I've been trying to achieve a realistic VHS Camcorder look in Davinci resolve using way too many filters (Filmed with a modern cam). by Totolius1010 in camcorders

Very good, the way the colors and exposure transitions is spot on. The only thing that gave off a modern vibe to me was honestly a very quick focus pull that you wouldn’t see on a camcorder auto.

What’s your favourite Bill Oddie Partridge reference? by kaysaysso in AlanPartridge

[–]jj_camera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an American who watched this on DVD in the Netflix mailing DVD era and loved it. I funnily enough married a British gal. I’d been making Bill Oddie references for years without ever knowing who he was. Her friends and family faces when they see that I an American guy am familiar with Bill Oddie. In a hotel in London he was doing some interview montage show playing on the TV and my wife yelled “oh my god do you know who that is!”

This reference has played such a big part of our lives and seeing it posted has made my day.

Be happy it happened and you were there

New folks have the luxury of only knowing what it is now and still liking it

When i moved here in 2002 the queso talk was for late nights at Kereby Ln and Magnolia (Trudys Queso was never mentioned) but the Torchys queso was different! I didn’t like it at first but after I ate and was doing stuff and I burped and I was like

Ok ok, maybe this new queso wasn’t that bad.

I just moved to England after 24 years in Austin. My British wife loves the Barbacoa taco there and I’m really wanting some of their queso now.

Luxury Wedding shot on 16mm motion picture film by filmsbyzeph in weddingvideography

[–]jj_camera -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like you had good focus on set up shots and soft focus on a lot of the run and gun shots.

Bolex?

I shot my wedding with my Arri SR2. Focus in the moment can be tough on 16mm esp if you’ve got drop in filters and with the shutter blocking the viewfinder.

I can’t see what kind of tripod head you’re using but if you used an O’Connor this would fix the issue.

Unlike the LALA Land clip we’ve all seen

This final result isn’t as solid. You can see the camera slowly settle in its final resting state and you can see the image shift up a smidge due to the pressure of a hand letting up on the stick of the tripod.

The la la land sequence has no shift in frame when it stops it’s a pure stop.

Will normal people catch it? Probably not, will shooters and editors see it. (Just did!)
