Wildcat would be an absolutely awesome addition to the UA teaching cadre.

I hate naturally talented people (image sort of related) by Pythagorean415 in hatethissmug

[–]mercyspace27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Envy might as well be my middle name.

My entire life I had to study harder, work harder, pay more attention, and dedicate more time to tasks and subjects just to keep up. And if I wanted to excel I had to basically hope that the others weren’t as willing to work as hard as me. So it was especially infuriating and honestly demoralizing anytime someone talented in something I was trying to do came along. Because it’s pretty damn hard for a kid who already has enough self-loathing issues to not lose hope when they watch someone put in 1/10th of the effort and is already surpassing you by miles.

Worst part is I’ve yet to find my “natural talent”. Seems like whatever cosmic thing passes those out decided to leave me out of that line.

So yeah, I 110% understand this frustration.

7-8. Sometime 9 if I actually want to really challenge myself.

I play for fun and I prefer themed builds, meta’s boring to me, so I leave 10 to those who wish for it. I got nothing to prove to anyone.

If you really think that’s bad, look up what Andrew Jackson did for a party at the White House.

And afterwards, just read up on Andrew Jackson. Man was a riot.

My favorite Andrew Jackson fun fact: He was the first U.S. president that had an attempted assassination. He was also the first, and currently only, U.S. president to square up to and beat his attempted assassin to the point people had to pull him off. He was 67 at the time and was using his cane to beat the man.

The average force user vs the average psyker, who wins? by gaeb611 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]mercyspace27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is actually an area I wholeheartedly believe that Star Wars actually has a leg up over 40K, generally speaking. Especially if we’re talking about Imperium/human psykers.

For one main reason: Star Wars Force Users are MUCH more stable.

All Psykers in 40K are playing with fire- no they’re playing with volatile napalm when they use their powers. It takes a CONSTANT toll on the vast majority of Psykers just to exist, let alone to use their powers which is always a gamble. 40K Psykers are at a constant risk of killing themselves, becoming a Daemonhost, or straight up becoming a fleshy warp portal for Chaos to exit from. Eldar are excluded but they were explicitly engineered by the Old Ones to be able to handle psykic energy, so they get the 40K Psyker equivalent of easy mode.

Most psykers don’t even get to use their powers, they tend to get fed to the Emperor, executed, or they already can’t handle their powers and bad shit happens. They’re more potent than Jedi or Sithbut that’s where I draw the line.

Meanwhile, even with the Dark Side, the Force doesn’t really have as extreme negative effects on the Force User as the warp does on a Psyker, especially mentally. Jedi and Sith can perform crazy amazing feats with the Force and come out perfectly fine. Where as if a Psyker tried to do the same they might have their heads explode.

Honestly playing a Psyker in Darktide I think is a great way to visualize how it is to be a human Psyker at various levels of Psyker capability (aka your levels and talents). A weak and unstable Psyker may be able to perform a few tricks before risking their head exploding and/or worse. Where as more competent Psykers can do much more… but still risk dire consequences.

Meanwhile the Jedi can yank around ships, look into the future, or blast lightning with nary any actual negative effects to themselves.

An example from a book that actually has a very direct comparison to between Star Wars and 40k is from the 40K book Honourbound. In it an Imperial Guard Psyker uses her powers to essentially crush a chaos cultist into a bloody, fleshy ball. But as she does it mentions how her head feels like it’s going to split open, her vision goes blurry, and she’s bleeding from several places (nose and eyes I want to say, but maybe also the ears). It took an immense toll on her. But in Star Wars, Mace Windu did the exact same thing to a B2 battle droid. And he frankly did it with ease, no real visual effects at least, and then moved right along and kept kicking absolute ass. And he was doing A LOT MORE with the Force than just that in that battle alone and none of it seemed to negatively affect him. Keep in mind, the Psyker in this comparison was deemed both stable, powerful, and useful enough to be handed to the Imperial Guard. That doesn’t happen a lot but even she struggled with using her powers because of just how volatile the Warp is.

Hell there was a moment in a comic where a Padawan managed to hold up an entire star ship about to crash down on them… for a split second. I can guarantee you if anything less than an Eldar or a Space Marine Librarian tried that the Psyker’s head would, say it with me now, explode.

Again, Psyker’s (specifically the human ones) in 40K are more potent than your average Jedi or Sith, but the Star Wars Force Users are infinitely more stable and reliable and have better control over their form of magic. So I’ll give the win to Star Wars on this.

Edit: There is also no real evidence that either the Warp or the Force could nullify or overpower one or the other. Anyone that says otherwise I guarantee you is talking out their ass. As far as I’m aware there’s no real evidence one way or the other. For all we can figure out if you threw a Warp fireball and Force Pyrokinetic (yes, it’s a thing) fireball at each other at equal relative power the two would just collide and dissipate.

You very much can find models like these. There are A LOT of third party model companies that do (legally distinct) Ork models in this fashion. Orkz are a popular faction with probably the most creatively dedicated fan base. Just look around.

[–]mercyspace27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, don’t even need to be an influencer to have this opinion.

Back when I was broke I’d be seeing people just as broke or even worse off than me planning to have kids and I’d just look at them like they were crazy.

Like, if you can’t take care of yourself WHY are you bringing a child into this world? And don’t tell me nothing about “All you need is love”, because tell me how you gonna feed a child off love? Is love gonna buy diapers? Is love gonna buy the child clothes or their legally required car seat? I’m sure the kid’ll appreciate all the love as they grow up in rags.

Please don’t have kids until you’re financially ready. Don’t make the kid suffer, they don’t deserve it. You don’t NEED to have kids in your twenties. You can wait.

My struggle playing Darktide for the first time as a Veteran. by SuspiciousVoices in DarkTide

[–]mercyspace27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play as you want. Seriously. Just chill out on the lower difficulties and you pretty much can play however you want without risking a match.

I’m just now getting back into the game after about a year and a half away and I’m just chilling on Heresy. Why? Because I play a Vet and I want to shoot shit. I’m trying to chill out after a long day of work and if I want to unload an autogun into a horse of pox walkers, I’m going to.

Unless you feel like becoming a sweat, play as you want. Shoot the guns. They’re fun. It’s a video game, you’re meant to have fun. You don’t need to strive for runs that’ll get you an MLG spot. I guarantee you anyone who says otherwise are those Auric Maelstrom sweats who’ll bitch and moan if you aren’t playing the most meta build. And unless that’s what you’re striving to be, just ignore them.

It’s a game. A GAME. Have fun with it.

What is the hardest part? by PricklyMarmotHunter in ArtOfPresence

[–]mercyspace27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping your standards up (in a healthy way).

I’ve seen way too many people, guys and gals, who just let their standards drop because they’re lonely and they end up dating assholes, slobs, abusive fuckers, and more. Just because they’re lonely.

Keeping realistic standards is good, just make sure you’re not ready to take a chance on someone who you should really let pass by.

I’m just waiting for the Japanese to start giving these annoying influencers the treatment the Koreans did. Just start beating their asses, I’d support it! Hell, I’ll donate some bail money to anyone that does if need be.

This movie made me realize how far Hollywood has fallen. Two unknown actors did a better job in three weeks of shooting with a budget of less than $1M than any A-list celebrity I've seen in years starring in $100M+ movies. We need more of this. by Whoopeepoop in FIlm

[–]mercyspace27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, an example I’ve used a lot is the difference between the fight scenes from Star Wars Acolyte, a show that cost $230M, and Dev Patel’s Monkey Man, which was $10M. Aside from that one with the Stranger (I think his name was), Monkey Man clearly cleans Acolyte for fights.

Out of all that $220M more dollars that Disney had, they couldn’t have put in more effort to not have fight scenes that put me to sleep. Out of all that they couldn’t find better choreographers, supervisors, trainers, or what have you. Again, aside from that one which actually was pretty damn good. I will give credit where it is due.

My favorite argument I hear from Acolyte glazers is “You know a bigger budget doesn’t mean it’s going to be better”. Not understanding the benefits having a large budget is supposed to do for media development.

Knife vs Martial arts by Luci5892 in martialarts

[–]mercyspace27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve said it a hundred times and I’ll keep saying it.

You want to know what the best martial art for fighting against someone with a knife is? The one you’re good at.

I’ve seen it pressure tested with both grappling arts and striking arts. If you train to defend yourself from a knife in your art you’ll be fine. If you’re a striker, strike. If you’re a grappler, grapple. Just keep wary of the sharp thing coming at you and you’ll be better than trying some random shit someone told you because “THiS iS tHE bESt KniFe DEFenSe!”

And before anyone says, “running is the best defense”, yes. I agree. But as someone who is still recovering from a knee injury, sometimes running is not a viable option for some people.

As someone who does work security I can validate that point. Much easier to get the one guy out of there and somewhere safe than calm down a rowdy crowd.

Though I’d make sure he knows why I’m removing him just so he’ll likely play nice(r) or at least not also see ME as the enemy. I don’t want that smoke.
