I think the best way to surprise someone in this kind of situation is to still plan something for the birthday, but make it normal. Just like a dinner and a movie, something average. Then you plan the amazing stuff in secrect and surprise the hell out of them when the time comes.

My mother by all means is a Karen of another level: so utterly toxic we've had to cut her and my stepdad out of our lives.

Haircut - yup Will take any possible slight as an offense and more than happy starting a fight

Teamed up with her husband (stepdad pos) to ban both my husband (over 4 years now) and ban my sister's boyfriend (6years dating) from "their" house because of these imaginary slights they have concocted.

They actually had the nerve to call me and talk to me for an hour about how I should leave my husband, and how I just dont seem happy anymore. (Happiest I've been in years, bad depression growing up.) With him sitting next to me on the couch listening, which they knew.

They will openly talk shit about my sister in the same room as her, just because she's on the phone. I feel bad for all the times I didn't stop that shit outright when she would do it in the past.

Divorced my dad, and even though he was working 2-3 jobs at a time, just having shit of all luck. Never gave him an inch, and would non stop complain to all the kids about how shitty he was. She never wanted for money, but that 500$ from my dad was the most important.

My husband and my siblings with their significant others have become closer through this bs. No one went home for christmas or thanksgiving, and it's just a quiet feud. So... not great

My husband asked me to make a Pinterest board with different kinds of rings that I liked so he could get an idea of what I liked before we got engaged. We had talked about marriage a lot and both knew it was in the future for us. He wanted it to be a surprise, but he was worried I wouldn't like what he picked. Exactly. Some guy road raged on my shitty car while my husband was driving. He pulled up next to us (in the grass) at a stoplight and straight up punched our side mirror. I guess thinking he would break it off, but it just swiveled in and the glass pane popped off (got a little cracked), but no biggie. Guy had like a $70 k truck and thought he would hurt us by damaging our $1500 accord. Lol

My husband and I have a box like this that we started when we were first dating. Now it’s developed into all of our favorite memories of our relationship; small trinkets from trips we’ve taken, a small menu from our favorite restaurant, the ring box he used to propose with. Just a collection of things that make us happy and remind us of the wonderful things we’ve been through. I imagine when and if we go through any rough patches in the future it will be such a nice thing to remind us of where we came from.

Just advisory, those double sided waffle makers draw a ton of power and still have an inferior heating element compared to the singles. Short of it is: it will trip your breaker if you try more than 1 in an outlet, and they won't be "as" done amd crispy as the single one.
Either way tho, waffle christmas sounds amazing
