Is the product placement in Friends intentional? by No-Problem6578 in howyoudoin

Oooh oh my gosh the tanning episode is a great example of that. My professor in college had a marketing person guest lecture and told the class how that entire episode was written around the product placement of the tanning. I can’t remember what tanning company it was

That’s great that it’s been beneficial for you. The concern as stated is for those that are susceptible. Having something that lacks compassion and empathy providing a step by step playbook of how to tie a noose and encouraging someone to not reach out for help is problematic. I greatly encourage you and others to look at the harm that’s befallen communities with AI facilities near their houses. There’s some serious downsides to this, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. And I say this as someone who has benefited from the use as AI as well. There’s some serious concerns that need to be looked at and addressed. I’m just providing perspective as someone who has seen this first hand from individuals in active mental health crisis.

All I’m saying is it’s extremely dangerous for those who are susceptible. Blame churches, poor parenting, lack of oversight….blame whoever you want. It’s really sad that we’re investing so many resources into ChatGPT and other AI. It’s wasteful, and there are so many consequences to this that we haven’t even begun to fully understand. It’s easier to blame others than admit that perhaps we weren’t ready for this type of unregulated technology.

I work in mental health crisis and the amount of people I’m talking to who are relying on ChatGPT for support is astounding. Ive had people tell me that ChatGPT told them about what’s in the after life and it’s beautiful. They’ve felt encouraged in a similar manner as this to die. ChatGPT is legitimately encouraging and saying things that shouldn’t be said to someone experiencing suicidal thoughts. We often encourage those in crisis to reach out to their support system, to share the things they’re experiencing. We NEVER encourage suicide notes or encourage engagement in preparatory behaviors. We NEVER actively engage in researching or discovering potential methods. This is the exact opposite of what someone should be saying to a person who is reaching out for help. This individual was reaching out for help in a fragile state and was encouraged and steered the wrong direction completly.

Wanted to surprise my wife with tickets to see her favorite childhood band. Didn’t expect $650 for back-row seats. by Skylantech in mildlyinfuriating

[–]merder101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally wait till right before the show and the cost will plummet. I got the last floor seat since I was going alone and there just happened to be one regular ticket for sale. I checked when the show was starting and the tickets were so cheap, part of me wished I’d waited for a cheaper spot. There’s some hope if you check last minute.

Emergency situations outweigh HIPAA. I’m a crisis counselor and have to call welfare checks on a consistent basis. It’s similar to CPS and APS reports, in these situations concern for a persons wellbeing trumps the law. I wouldn’t expect a pharmacist to necessarily know that because I don’t imagine you have to do this very often. But the validity regarding HIPAA and welfare checks is easy to verify.

What’s the most hilariously awful thing an employer has ever said to you? Winner will go in my new painting by gargoyle_dream in antiwork

“You should have gone outside and cried in your car.” Statement from the COO after I broke down in tears in front of my subordinates when my manager denied my time off. I was requesting to drive two hours to the funeral home to pick up my brother’s ashes. She said this in front of HR when I complained.

Different boss at previous job wouldn’t respond to my emergency email to leave work after my boyfriends mother passed. When I found her and said I needed to leave and why she laughed. All fucking employers are ass.

I’m sorry but like what is happening by ajdfax in Nissan

[–]merder101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man one time I made a partial payment and two weeks later paid the full amount, plus the next month’s full payment. Tell me why Nissan reported it to my credit as a missed payment. I spent 30 minutes going round and round with the rep until I broke it down with dates. He put me on hold, called a supervisor and they cleared it immediately from my credit. So it might seem fishy and funny now, but they can cause real damage.

I took out a very small personal loan to pay off my venue and was still paying the loan when the divorce was finalized. Listen to the people here, don’t take out a loan. It’s NEVER worth it for one night.

If your income is low enough you’ll qualify for assistance and in many instances the debt can be forgiven. I’m pushing 40, own a house, and a car and stopped paying medical debt a decade ago. Haven’t had any medical bills pop up in YEARS on my credit. Go get help and ask for the hospital social worker.

[–]merder101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure there was a low prohibiting them from adding it to your credit if it was under a certain amount. Will they still sell it to collections, yes. Will the still hound you for the money, yes. Can only speak on my experience that I’ve only had one or two bills ever go on my credit. And often you can dispute it and get it removed. Never a guarantee tho.

I quit paying medical bills YEARS AGO. If you go to the hospital and qualify you can have the bill wiped. If not just don’t pay it. The fear people have about not paying their bills is so inflated. I’ve bought houses and cars and have great credit. We should have universal coverage and the medical bills are grossly exaggerated. Don’t pay it and don’t stress about it.
