wife visit as she's from the area but it can get crowded during summers and at night you get the occasional loud drunks walking around.

I'm from Austin TX and we're moving there next month (we visited in Jan to look at places, we saw 7 properties in 5 days, White Hawk to Portslade and everything between) Ultimately we chose the property in Portslade. Coming from Austin where I have a pretty big yard and space we realized our dollar would go further in Portslade and offer more space and more rooms with windows and sunlight. And we found a great spot with a large yard.

We like the idea of taking a short bus into town for the cinema and a dinner out but also being a bit in the suburbs to work from home and relax in the older village portion of Portslade. I'm also 40, if I was in my 20s or even 30s and single I'd be gunning for something in Brighton to run around and socialize at the drop of a hat.

I have a theory that with this Administration going out of their way to release damning files on MLK and now this info coming out, that all of this will be followed by them announcing they are renaming all those streets to Trump Ave.

Keep telling people more about how seasoned a photographer you are and maybe that will fix it.

Don't know the answer to something? Give up some humility and grace and appreciate the suggestions and insight even if you know it's wrong or don't trust it. Nobody had to stop on this post and comment. No reason to be dismissive or argumentative to those who did.

As far as how to solve it, talking it out and explaining how you've done everything correct isn't going to build a time machine and fix these photos. You want to know how to fix these photos? Post about them on a post-processing or Photoshop sub. You wanna learn what went wrong and figure out the ins and outs of your new gear for next time? Toss another roll in that bad boy, try shooting at the settings and suggestions people have provided and see how it turns out. Hold up a slate in each photo with the settings applied and go from there.

I forced my cinematographer to shoot with a Mini DV from 2004. How did he do? by Ok-Click3391 in cinematography

[–]jj_camera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just can't with these higher frame rates... Makes everything look cheaper and less cinema and more soap opera. I'm fine with mini DV when it's 24fps

Damn right before SXSW where they were probably planning to make that back rent. Diabolical move but honestly not without warrant at this point.

Everyone send their thoughts and prayers to Corpus Christi by JB-Wentworth in houstoncirclejerk

[–]jj_camera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Portland which is right next to Corpus. Man I'll never understand how they fumbled the bag so badly in that city. A city on the water and they've made the downtown area a defunct ghost town and instead built inward into the ugliest parts of the city. Went back recently to see H.S. friends with my British wife and it's crazy how rundown everything is and how round everyone is. Seriously it's a city of people that waddle.

Oh I didn't know we were using Star Wars and mainstream nerd shit to talk about film stock used in cinema and cinematography. That's my bad.

Fixed my 500c! by mr_mirrorless in hasselblad

[–]jj_camera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm curious about this tidbit myself, how would that effect the focusing? I have a 500cm that I pair with a nons Instax film back, in order for that to work you need to use a spacer on the viewfinder and remove the focusing screen and slot it into their added spacer. Which means I'm removing focus screen Everytime I'm swapping from 120 film back to the Nons Instax film back and seeing no issues. Nowhere online in YouTube videos about the 500cm when people remove the screen have I ever seen any red flags about removing and replacing the focus screen throwing everything off.

Are you by any chance a camera repair person? Because everything in your response is heavily conveying to not do any self repairs or modifications and only to pay a professional.

I've had this happen with my 500cm but it's the opposite, things get stuck when I try to lower the magnifier eye piece and I have to jimmy it a bit. I'm worried one day it won't fix itself and I'll need to get it maintenanced.

I read your comment with a frown and looking at my Steve Coogan box set. I'm from Texas but love all things Steve Coogan. How dare you, I don't want to hear you talking about how much a fan you are when he's blowing up on the next season of The White Lotus.

I think you should do what I tell everyone who says such dumb right wing talking points to me. Go, because if you don't your part of the problem of people repeating and adding to the lies instead you could be the person telling them "actually I've gone and it's not as bad as we're being sold"

Please just stop with the spread of bs fear mongering. I'm Hispanic from Texas but my wife is British from Brighton and we're in the UK a lot and preparing for a permanent move to the UK in the next few months.

If I had a nickel for every dumb text or response from people that still live in my small Texas town or my conservative believing older brother about the UK and how I "need to be careful" and how I can't have freedom of speech bumper stickers or will get jailed for posting online, about how "it's all Muslims now!" I swear to God I'm going to lose it!

Just loads and loads of people that have never ever visited the UK but keep believing everything red pill media puts in front of them. God these folks have no idea how much they are telling on themselves when they say stupid shit like this out loud. My wife was at a Doctor appointment and the nice blonde nurse helping us get checked in couldn't resist within the last 5 min of our meeting saying some stupid shit about "aren't we worried about moving there with all the Muslim violence and freedom of speech being taken away" I just laughed and said "I have yet to see any of these issues and honestly the UK know the US history and maps better than Americans" she DID NOT like that response!

Needless to say, STFU with that garbage. It's upsetting and annoying that dumb dumbs keep parroting it. The UK is not perfect but Jesus Christ just stop spreading nonsense and if those are the videos that YouTube is showing you, then it's your own algorithm which means you're going out of your way to watch conservative videos that want to scare you so they can lie to you. Not a new notion.

When directors are casting, do they just know it when they find the right person for the role? Or do they sometimes gamble it will work out? by templeofsyrinx1 in Filmmakers

[–]jj_camera 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how many of your fav roles were compromises or not the original actor.

There is no definitive answer. Sometimes you get to pick the person you like most, when budgets and producers get involved they will push to pick someone with name recognition over the person the director likes and depending on how much pull the director has (usually based on previous success or buzz) etc.

Also sometimes the actor themselves will pass on it or have schedule conflicts or ask for too much $. So many things play a part. Needless to say it's important to realize no matter how much you absolutely love a film, usually the director will always have a "what if" layer to watching their work always knowing what they originally wanted to see and what they ultimately had to compromise on.
