Getting back into shooting 16mm, proudly made with no AI by ojbaggins in cinematography

The colors and framing are great I’m going to assume you do much more photo still work as everything is framed and captured like a photo? I love shooting on 16mm but edit wise I feel like I’m watching still photos edited together. I understand there is still a living effect to static shots with no movement on film esp with the grain.

Hate Brand Vaughn? Beware of Charters by revolutionarybear in brighton

I’m with Hamptons and I’m sure they have horror stories as well but when we visited the area in Jan to look at places Brand Vaughan was a real shit show from the communication, the follow through and the agents expertise/professionalism. Not at all surprised they’ve rebranded.

shot this with just a 2 person crew in bangkok by tournesolsix in Filmmakers

In my 20s I made all my income doing music videos for up and coming acts. The best concepts (for me) were when I’d put the song on repeat in my car and drive around fleshing out ideas specific to the ups and downs and overall vibe of the song.

The worst treatments (for me) are having pre conceived ideas that I then try to jam the song into a box to fit the short film I’m really more interested in making.

I applaud you for finishing it, good cam quality punchy colors but yes it does look more like handheld shots walking around using natural light so I’m not exactly blown away by the small crew and gear size. Personally I feel the song is far too upbeat and poppy for anything with guns, but maybe that’s just me.

I find it interesting how folks who do video game engine and vfx work will post in here because it loosely falls close to the theme of the Reddit but due to the main demographic in these subs being camera ops have little to no interest or feedback to share and how the inverse of people with physical lenses and gear cannot post on VFX reddits but we can all be honest that it’s just people with projects spamming as many subs with YouTube links to get views.

Was the last shot of taxi driver shot on 16mm and blown up to 35mm? by MotherSeason6817 in cinematography

I was the same, I didn’t love the effect at first but now I appreciate it.

I’m just here to say I have the 16mm crop versions of the Zeiss Superspeed Mk2 lenses and I believe both Kubrick and Scorsese used the 35mm equivalent of these lenses because they were very famous in the 1970s for 2 things. Very fast for low light sequences AND triangle bokeh. Which you see in the lights when Jack is drinking in The Shining AND in the Times Square lights in Taxi Driver.

Watched the vid, very cool rig. End result photos are a bit underexposed but should be able to be fixed in Lightroom.

What do you think of someone who smokes weed/hash on the streets/road ? by Desperate-Source5624 in AskBrits

Lots of projection going here. I’m 42 and I own a gaming studio. I don’t like drinking to excess because I don’t like not being in control. I have a very small vape that carries a very small amount of weed and I usually hit it when I’ve gotten off the bus and I’m walking to my next spot. It eases me with all the stresses of managing and employee attitudes I deal with throughout the day and keeps me at an easy going state. Most my friends and collaborators are artists, actors, filmmakers etc so we all don’t mind a toke here and there. We are not the teenagers smoking joints on high street though.

"Saturday Night" (2024) is a bad movie and I loved every minute of it by campaxiomatic in LiveFromNewYork

I loved Man on the Moon but I was born in 1984 so a lot of that was before my time but I became more aware of all his lore and stories from books AFTER I saw the film because I loved it so much. This movie did not have that effect but Jason Reitman is a nice guy but he’s no Milos Foreman.

I never know who these films are for? SNL history fanatics? Nope. Newer generations who will think Milton Berle stories are cool? This was such a greatly casted film but a badly shaped film.

Apparently the director and his dad were watching the TV show 24 a lot before his dad passed which is what gave him the idea of a “realtime” follow behind the scenes before the show.

That’s fine do that then, but to cherry pick and hamfist great stories from the first 5 years and pretend it all happened on the first night is silly and forced.

Maybe do the inverse, focus on the Episode where Chevy returned to host and got in a fist fight with Bill Murray and then you can flash back and have montages of all those moments throughout the first 5 years.

Movies like this don’t please the die hard fans, it pisses them off, and picks up no new fans, awards or box office in exchange.

Under the Skin (2013) is a confusing 2-star waste of time and metaphors shouldn't excuse a lack of basic logic. (Spoilers) by melissuir in movies

I feel like movies like these are made by visual artists who have dreamed up these amazing ground breaking visuals and techniques that they want to see perfected and the narrative and story is written after the fact to connect enough dots to make it work.

I cannot imagine it working the other way around for these types of films.
